    Gertrude Lillian Lowry
    After a lengthy illness of Alzheimers disease, Gertrude Lillian Lowry of RR 3 Almonte, died on March 27 in Almonte General Hospital, She was in her 68th year. Born in Almonte, she was the daughter of the late John Gilmour and his wife Christena Lawson. She attended school at SS no 5, Ramsay. In 1939 she married S. George Lowry and moved to Highway 29 to farm with her husband who survives her. She is also survived by a son Edwin (and his wife Marian) of Almonte and daughters Shirley Eastman of Toronto, Marilyn (Mrs Brian Kealy) and Lois (Mrs Dave Drummond) of Almonte and Irene (Mrs Mervyn Hilliard) of Carleton Place and 11 grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Mary (Mrs Arnold Leishman) of Almonte and brother Murray Gilmour of Dauphin, Manitoba. She was predeceased by brothers Wilfred, Allan and Charles. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held from the Gamble & Comba funeral home to the Almonte Presbyterian church on Tuesday, March 29, with Rev E. Smith officiating assisted by Rev R. Hill. Interment took place at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Lowry, Donald Lowry, Wes Knox, Thomson Clarke, Stewart Drummond and Boy Jamieson. Honourary pallbearers were Borden Hilliard, Ernie Giles, Gordon McCoy, Bill Stewart, Alex Bowes and Dennis Sirman.

    John Gilmour
    A well-known and highly regarded citizen of Almonte passed away at his residence, King Street, Friday evening, Feb 27, in the person of Mr John Gilmour in his 76th year. He had been in failing health for several months as a result of a heart ailment. Born on the 8th line of Ramsay Township, he was a son of the late Allan Gilmour and his wife, Mary Black. In March 1898 he married Miss Christena Lawson of Cedar Hill who survives. Practically all of Mr Gilmour's life was spent in Ramsay Township and in Almonte. Deceased was a member of L.O.L. No 378 Almonte; a member of St John's Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Management of that church for several years. Left to mourn besides his wife are four sons, Wilfred and Murray Gilmour of Dauphin, Man.; Allan and Charles of Almonte and two daughters, Gertrude, Mrs George Lowry and Mary, Mrs Arnold Leishman of Almonte; one sister Jessie, Mrs William Stanley of Carleton Place, and nine grandchildren. The funeral which was largely attended was held on Monday afternoon from his late residence to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev Alexander Mills of Arnprior, officiated. Among the beautiful floral tributes were a wreath from the Session of the Presbyterian Church and L.O.L. No 378 of Almonte. The pallbearers were six nephews: Messrs Eric Cavanagh, Leonard Stanley, Mack Scott, Morris Gilmour, Arnold Gilmour and John Lawson.

    John married Christena Lawson in 1892. Christena (daughter of Charles Lawson and Jane Smith) was born on 7 Apr 1876 in Fitzroy Township, Carleton County, Ontario, Canada; died on 31 Oct 1966 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in 1966 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Mrs John Gilmour
    Almonte lost one of its older citizens on Monday, October 31st, when Christena Lawson, beloved wife of the late John Gilmour, passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Arnold Leishman. Mrs Gilmour was born in Fitzroy Township, April 7th, 1876, a daughter of the late Charles Lawson and his wife Jane Smith. In 1885 she moved with her parents to Cedar Hill, In 1898 she was married to the late John Gilmour, who predeceased her 18 years ago. To this union were born four sons and two daughters, namely: Wilfred and Murray of Dauphin, Man.; Allan and Charles of Almonte; Gertrude, (Mrs George Lowry), and Mary, (Mrs Arnold Leishman). Also left to morn her loss are 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs Gilmour was the last surviving member of a family of ten. She was a life long member of the Almonte Presbyterian Church. The funeral which was largely attended was conducted by Rev Gordon Beaton at the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, on Friday, Nov 4th, at 2 p.m., with interment at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, John Lawson, Murray Reid, Cecil Cavanagh, Weston Knox, Thomson Clarke and Ralph Millett

    Mr. Allan Gilmour
    The death occured in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte, May 6th., of Mr. Allan Gilmour, in his 87th. year. Mr Gilmour was born in Ramsay and lived there all his life. He was a son of the late John Gilmour and his wife Jane Lindsay. He was married in Renfrew in 1870, to Mary Black of Admaston, who died in 1912. To this union were born seven children, namely: John of Almonte: Kate, Mrs.Ben Scott of Renfrew: Jean, Mrs. John McQuarrie of dauphin, Man: William of Carp: Jessie, Mrs. William Stanley of Carleton Place: Amilia predeceased him in 1904 and Oavin in 1931.
    There also survive 31 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the residence of his son John, and was very largely attended by friends and relatives. Internment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services at the home and gravesite were conducted by Rev. A. J. Fowlie of the St. John,s Presbyterian Church. The pallbearers were six grandsons, Maurice Gilmour of fitzroy Harbour; Allan Gilmour of Almonte; Vernon Gilmour of Ottawa; Mack Scott of Renfrew; Lenard Stanley and Charles Johnson of Carleton Place. Many floral tributes were received from friends of the deceased.

    Allan married Mary Black in 1870.     Funeral of Mrs John Forgie
    The funeral of the late Mrs John Forgie took place on Saturday afternoon last, to the eighth line cemetery, and was attended by many friends of former days. Among those from outside points were Messrs H. S. Forgie of Toronto; Mr and Mrs D. Hamilton of Carleton Place; Mr and Mrs Graham Forgie from Maynard, Mass; Mr Wm H. Forgie, Toronto; and Mr Robert Forgie of Winnipeg. These three latter-named sons of deceased with Mr Duncan Forgie of Almonte, another son, were pall-bearers.

    John Gilmour
    One of Almonte's oldest citizens died on Monday when Mr John Gilmour passed away at the age of 83 years. Deceased was born in Ramsay in the early years of the settlement of the township, and with his four brothers and one sister bore their share of the pioneer work. When grown to manhood he married Jane Lindsay, a sister of Mr Gavin Lindsay, who was for some years a resident of Almonte, and to them three children were born, one son Allan, who now lives near Bennie's Corners, and Mrs Allan Naismith and Maggie, both of whom are dead. Mrs Gilmour died about eight or nine years ago. The brothers of deceased were Messrs. William, James, Hugh, Gilmour, and the sister, Mrs Wm Slater, all of whom are now dead but Hugh, who resides in the Cobden neighbourhood. The late Mr Gilmour was a strong, hardy man, and did the most of the work necessary in his large vegetable garden in New England, and did it well, which was a wonderful thing for a man of his years. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the eighth line cemetery, his brother Mr Hugh Gilmour, being among the friends present
