Mr and Mrs. Louis Alexander Duncan and Family

Louis Alexander Duncan was born April 24, 1870 in Elma Township in Ontario. He was the son of James and Joanna (Robertson) Duncan. He worked a number of years in a cheese factory at Forest, Ontario.

In 1902 he moved to Estevan and worked with his brother, Peter in Estevan's first general store. He was also the undertaker in Estevan for a few years. He was town secretary in 1906 and took the census when Estevan was first organized.

L. A. Duncan opened an insurance office in Estevan in 1910, which he ran until his death on October 13, 1949.

He was active in the Presbyterian Church and then the United Church. In public life he was the secretary of the public school Board 1910-1920. From 1920 to 1923 he was secretary and member of both public and high school Boards.

Mr. Duncan was the Justice of the Peace for 35 years. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge, holding local and provincial offices.

Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Duncan had five children.
Bruce was born in 1895 and passed away in 1950.
Clarence was born in 1899 and now lives in Carmel, California.
James was born in 1906 and passed away in 1965.
Isabelle was born in 1909 and passed away in 1978.
Kenneth married Ena Hawken in 1945. They have three children:
Keith who married Judy Jackway. they have a son and daughter and live in Port Alberni, B.C.
Audrey married Stanley Ball. They have two sons, Chad and Jason. They live in Edmonton, AB.
Valerie is married to Charles Hitchen and they live in Calgary, AB.

Louis married Levina Isabelle Walker in 1894. Levina was born in 1871; died on 29 Aug 1938; was buried in Estevan, Estevan Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
