Elderly Carleton Place Man Found Dead by Bank of Mississippi River

    Special to The Journal
Carleton Place, Nov 23, - Samuel Cram, aged 78 years, one of the most respected residents of the town, was found lying dead at the edge of the Mississippi River here this morning, in front of Mayor Smythe's boat house. He had a scalp wound on the back of his head and his body was resting in about 2 1/2 feet of water. From general appearances it is beleived he committed suicide, as he had been almost driven to distraction by neuralgia for the past few days.

About 2 o'clock this morning his wife heard him dress, going outside, and so enlisted the services of some neighbors to help her find him. Mayor David Smythe and Mr. A.S. Stewart inaugurated a search, the search party increasing. About 7:45 a.m. his body was discovered, but life was extinct.

The deceased was retired and had lived in Carleton Place for the past 12 years. In his early days he was a school teacher and taught in Beckwith Township, subsequently taking up agriculture.

He is survived by a wife and two daughters, Mrs. C.T.R. Taylor, og Carleton Place, and Mrs. W.J. McDiarmid, of London, Ont. Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.
