    Mr William Henry Toop
    An aged and esteemed resident of Almonte for more than half a century, died Sunday afternoon at his residence, in the person of William Henry Toop, in his 80th year. He had been in poor health for the past year. Previous to his retirement some time ago he had been engaged in the textile industry. In religion he was a Baptist. Born at March, Wiltshire, Eng., in 1860, he was the son of Fredrick Sidney Toop and his wife Sarah Haynes. Some 60 years ago he came to Canada with his parents and settled in Almonte. Mr Toop was twice married. His first wife, Retta Ringrose, predeceased him in 1914. To this union four daughters and three sons survive, Mrs Ernest Little, Mrs Lester Ford, and Mrs James Guthrie, all of Almonte; Mrs Alex McLeod of Moosejaw, Sask.; Fred Toop of Regina and Harry and Sidney Toop of Brockville. Also surviving are his second wife, the former Miss Tena Fumerton; one son, Arthur; one sister and three brothers, Mrs William Moore, Ramsay; Gus of Almonte; Gordon of Ramsay an Percy Toop of Edmonton, Alta. There are also 15 great grandchildren and 30 grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from his late residence on Euphemia Street, with interment in the Auld Kirk cemetery. Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev W.J. McBurney, of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, conducted the funeral service. The pallbearers were Messrs. Raymond Ford, William Toop, James Guthrie Sr., Alan Ford, Keith Little and Vincent Ford. Included in a profusion of floral tributed was a wreath from the Sons of England. On Monday evening the Sons of England, of which the deceased was a member, conducted a short funeral service. Mr Sidney Lawford acted as president and Mr Samuel Bradley as chaplain.

    William married Christina Fumerton.     Mrs William Toop
    There passed away at her home her Monday morning, a well known citizen in the person of Mrs William Toop, in her 65th year. Daughter of the late Mr and Mrs David Fumerton of Appleton, Ont., Christena Fumerton was married to the late Mr Wm Toop of Almonte who died four years ago. Mr and Mrs Toop had resided in Almonte since their marriage and were members of the Baptist church. There remain to mourn her loss, one son, Corp Arthur Toop, R.C.O.C. stationed at Barriefield Camp; three sisters, Mrs J.R. Tuggey, of Ottawa, Mrs W. Ashman of Pakenham and Mrs E. Coxford of Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Frederick Fumerton of Carleton Place; four step daughters, Mrs Ernest Little, Mrs James Guthrie, Mrs Lester Ford of Almonte and Mrs A. McLeod of Moose Jaw, Sask.; Three stepsons, Mr Sidney and Henry Toop of Brockville and Mr Fred Toop of Regina, Sask. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the funeral parlours of G.L. Comba, Church Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs James Guthrie, Edwin More, Lester Ford, Hubert Syme, Gordon Toop and Frank Honeyborne.

    Frederick Sydney Toop
    One of the oldest residents of Almonte passed away on Saturday, February 12, in the person of Mr Frederick Sydney Toop at the age of 90 years. The late Mr Toop was the son of William Toop and Elizabeth Eyers of Marsh, Wiltshire, England. He was married to Miss Rachel Sarah Haines at Westborough, in Wiltshire, in 1857 and if he had lived they intended celebrating the seventieth anniversary of their marriage on the 1st of July on the occasion of their sixty ninth anniversary they received a letter of congratulation from King George. They have resided in Almonte for 54 years with the exception of a year or two spent in Cornwall, in the home which Mr Toop built in the New England section on Christine street. Mr Toop was sick only a short time and his passing came as a shock to his friends. Besides his widow, who is 87 years old. he leaves to mourn his loss four sons and three daughters, namely William and Augustus of Almonte; Gordon of Ramsay and Percy, of Edmonton Alta; Nellie, Mrs Robt. Lees, of Moose Jaw; Lillie, Mrs Wm Hamilton, of Regina; Minnie, Mrs Wm. More of Ramsay; all of whom were present at the funeral. Arthur died about 23 years ago and two children in infancy He is also survived by 45 grandchildren and 36 great grand children. The funeral on Tuesday, which was largely attended was conducted by his pastor, Rev A.C. Dixon, of the Baptist Church of which deceased was the oldest member, assisted by Rev E.P.H. King, a former minister, now of Arnprior. Rev J.M. Rutherford and Rev J.R. MacCrimmon. Interment was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were his four sons: Messrs William, Augustus, Gordon, Percy and a son-in-law Mr More also Mr Wm Simpson. Mrs Toop will live with her son, Mr Augustus Toop.

    Frederick married Rachel Sarah Haynes in 1857.     Mrs Frederick S. Toop
    Death claimed another well-known and highly respected resident of this district in the person of Mrs Frederick S. Toop, who passed away at the home of her son, Mr William H. Toop, New England, on Tuesday of this week. Deceased whose maiden name was Rachael Sarah Haines, was born at Wiltshire, England, on July 17th, 1840. She was married in that place on July 1st, 1857 to Mr Frederick S. Toop, who predeceased her in February, 1927. The family come to Canada in 1872 and took up residence in Almonte, where she had spent the remainder of her life. Left to mourn the loss of a loving mother are seven children: ? William H., of town; Mrs W.R. More, Ramsay; Mrs W.H. Hamilton, Regina; Mrs Robt Lees, Moose Jaw; Augustus, town; Percy, Edmonton, and Gordon in Ramsay. Two children died in infancy and Arthur E., in Ramsay, in 1904. She lived to see the children of the fourth generation and leaves 46 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The funeral took place from the residence of her son, Mr William Toop on Thursday. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

    David Fumerton
    The death occurred Monday morning, April 26th, of Mr David Fumerton, at his home in Appleton, in his 80th year. The late Mr Fumerton had not enjoyed good health for several months and his death was not unexpected. The deceased leaves to mourn his passing two brothers and one sister, besides a family of two sons and four daughters - James of Hull, and Fred of Carleton Place; Mrs John Tuggy, of Ottawa, Mrs Toop, of Almonte, Mrs Wm Ashman, of Pakenham, and Mrs Ed Coxford, of Rochester, and to these bereaved ones the sympathy of the community goes out. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to the Auld Kirk cemetery, 8th line Ramsay. Beautiful floral offerings were placed on the casket from Mr and Mrs Tuggy, Mr and Mrs E. Coxford and Appleton friends.

    On Sunday last after five or six months' illness from lung trouble, Mrs David Fumerton succumbed, at the untimely age of 47 years, leaving the husband and six children in deep sorrow. Deceased, whose maiden name was Christina Aitken, was a woman much esteemed by those she knew her. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from the family residence on the Island, to the eighth line cemetery. A large number of sympathizing friends attended.

    The late Mrs. David Fumerton died at the residence of Hugh Lockhart Sen. Armstong's Lake N.W.T., on December 16, 1890. Jessie Finldey McGregor, wife of David Fumerton, formerly of Township of Ramsey, Ontario (and mother of A.W. and David Fumerton of this town) in 73rd year of her age.

    Deceased was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1818 and immigrated to Canada in 1821, being over 4 months on the ocean. They landed in Montreal where they remained for about 3 years. In 1824 they came to Ramsey and settled on E1/2 Lot 6 in 11 Concession. In 1837 she married David Fumerton and moved to W1/2 Lot1, 11 Concession. The result of this union was 3 daughters and 7 sons, all of whom are living, except Maggie, who was born in 1845 and died when young of scarlet fever.

    In 1887 she, with her husband, moved to the North West where their 2 daughters with their families and their youngest son were living. She remained there until the time of her death. She leaves a husband, 9 children, 38 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren to mourn her loss. Deceased was well known in the Township of Ramsey where she lived about 63 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was highly respected by all who knew her.
