?b?HEAVENOR, Kenneth Paul?/b?
October 1, 1926 ~ November 23, 2018

On November 23, 2018, Ken Heavenor passed away at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years. He leaves three sons; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a foster great-grandson. Born in 1926 at Aurora, Ontario to Helen Maloney, Ken was adopted into the Heavenor family in 1928 to a widow, Ellen Heavenor, and moved to Edmonton as the youngest of seven siblings. He was greatly loved by his mother and sisters - all having predeceased him. At 17, Ken caught tuberculosis and was admitted to the Sanatorium in Edmonton. He missed high school graduation but also missed the Second World War. Christian radio broadcasts led him to his Savior Jesus Christ. After fully recovering, he began working for Canada Manpower, where he completed 35 years of public service. He was introduced to his future wife on a trip to Banff, eventually marrying at Beulah Alliance Church, later joining Fellowship Baptist Church. When the boys were in Elementary school, the family joined Braemar Baptist Church where a vibrant youth program eventually contributed to two sons entering Christian ministry. He completed his high school and took university classes in the evenings while working full time and raising his family. He was a prolific reader particularly of European history, Royalty and Theology. He loved classic movies, classical music and photography. Ken was a long-time season ticket holder of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Edmonton Opera. A great conversationalist, Ken had so many wonderful friends. Ken and his wife have lived at Eden House for the last several months after living 52 years in their Westmount home and 6 years in the "blue" house in Millwoods. Graveside interment will be held at Glenwood Memorial Gardens at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 8; 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta, T8B 1B8. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Taylor Seminary (E.P Wahl Lectures).

10063 Ramsay Farmer Called By Death
H.M. Snedden Was Well known Resident of Appleton District
On Thursday night, Oct 5th, the whole community was shocked to hear of the sudden demise of Mr Herbert Mansfield Snedden which occured at the home of Mr Robert Barker, 8th line Ramsay, where Mr and Mrs Snedden and friends were spending the evening.
He has recently remarked to friends that he felt better than he had for years, but about 8:45 p.m. he complained of not feeling very well, though the symptoms were not alarming. However in a few minutes, medical aid was summoned and though everything possible was done for him, he passed away in about half an hour, a slight hemorrhage of the brain having developed.
Deceased, who was a son of the late Alexander Snedden, was born on september 6th, 1875, on the 7th line of Ramsay. In June 1899, he married Agnes B. Coxford of Blakeney, and they resided on the homestead for several years. Later they purchased the Wilson property on the Mississippi River, near Appleton.
In religion Mr Snedden was a Presbyterian until Church Union in 1925, then he became a member of Memorial Park Church, Carleton Place.
Mr Snedden is survived by his wife and two sons, Harold A. at home, and Herbert R. at Rosetown, Sask.
He was a man highly esteemed for his many sterling qualities and when the intimation of his passing was received, deep regret was expressed by a host of friend. His genial, generous disposition, his patience and thoughtfulness of others, his kindly consideration for the poor, made him the centre of a very large circle of friends. "The best portion of a good man's life is his many, little nameless acts of kindness and love."
The funeral was one of the largest ever witnessed in the community, took place on his many, October 8th, at 2 p.m. from his late residence.
the service was conducted by Rev Donald Munro B.A. of Memorial Park Church and Rev Andrew McLauchlin B.A., B.D. of Trinity Church, Almonte and United church Appleton.
Interment was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay. The pallbearers were: Messrs Thomas Coxford, Herbert Coxford, Robert Barker, Frank J. Paul, Alex Cochran and Wilbert Cochrane.
Along the many floral offerings testifying to the esteem in which deceased was held were wreaths from the family and Appleton friends and a spray from the A.F & A.M. the sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in their bereavement

10085 RATH - FONTAINE
A double ring ceremony was solemnized in Holy Cross Church, Norwood, Man., on Saturday, July 16th at 5:00 p.m., when Catherine Carole (Fontaine), younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fontaine, became the bride of Mr. Wilfred Herbert Rath, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rath, Clayton, Ontario. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a waltz length gown of silk organza and Chantilly lace. The lace bodice, nestling in a bouffant skirt, was designed with a contoured and shirred cummerbund giving a high cut effect. It featured petit sleeves and a sabrina neckline enhanced by iridescent sequins. Her chapel veil of illusion net drifted from a cap headpiece of nylon tulle trimmed with sequins and seed pearls, and she carried a cascade bouquet of red Delight roses. Her only adornment was a cultured pearl on a gold chain, a gift of the bridegroom. Attending the bride was her sister, Miss Janice Fontaine. She wore a cocktail length gown of mist pink organza styled with a fitted bodice of lace, little sleeves and a bouffant skirt. Her headpiece was of matching pink silk organza with a small circular veil, and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink carnations. The bride's mother chose a sheath dress of blue silk organza over satin with matching accessories. Her corsage was of deep pink Sweetheart roses. Mr. Robert Shewan was best man, and Mr. Walter Skye ushered the guests. A reception and dinner followed at the Curtis Hotel, with Mr. William Dunbar proposing the toast to the bride. Following a motor trip through the United States, the happy couple took up residence at 231 Dearborn Avenue, Winnipeg. For going away, the bride chose a sheath ensemble of beige linen with matching toned accessories.

10099 REF: Shawville Equity-Sept 8 1892 Edition Miss A. Prendergast of Eganville, who has been visiting friends around here left for home on Friday. REF: Shawville Equity-Edition Nov.9, 1894 "From the Eganville Enterprise we learn the facts of a very distressing accident which occurred on Sunday, the 23rd ult., whereby Adeline, the eldest daughter of Mrs. Wm. Prendergast, of Mink Lake, Ont., lost her life.
It appears that the family went to Eganville to attend services (church) and left the deceased to mind the house and prepare dinner. A few minutes to 12 o'clock a gun that was heavily loaded with shot, which was standing in the corner of one of the rooms, fell down, and while in the act of replacing it the gun went off, the charge entering her body a little below the ribs to the left of the stomach. When the family returned shortly afterwards the unfortunate young lady was seated in the rocking chair, her blood rapidly ebbing away. A doctor was immediately sent for, but everything that could be done to relieve the victim proved of no avail and she passed away about 5 hours after the accident. Deceased was 23 years of age.
She was well known in this section and was a niece of Messers. James, Thomas, and John Prendergast, of Clarendon.

REF: Eganville Enterprise A FATAL ACCIDENT- To One of Mink Lake's Most Popular Young Ladies One of those distressing accidents, which cast a gloom over the entire community, took place at Mink Lake on Sunday last at a few minutes before noon, by which a bright and popular young lady- the eldest daughter of Mrs. William. Prendergast -lost her life. It appears the family went to Eganville to attend services (church). Adeline, the eldest daughter, stopping at home to mind the house and prepare dinner. A gun which was heavily loaded with shot, which was standing in a corner of one of the rooms, by some means fell down. While Miss Prendergast was attempting to replace the gun it went off, the charge striking her a little below the ribs and to the left of the stomach, passing upwards and towards the left side. When the family returned from church, about forty minutes after the accident occurred, a shocking sight greeted them; their daughter and sister, whom they had left a few hours before the picture of health, sat in the rocking chair, and her life blood rapidly ebbing away-forming streams and pools upon the f oor. A doctor was immediately sent for and everything that medical skill could desire was done to alleviate her suffering, but all in vain. From the first it was seen that there was no hope, and the family were told to prepare for the worst. Although suffering untold agonies , her mind was clear until about half past four in the afternoon when she became unconscious ; death ensuing some fifteen minutes later. The deceased young lady was 23 years of age. and was very popular among her friends and acquaintances and her tragic death will long be remembered in this section. Mrs. Pendergast and the surviving members of the family have the heartfelt sympathy of all in this their hour of terrible affliction. The funeral takes place on Tuesday (today) at 2 o'clock p.m. from her mother's residence to St. John's church and cemetery.
(**Over the years, the family has hypothesized that the gunshot wound was self inflicted, because she was pregnant and unmarried.)
