A lifetime resident of North Gower, John passed away peacefully on November 29, 2019 in his 87th year. He was greatly loved by his wife of 62 years Doris (Robinson) and his three children; Philip, Doug (Linda) and Carolyn (Andrew Harkness). He is survived by his sister Ruth Kennedy (George), his sisters-in-law Joan Seabrook and Jane Robinson and was predeceased by his brother Eldon, his parents Horace and Gertrude Seabrook and his son Jeffrey. He will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. John was a graduate of Kemptville Agricultural College (1953) and he enjoyed a lifetime of farming and founding/operating his own business 'Carleton Farm Seed Supply.' John succeeded in farming because he worked hard and was adaptive, as most farmers need to be, moving from dairy to beef and then cash-cropping. He served as a Councillor in the Township of Rideau and in 'retirement' enjoyed 22 years as a crop insurance adjuster. In his leisure time as a youth he loved playing ball and hockey competitively and later enjoyed curling, golfing, square dancing and coffee hour with friends. In addition he was a skillful woodcarver. He was an active member of the North Gower Lion's Club, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and contributed much to his community and surrounding area throughout his life. His gift of humility and humour made him a good friend of so many. He braved the losses of Alzheimer's in his final years with quiet determination and grace and with the support of many in our caring rural community. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Kemptville District Hospital for their excellent professional care and loving compassion. Visitation will be held at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes (1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars) on Thursday, December 12, from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in North Gower (2372 Church St.) on Friday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m. with a reception following the service at Strathmere, the Garden House, 1980 Phelan Rd. from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Inurnment will take place in the spring. For those wishing to, memorial donations in memory of John may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, P.O Box 29, 2372 Church St., North Gower, ON K0A 2TO, or to the charity of your choice. Condolences, donations or tributes may also be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com. Godspeed John/Dad/Papa... thank you for all of your love... we will pass it on.
