10483 | rom FAG Contributor # 49329383 1887, Friday 8 July 1887 Another Old Resident Gone The Carleton Place Herald says: About eight o'clock on Monday evening, Dr. Wilson, who has been ailing for the past six weeks or so from the effects of a fall received about that time, passed away to meet his Maker. Deceased was a native of Rutherglen, Scotland, and came to this country when quite young. Before coming to Carleton Place he practised in Lanark Village, half a century ago. During the short time he resided in Lanark he married, and his wife survives him, Eleven children blessed this union, all of whom are alive. The daughters are Mrs Henry McPherson, Mrs Findlay Sinclair, Mrs Crampton, Mrs Metcalf, Mrs Berry, Mrs C. Patterson and Mrs J. Griffith. The sons are Joseph, William, John and Alexander. Dr Wilson has been a resident of Carleton Place for 47 years or more and was the first resident physician. He was a prominent man in his day but latterly was pretty much retired. He had passed the allotted time of four score years, being 82 years of age. Like most Scotchmen the doctor was a Presbyterian in religion and a member of St Andrew's Church. Army and worked as an insulator. He is survived by his wife, Linda Pfeiffer Coxford, 2 sons and 2 stepsons, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, 4 brothers and 1 sister. At his request his body was cremated and no services will be observed at this time. 10489 | Roy was one of twelve children born to Wickliff Newell and Mary Ellen Lawver. His father was a veteran of the Civil War, serving with the 4th Iowa Cavalry. After his discharge he moved to Nebraska to be a scout and guide for white settlers. During that time he married Roy's mother, Mary Ellen. His parents lived in Nebraska for many years and then moved to Colorado, where Roy was born. The family moved to Washington in 1899. Roy married Bessie Elsie Lyons. HE IMMIGRATED TO THE KINNONDALE AREA NORTH OF LOMOND TO HOMESTEAD WITH HIS FATHER JOHN "JACK" RUARK. IN 1910, THE FAMILY PURCHASED A FARM AND MOVED TO THE ENSIGN AREA. ARCHIE ATTENDED SCHOOL AT PEACE, ENSIGN AND CALGARY. IN 1921 HE GRADUATED FROM THE OLDS SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE. HE CONTINUED HIS EDUCATION IN NEW YORK WHERE HE GRADUATED FROM ELECTRICAL SCHOOL IN 1924. HE MARRIED ANNA WILLIAMS IN TORONTO, ONTARIO AND IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT HE CONTINUED TO WORK IN HEAVY ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION IN OHIO, KENTUCKY AND KANSAS. HE RETURNED TO ALBERTA IN 1926 TO BEGIN FARMING IN THE ENSIGN DISTRICT. ARCHIE TOOK THEOLOGICAL TRAINING DURING THE WINTERS AND IN 1933 HE GRADUATED FROM THE PRAIRIE BIBLE INSTITUTE. IN 1934 THE FAMILY MOVED TO GRAND PRAIRIE THEN TO SEXSMITH WHERE ARCHIE SERVED AS PRINCIPAL OF PEACE RIVER BIBLE INSTITUTE, UNTIL MAJOR SURGERY NECESSITATED HIS RESIGNATION IN 1942. THE REMAINING WAR YEARS HE LIVED AT VULCAN WHERE HE RAN THE SOLDIER'S, SAILOR'S AND AIRMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE #2 AIR TRAINING BASE. IN 1945 HE RETURNED TO PRAIRIE BIBLE INSTITUTE WHERE HE SERVED ON THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT AND STAFF. AFTER HIS SERVICE THERE, HE BUILT A HOUSE IN HIGH RIVER AND USED HIS HOME AS A BASE, FOR SHORT TERM PREACHING ASSIGNMENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY INCLUDING PRINCE RUPERT, QUEBEC AND INTO IDAHO. HE RETIRED TO LANGLEY, B.C. THEN KELOWNA WHERE HIS WIFE ANNA OF 58 YEARS WAS LAID TO REST. IN 1990 HE RETURNED TO THE LAND OF HIS YOUTH, VULCAN WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
