10805 SIMPSON, Helen (nee Kettles) Peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on Friday December 26, 2008 at the age of 85. Loving wife of Bill for 58 years. Dear mother of Wendy (Gus Jonkman), of White Lake, Gary (Marilyn) and Kevin (Beverley) of Ashton. Proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren. Helen will be missed by her sisters-in-law Audrey Bullis and Dana Featherston, and several nieces and nephews.

10825 Six children were born. Two of these died of typhoid fever during the 6 weeks ocean crossing to Canada in 1846. One note says one was buried at sea and the other at Quebec.

Another child James and the mother died also (believed to have been after arrival in Ramsay twp). Margaret, Robert & Eliza survived.

10826 SLATER RITES ON SATURDAY
A resident of Regina for close to 35 years, Mrs. Julia M, Slater. 2106 Argyle street, died Wednesday in a Regina hospital.
Funeral service will be in Westminster United church Saturday at 2 pm with Rev, Dr, J Scott Leith officiating. Burial will be In Riverside Memorial Park. Born in Clairmont, Iowa, Mrs Slater was educated in Chicago where she worked for a number of years before coming to Regina in 1920. She married John Slater in Regina He worked with the Minneapolis-Moline company for 35 years before retring in 1974.
Mrs Slater was an active member of the Regina Women's Liberal club and of Westminster United church.
Besides her husband, Mrs Slater is survived by a daughter, Mrs. E. A. Abbott, Washington, D. C.; a brother Fred Wille, 41 Grenfell apartments; a sister, Mrs. Amelia Chew, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and two grandchildren.
