?b?Robert Robinson Woods?/b? (son of Michael M. Woods and Charlotte Tuck) was born Abt. 1878, and died 04 May 1968.He married (1) Isabelle Ridley-Bews. He married (2) Jean M. Neilson on Abt. 1910 in Northern Ontario.
Met Jean Neilson in Latchford. Acquired the contract to build the railroad water towers from North Bay to Englehard 1903-1905.Moved with Jean to Elk Lake Ontario (gold rush area) and had two children: Evelyn (born 1911) and Lorne (born 1913).Operated a General Store in Elk Lake until it was destroyed by fire. They then decided to head for Western Canada and settle there. After a lengthy train trip they decided to return to Ontario. Jenny, now quite pregnant, found the trip really took it's toll on her health and on the return trip she and her unborn child died on 23 Feb 1915.
He married (3) Alberta Sarah Carnall on 03 Aug 1920 in St. Johns Anglican Church, New Liskeard, ON.
He returned to the area (it's thought that he may have returned to Muskoka from the West) around 1916 and settled in New Liskeard from 1916 until his death from old age in 1968

Mrs Herb. Stanley
The passing of Mrs. Herbert G. Stanley of Carleton Place occurred suddenly on Christmas Day, December 25. 1967, at the home of her daughter Lillian, Mrs. Wright Mohr in Ottawa. Mrs. Stanley suffered a severe heart attack and her death came without warning. She was in her 71st year. The former Annie Lillian James, she was born in Lanark Township on April 23, 1897, a daughter of the late Thomas Edward James and Hannah McNeely. She received her education at the home school, Carleton Place High School, Trinity College, and was a graduate of Ottawa Teachers' College. She was a member of St, James Anglican Church, Carleton Place, Rocky Ridge Women's Institute , and Group 1 of St. James Guild. Her hobbies were oil painting and the growing of flowers. The late Mrs. Stanley is survived by her husband, two sons, Henry James Stanley of, Milton, Ontario, and Herbert McDowall Stanley of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland: three daughters, Ellen, Mrs. Clare Chesney, Kitchener; Hannah, Mrs. Mel Gilmour, and Lillian, Mrs. Wright Mohr, both of Ottawa, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ben James of Almonte, and Edwin James , Carleton Place, and a sister, Ellen, Mrs. Hal Connell, Toronto. The funeral was held from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. West. Carleton Place, December 27th, to St. James Anglican Church for service at 2 p.m. Burial was made at St. George's Cemetery, Clayton. Services were conducted by the Rev. E.D. Fleming of St. James. Pallbearers were Harold James, Ben James , John Chamney, Ivan Gardiner, Ross Stanley and Donald Lashley.

Dies At 84 Years?/b?
The death of Mrs. Ivy Morton, widow of the late Walter H. Morton, occurred at the Almonte Nursing Home, on Saturday, April 6th, following an illness of seven months' duration . She was in her 85th year. Born in England, she was a daughter of George Stanley and Emily Wood. She came to Canada in 1905. Deceased was married May 28, 1908, to the late Walter Morton. She attended St. Paul's Anglican Church, was a member of Atthewell Rebekah Lodge, and a life member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mrs. Morton is survived by four sons, Stan, Arthur, Lawrence and Reg, all of Almonte, and three daughters, Lillian (Mrs. J. Dick) of Almonte, Ethel (Mrs. Ed. Mallon), Ottawa and Muriel (Mrs, Clayton Watchorn), Stittsville. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. W.F. Westbury, of Hamilton, Ont. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, April 8, from the Comba Funeral Home to St. Paul's Anglican Church for service at 2 o'clock. Services were conducted by Canon Ploughman, assisted by Ven. Archdeacon Eric Osborne of St, Matthew's Church, Ottawa. Burial was made, at St. Paul's Cemetery. Pallbearers were three grandsons, Larry Morton, Art Morton and Brian Watchorn, Garnet Doe, Lyle Cox and Bob McKittrick

W.B. McNEELY DIES - 52nd YEAR
Final tribute was paid to the memory of Willard Bryce McNeely at his funeral which took place on Wednesday, April 17, 1968, from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. west. to St James Anglican Church where the service was conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev E. Daniel Fleming assisted by Rev R Crawford of Ottawa officiating. Interment was in St James Cemetery. Mr McNeely, who had residing on the Arklan Farm, Beckwith Township, passed away on Sunday, April 14, in Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was in his 52nd year. Born in Carleton Place on August 28, 1916, he was the son of James McNeely, who survives and his wife the late Margaret Lynch. He was educated in Beckwith Township and had farmed all his life on the Arklan Farm. he was a member of St James Church. -594- Besides his father, he is survived by two brother, John of Ashton and Arnold of Carleton Place; five sisters, Edith (Mrs William Simpson), Dorothy (Mrs Ray Kennedy), Jean (Mrs H.K. Coleman), Fay (Mrs Robert Service) all of Carleton Place and Mrs Pat Yeamen of Montreal. The pallbearers were Keith and Kenneth McNeely, Dale Tysick, Percy Hay, Norman Clark and James Kennedy.

Kathleen Teskey ? A French Teacher For 37 Years
A school teacher who taught French to hundreds of Edmontonians, died in hospital, Wednesday. Miss Kathleen Teskey, 85, of Ste 1910, Avord Arms, taught at Victoria High School for 37 years before she retired in 1948. She was born in the Ottawa Valley village of Appleton, Ont. and attended Queen's University in Kingston where she was honoured as one of the school's most outstanding students. As part of her schooling, she spent some time in France. Miss Teskey began her teaching career in Ontario but moved to Edmonton in 1911 to teach at Victoria High. She was prominent in education organizations, a member of the Women's University Club and the Corona French Club. Her hobbies were gardening and travelling and she made several trips to Europe. Funeral services were held at Hainstock and Son's funeral chapel with Rev E.J. Thompson officiating. Cremation followed. She is survived by a nephew, John Teskey Forsythe and family, Pakenham, Ont.

MR. JAMES SNEDDEN
The community was deeply saddened on Christmas morning when word was received that James Snedden had passed away in his sleep at his home, 149 Mitcheson St., Almonte, in his 65th year. He was the son of the late William Snedden and Jennie Toshack. In 1941 he married the former Eliza Irene McCann of Pakenham. They lived on the 8th line of Ramsay until a year ago, December 19th, when they moved to their new home in Almonte. When ill health compelled him to give up farming he was employed by Pinecraft Ltd., Almonte. He was a faithful member of Blakeney United Church serving as treasurer and as a member of the Session for a number of years. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn, one son, Bruce and a grandson, David Snedden of Ottawa; three brothers, Wilfred of Almonte; Jack and Alex of Ramsay; one sister, Jean, Mrs. Connor Sutton of Renfrew. One sister, Isabel, Mrs. Arthur Blakeley, predeceased him several years ago. The funeral was held on Wednesday, December 27th, from the Kerry Funeral Home, to Almonte United Church for service conducted by Rev. H. F. Skoutajan and Rev. W. L. Henley of Carleton Place. Pallbearers were six nephews, Bill and David Snedden, Bill Sutton, Hugh Fulton, Earl and Sandy Snedden. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery.

HARVEY H. MILLAR?/b?
The death of Mr Harvey H. Millar of 131 Spring street, Almonte, occurred at the Almonte General Hospital on Friday afternoon, October 4th, following a lengthy illness. He was 68. Born in Pakenham Township on October 3rd, 1900. Mr Millar was a son of the late Adam C. Millar and Margaret E. Mick. He received his education at Cedar Hill Public School. He farmed on the 7th line of Ramsay Township for 30 years, and had been a resident of Almonte since September, 1967. Mr Millar was a member of Almonte United Church. He was married in Carleton Place on October 30, 1934, to the former Rachel L. Hodgins, who survives. Also surviving are four sisters, namely: Tena, Mrs Harry Gilliard of Saskatoon; Lila, Mrs Robert Struthers of Almonte; Effie, Mrs Robert Fulton of Kinburn, and Irene, Mrs Sam Nelson of New York City. Mr Millar was predeceased by four brothers, Chris, Pete, Ryerson and Elbert, and two sisters, Mabel, Mrs Stanley Boal and Meda, Mrs Arthur Leach. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, Almonte, on Sunday afternoon, October 6th, with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev W. Henley conducted the services. Pallbearers were Howard Fulton, Clare Syme. Ronald Gunn, Allan Hodgins, Wilbert McKay and Mervyn Healy. Honorary pallbearers were William Poole, Grant Gunn, Enoch Tennant and Alec Elliott.

The funeral was conducted at the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, Friday, for the late Mrs Gladys Lillian Julian, who died Wednesday last in a Kingston hospital, in her 71st year. The Rev W.W.H. Baird, Almonte, conducted the service. Born July 9, 1897, in Arnprior, she was the daughter of the late James Rivett and his wife, the late former Margaret Stewart. She was educated in Arnprior and married the late James Julian in Arnprior, January 14, 1922. Mrs Julian was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survives by three sons, Arnold, Carleton Place. Derwood, Hamilton, and Howard, Almonte, and three daughters; Dorothy (Mrs Bruce Commerford) Meadford; Marjorie (Mrs Norman Cochrane), Carleton Place, and Violet (Mrs Melville Byers) Smiths Falls. Two brothers Lorne and Russell Rivett, both of Arnprior survive, and one sister Violet, Arnprior. There are several grandchildren. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Attending the service from Arnprior were Mr and Mrs Lorne Rivett, Mr and Mrs Russell Rivett, Mr and Mrs Ted Brown, Jimmie Rivett, Miss Violet Rivett and Mr and Mrs Ernie Nicholas.

Well-known Painter And Decorator Passes
Mr Arthur Lockhart, a life-long resident of this area, passed away at Almonte General Hospital on Sunday, February 23, 1969. Born in Almonte, August 20th, 1893, he was the youngest son of the late Arthur Lockhart and Margaret Cowie. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, the former Lila Bennett and three children, Mel and Archie of Almonte, and Hilda (Mrs Keith Jackson), Bowmanville. One brother Harry, of Carleton Place also survives. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte. Rev Skoutajan conducted the service. Burial was in Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were four grandsons, Wayne and Don Lockhart, Brian and Arthur Jackson, Clark Larocque and Edgar Carroll. Many beautiful floral tributes and donations to worthy causes were received.

The death of Mr. Clifford Robertson occurred suddenly on Thursday, May 1st, while doing his regular evening's work at the Almonte General Hospital. He was 73. Born at Black's Corners in 1896, he was the last member of the family of the late James Robertson and Elizabeth Scott. He received his education in Beckwith schools. The late Mr. Robertson worked in the mills in Carleton Place and Almonte. Later becoming a mechanic, he owned and operated the business now known as Burns, Pontiac. During World War II he was an inspector of guns at Montreal, and was also a mechanic for Producers Dairy for a number of years. In 1963 he became an engineer at the Almonte General Hospital. He retired in the fall of 1966, but still remained on call should the need arise. Mr. Robertson was twice married. In 1922 he was married to the late Lena M. Watchorn, who predeceased him in 1952. In 1958 he was married to Effie (Cooper) Dunlop, who survives. He was a Past Master of Mississippi Masonic Lodge, No. 147 in 1927-28, and of Granite Chapter Royal Arch Masons No. 61. Funeral service was held at the Comba Funeral Home, Church street, on Sunday afternoon, May 4th, at 2 p.m., interment in, Auld Kirk Cemetery. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from neighbours, family, friends and organizations. Pallbearers were two nephews, Ross Shail and Robert Barclay, Carman Craig, Howard Lowe, Hugh McClymont and Millar Struthers. Owing to the arrival of Cpl. David Cooper from Germany at Uplands at 4 p.m., committal service took place in the Auld Kirk Church.

Mrs John B. Neilson
The death of Mrs Elsie (Craig) Neilson occurred suddenly at
the Almonte General Hospital on Friday, April 25th, 1969, as the result of a stroke. Born at Rosetta, Ontario, November 13th, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Adam Craig and Mary Arnott. In 1916 her family moved to the eleventh line of Ramsay, where she lived until June 27th, 1923, when she was united in marriage to John Burns Neilson. To this union was born four children, Wilfred Ross, Almonte; William John Lorne, Kingston; Alice May (Mrs Wilmer Melanson), Pakenham, and Marion Elsie (Mrs Bert Timmins), Blakeney, who survive along with her husband, Also felt to mourn are ten grandchildren and her only brother, A. Ross Craig, Almonte. They farmed on the twelfth line of Ramsay until 1955 when they retired to 178 Church Street, Almonte. She was a faithful member of the United Churches in Appleton and Almonte and a Charter Member of the Appleton Women's Institute. Funeral services were held from the Kerry Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery on Sunday April 27th. Pallbearers were John L. Virgin, J. Alex Stewart, Mack James, and three cousins, Robert Arnott, Grant Arnott and Elmer Goodfellow.

She is survived by seven sons, Arthur, Fred and Aylmer of Carleton Place; Ewen, Ottawa; Harry, Arnprior; William, Pembroke, and Albert, Clinton, Ont.; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. L. Gimbel) of Brunswick, Maine and Maybeth (Mrs. L. Goyne) Olympia, Wash.; a brother George Doucett of Carleton Place and a sister, Mrs. Annie Wiggins, Oshawa, Ont. The pallbearers were Messrs. Mrs McNeely, who had resided at 4 Victoria St., passed away suddenly at her home on May 6. She was 84 years of age. Born in Ramsay Township, April 23, 1885, the former Phoebe A. Houston, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Houston and his wife, the late Hannah Galbraith. She was a active member of the Zion-Memorial United Church and was a life member of both the Rocky Ridge W.I. and U.C.W. She was the widow of Ernest Howard Turner by first marriage and William James McNeely by second marriage. She is survived by a son Alex H. Turner of Victoria B.C., Deputy Minister of Agriculture, British Columbia; a step-son, Arthur E. McNeely of Carleton Place; a daughter, Mrs Hannah A. McArton of Carleton Place; and a brother, Archie Houston of Winnipeg Man. The Pallbearers were P.R. Leach, E. Foote, E. Hale, W.J. Anderson, G. Cox, and A.E. McNeely.

A private funeral service was held at Boyce's Chapel on Monday September 22 for Robert MacKenzie Neilson, 73 of John Street, who died in Arnprior Hospital on Saturday, September 20. Mr Neilson was born on December 3, 1895 in Banff, Alberta. He went to public school and high school in Carleton Place, Ontario. He was employed in the Blanket Division of Kenwood Mills Ltd, Arnprior for 25 years. He had the position of Sales Manager and Director. Mr Neilson was a member of the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He served in the Air Force during World War I. Mr Neilson, who never married was predeceased by his mother, Mary Jean Anderson and father, William G. Neilson. He had two surviving sisters, Mrs David Borrowman of Vancouver, B.C. and Miss Violet Neilson of Arnprior. The funeral service was preformed by Reverend Leo Hughes. The body rested at the Boyce Funeral Home.

Popular Almonte Woman Dies As Result of Two-car Crash
The Town of Almonte was saddened last Thursday when it became known that Mrs Mavis Eleanor Dunfield had passed away in the Ottawa Civic Hospital from severe injuries she received when involved in a two-car head-on collision on Highway 17, two miles east of the Carp cut-off on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Dunfield, two of her children and her mother, Mrs Gordon Fraser were on their way to Ottawa to visit with Mr Fraser, who was a patient in the hospital undergoing tests when the accident occurred. The crash happened during a swirling snow storm, and O.P.P. officers said the highway was snow-covered and visibility poor at the time of the mishap. The two children, Christopher and Heather, and Mrs Fraser were also removed to the Ottawa Civic. Christopher was released after examination the same day and Heather was able to return home Monday of this week. Mrs Fraser is still confined to hospital, suffering from head and facial and severe fractures of her hip and leg. Mavis, who was in her 36th year, was born in Almonte on April 8, 1934, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Gordon Fraser (Edna Turner). She received her education in Almonte Public and High Schools. For the past eight years se had been employed as a secretary in the office of the Town Clerk, R.J. France, and was well and favourable known to her fellow townspeople. Prior to her position at the town hall, she had been on the staff of the Royal Bank at Almonte and Arnprior, and had also worked on occasion with the Income Tax Department at Ottawa. Mavis was a member of the Almonte United Church and a few years ago had been a faithful teacher in the Sunday School. On October 17, 1953, she was united in marriage at Richmond, Ont, to Mr Allan Earl Dunfield, who survives, together with her parents, and four children, Wanda, 14, Ronald, 13, Chris 8, and Heather, 5. Also surviving are two brothers Barry, of Gananoque, and Maurice of Welland. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin street, Almonte, on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Interment was made at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev W.L. Henley of Carleton Place, formerly of Pakenham, conducted the services. Pallbearers at the funeral were Robert J. France, J.P. McGregor, Maurice Ayotte, Ron Bradley, Paul France and Robert Lebel.

Residents of the area were saddened to learn of the death recently of Thomas Allan Julian, who passed away at the Almonte General Hospital on January 19th,1970. Mr Julian had not been in good health for some time but had kept active until he was hospitalized with a stroke early in January. He was 85 years of age. Born in London, England, on New Year's Day, 1885, the son of Mr and Mrs George Julian, he came to Canada at the age of five and lived his entire life in and around Almonte. He worked as a gardener for the Rosamond family and other prominent Almonte families for several years before going into business as a carter. Mr Julian was a lifelong member of Almonte United Church and was for many years a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge. He was married in Almonte on August 21st, 1912 (by the Rev E.P.H. King), to the former Tillie Elizabeth More, who survives. Surviving besides his wife, are seven children: Maurice, Niagara Fall, Ontario; Versel, Leonard and Desmond of Wahnapitae, Ontario; Donald, Almonte; Gladys (Mrs George Mercer), Toronto, and Frances (Mrs Vincent Roach), Ottawa. He leaves 31 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, James and Walter, and a sister, Emily. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22nd, at 2.30 p.m. Rev Ian McDonald conducted the service, assisted by Canon H. Ploughman. Interment was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold More, Charles More, Milton More, Andrew More, Real Deslauriers and Eric Julian

A lifelong resident of Almonte and area in the person of Miss Pearl Edmonson Tosh, passed away in the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, on Friday, March 20, 1970, in her 77th year. Miss Tosh, who has been a resident at Lanark Lodge in Perth since November, 1968, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was a patient in the hospital for six days before her death. Born in 1894, a daughter of the late Robert C. Tosh and his wife, Caroline M. Powers, of the 9th line of Ramsay, she received her education at Greig's School. She moved with her parents to Almonte in 1921, and resided at 116 Charles Street. She was a member of St John's Presbyterian Church, and was an active curler and the Almonte Curling Club for 27 years. Surviving are three brothers: Alexander C. Tosh of Almonte, Winnard R. Tosh of El Sobranto, California, and Harvey B. Tosh, San Francisco, Calif. A brother, Cephas M. Tosh, and a sister, Caroline M. Tosh are predeceased. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, on Sunday afternoon, with interment Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. Rev William Baird conducted the services. Pallbearers were Stuart, Mervin, Orval, George and Robert Tosh, and Allan Stanley.

Thomas Eli Blakeney
Thomas Eli Blakeney, better known as Tommy, 229 Ann Street, a long time resident of Almonte, died in the Almonte General Hospital on Tuesday, May 19th, following a lengthy illness. Born in Paris, Ontario, on June 12th, 1890, he was a son of the late John and Emma Blakeney and was in his 80th year at the time of his passing. For a time the family lived in Toronto, coming to Almonte 53 years ago, when he took a job working for his father, who was manager of the former Yorkshire Shoddy Mill, located at the foot of Mill Street, where he stayed until the mill closed a number of years ago. In the late 1920's and early 1930's he was trainer for the Almonte Senior Hockey team when hockey was at its height here. He was an ardent fisherman and was quite fond of gardening. Mr Blakeney was a member of the Almonte Volunteer Fire Brigade for 35 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant. Fifty-seven years ago, in Toronto, he married the former Lillian Collinson, who survives along with four daughters and two sons, namely Grace (Mrs Boyd Hurdis), Norway Bay, Doris (Mrs Lawrence Morton), Almonte, Thelma, (Mrs Harold Robinson), Carleton Place, Earl, Almonte, Murray, Peterborough, Jean (Mrs Vern Le Blanc), Ottawa. One son, Donald is deceased. In addition he is survived by two sisters, Annas (Mrs Bill Pikard), Toronto and Edna (Mr Wilmer Illingworth), Almonte; three brothers, Bill of Almonte, Art and Jack of Simcoe. The funeral service, conducted by Rev R. McCrea, of the Almonte United Church, was held at the Comba Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, May 21st, when a large number of friends and relatives were on hand to pay their last respects to a well-known resident of the town. The following members of the Almonte Fire Brigade acted as pallbearers: Durward Washburn, John LaMaistre, Frank Honeyborne, Ross Stanley, Keith Blakeney and Frank Lowe. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Mrs Mary Jane McKay
The death occurred in Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, November 3, of Mary Jane Rodger, wife of the late John McKay. Mrs McKay was in her 93rd year and had spent the last few months in Lanark Lodge, Perth. Born in Middleville, Mrs McKay was the last surviving member of the late James Rodger and his wife Maria Whitten. Three brothers and two sisters predeceased her, namely: James of North Dakota; David and Bella of Salmon Arm, B.C.; Hugh of Middleville and Ellen of Rosetta. Following her marriage, Mrs McKay resided in Arnprior until the retirement of her husband. At that time the couple came to make their home in Almonte. Of a quiet disposition, the late Mrs McKay took pleasure in he activities of her home and church. A family of four survive, namely: T. Lloyd, of Ottawa; Laura (Mrs J.V. Baker), Oakville; Ethel (Mrs Morden Duncan) and Olive (Mrs Howard Giles), both of Almonte. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Thursday, November 5, with burial in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev Robert McCrea. The pallbearers were three grandsons, Bruce Duncan, Tom and Brian McKay and three nephews, Wm Creighton, Roy Rodger and James McKay.

Gordon Scott Fraser
The death of Gordon Scott Fraser, well-known Almonte businessman occurred in hospital in Ottawa on Monday, November 16, in his 68th year. Mr Fraser lived in Almonte all his life, and owned and operated the business on Queen street of 37 years ? possibly the oldest in Almonte. He was born in Almonte on September 13, 1903, a son of Gavin Scott Fraser and Cassie Pettigrew, He was married to the former Edna Turner in 1927. He was a former member of Trinity Church and served in the capacity of a church elder and as superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member of the school board in 1947-48, and was at one time a member of the Almonte Lions Club. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Barry of Gananoque and Maurice of Welland; a brother, Kenneth of Almonte; a sister, Marjorie, Mrs Joe Hawkins of Carleton Place, and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter, Mavis, Mrs Allan Dunfield of Almonte, and a sister, Myrtle, Mrs Sam Christo of Brockville. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin street, on Wednesday afternoon, November 18, with interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery

The death of Ila Mae Dunfield of Almonte occurred at the Almonte General Hospital on Tuesday night, October 27th, following a lengthy illness. She was in her 83rd year. Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late George Jackson and his late wife Phoebe Jane Tucker. She had resided in Almonte for the past 40 years and was a member of Almonte United Church. She is survived by her husband Alex Dunfield, one son Wilfred E. of Almonte and two daughters, Laura E. (Mrs Lilburn Wilson) of White Lake and Aleta J. (Mrs Robt France), Almonte; also one brother, Charles A. Jackson of Carleton Place and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev Robert McCrea. The pallbearers were Messrs George Dunfield, Cliff Black, Kenneth Jackson, Wilbert Monette, Ivan Bird and Mac Moulton.

Thomas Wilbert McKay
The sudden death of Thomas Wilbert McKay, occurred at his home, St George St., Almonte, on Saturday morning, October 17th, at the age of 59. Born at Middleville on July 21, 1911, he was the eldest son of Welland McKay and the late Nellie Rodger. He received his education at Middleville. Later moving to Ramsay, where he farmed, besides being Stationary Engineer at the Almonte Dairy, No 1 Mill, and for the last ten years was employed at the Collie Woollen Mill, Appleton. On September 30, 1936, in St George Church, Clayton, the late Mr McKay was married to Marjorie Poole, who survives his loss with three sons, George and Harold of Ottawa, and Arthur at home. Two daughters-in-law, Margaret and Janis, and a darling granddaughter, Krista Margaret, all of Ottawa. His father, one brother James and his uncle, Charlie McKay of Almonte, also survive. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 20. Burial was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service was conducted by Rev L. Hughes of Arnprior. Honourary pallbearers were Messrs John Sutherland, M.R. Thompson, N.T. Sadler, Earle Currie, Ralph Sinnett, John Waddell and W.A. Metcalfe. Active pallbearers were Messrs Earl Cowan, John Mann, Don Thurston, Gordon Weir, Delmer Paterson and Ernest Giles. Flower-bearers were Ray Cowan, Bob Sadler, Ronnie McKay and Karl Mann.

Robert William Giles
Mr Robert W. Giles passed away suddenly in Almonte General Hospital on September 2nd, 1970. Mr Giles was born in Ramsay Township on October 24, 1875, a son of the late Adonijah Giles and wife Margaret Evans. He was married in 1903 to the former Jean McArthur who predeceased him in 1948 Surviving are two sons, Ernest and Allan and five daughters, Mrs N.T. Sadler (Jean), Mrs Rae (Florence), Mrs Baird (Laura), all of Almonte, Mrs F. Obrey (Mary) of Rnefrew and Mrs W.J. Carpenter (Eleanor) of Smiths Falls and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by twins, a son and daughter. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs W. Elliott (Minnie) of Sonningdale, Sask, Mrs B. Traill (Ada) of Smiths Falls and Mrs E. Rankin (Eva) of Ottawa. Two brothers, Edward and Reuben and one sister, Elizabeth predeceased him and two half brothers, Findlay Gordon and William Gordon. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, on Saturday, September 5, 1970, with burial in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev Robert McCrea of Almonte United Church conducted the service. The death occurred at Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 5th, 1971, of Anna Mildred Proctor, beloved wife of Hubert A. Syme, Appleton, Ontario, in her 79th year. Daughter of the late John Proctor and Matilda Watchorn, she received her education in Clayton and helped in her parent's store. She attended and was organist at St George Church, Clayton. In 1918 she moved to a farm on highway 29, presently occupied by Mr and Mrs Bert Lowry, and in 1923 was married to Hubert A. Syme. To them was born four children, Orville Stewart, Pakenham; Nelson Aberdeen, Appleton; Lois Mildred, who survive, and George Milburn deceased. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Funeral services were held August 7, 1971, from the Allan Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte. Rev Robt J. McCrea conducted the services with Mrs Cecil Turner, rendering a solo, "Peace, Perfect Peace." Honourary pallbearers were George Gomme, George Doucett, George Thompson and Edwin James. Pallbearers were George Hilliard, Grant Gunn, Cecil Turner, Holy Lowry, Gerald Munroe and William Bellamy.

The death of Martin Alexander Dunfield, of Almonte, occurred at the Almonte General Hospital on Friday, March 5th, 1971. He was predeceased by his wife, Ila Mae Dunfield, in October of last year. Born in Pakenham, Township, he was the son of the late Martin Dunfield, of Ireland, and his late wife, Jane Connery of Cedar Hill. He was the youngest and last surviving member of a family of eleven children. He was a farmer until he moved to Almonte some 40 years ago and followed the carpentry trade until his retirement. He is survived by one son Wilfred E., of Almonte, and two daughters, Laura E. (Mrs Lilburn Wilson) of White Lake an Aleta J. (Mrs Robert France), Almonte, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Sunday, March 7th, at 2 p.m. Services were conducted by Rev Robert J. McCrea. Entombment in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. Funeral services for the late Mrs Thomas Barclay, of 4 Montgomery Blvd, Belleville, were conducted at the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, on Wednesday, March 17, at 2.30 p.m. Mrs Barclay passed away at the Belleville General Hospital on Monday, March 15, following an illness of three months. She was 67. The former Roberta Irene Watchorn, she was born at White Lake, a daughter of the late Robert Watchorn and his wife Eliza Millar. She received her education at Almonte Schools and was a member of Almonte United Church. She was married at Almonte in June, 1929, to Thomas Barclay, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Robert Barclay of Belleville, and an 18-months old grandson, Thomas Barclay, Jr. Rev Robert McCrea, of Almonte United Church conducted the funeral services. Interment was made at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were E. Adams, J. Langlois, R. Schultz, C. Fulton, David Cooper and Arnold Watchorn.

The death of Mr Oral Arthur occurred at Almonte in the General Hospital, Saturday, April 10, 1971. He was 77. Born on February 9, 1894, he was a son of the late John Arthur and his wife, the late Jessie Stewart. He was married to Kathleen Anderson on September 29, 1921, who predeceased him February 7, 1966. Surviving are two sons, Jack of Almonte and Donald of Pakenham and five grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs Jack McGill (Margaret), Pakenham; Mrs Frank Rose (Kathleen), Perth, and Mrs Robert McPhail (Jean), Almonte. He received his education at Blakeney school. He was a member of the Masonic Order, receiving his 50 year membership pin in February. The funeral was held at the Kerry Funeral Home on Sunday, April 11, 1971, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev Robert McCrea officiating, Entombment at Auld Kirk Cemetery Vault, with interment in the spring. The pallbearers were John Currie, Weldon Timmons, Melville Royce, John Gorman, Sam Arthur and Jack McPhail.

The death of Mary Kathleen Alexander, 164 Tasse Avenue, Renfrew, occurred at Renfrew Victoria Hospital on June 12th, 1971, after a lengthy illness. She was 61 years of age. Born at Cedar Hill, Ontario, December 8th, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Fulton and Margaret Sutherland. She was educated in Almonte where, on June 11, 1938, she was married to Morley Kemp Alexander who survives. They later moved to Renfrew where they had made their home for the past 29 years and where Mrs Alexander was an active member of the United Church. Surviving besides her husband is one son, Brian Douglas of Renfrew, and two sisters, Mildred (Mrs Glen Eckford), Arnprior and Pearl (Mrs Ross Barr), Almonte. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Frank Mitchell, of Renfrew and Rev Robt Bhe, Almonte, at McPhail and Perkins Funeral Home, Renfrew, on Sunday, June 13th, at 11:45 a.m. Interment was made at Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Mrs Lynch Dies 77 Years
The funeral of Mrs Dan Lynch took place on Saturday, March 18, 1972, from the Fleming Bros Funeral Home, Lake Ave, west, to St James Anglican Church for services at 1.30 p.m., with Rev Canon Bovington of Perth officiating. Entombment was in St James vault. Mrs Lynch, who had resided at 148 Gore St. east, Perth formerly residing in Carleton Place, passed away on March 16, in the G.W.M. Hospital, Perth. She was in her 77th year. Born in Clarendon Station, April 22, 1895, the former Laurel M. Sergeant, she was a daughter of the late Robert Sergeant and his wife, the late Christina Ferguson. She attended St James Anglican Church, Perth and was a member of St James Guild. She was married in Maberly, to Daniel Lynch, who predeceased her in 1953. She is survived by four sons, Colonel and Albert of Carleton Place; Donald of Brantford and Harry of Sudbury; six daughters, Laural (Mrs N. Porter), Windsor; Muriel (Mrs W. Edwards), Hamilton, Rae (Mrs A. Guindon), Brantford, Betty (Mrs L. Gauthier), Sudbury, Dorothy (Mrs I. Crampton), Ottawa and Fern (Mrs C. Gorgoni), Syracuse, N.Y. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eleanor; a sister, Lila (Mrs W. Hannah), Perth. The pallbearers, grandsons of the deceased, were Kenneth, Gary, and Barry Lynch, Ronald and Donald Guindon and Randy DesRosiers.
