On March 24, 2022, Margaret Duncan concluded her long, prosperous and healthy life. In her 98th year, Margaret was a successful businesswoman, an elected municipal official, a community fundraiser, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Survived by her children Isabel Metcalfe (Herb Metcalfe), Pennie Eagen (Pat Eagen), Kathy Duncan, Allan Duncan (Tammy Connors), Christine Moses (Darcy Moses); her grandchildren Julie Metcalfe (Tim O'Malley), Dan Metcalfe (Mandy Metcalfe), Dr. Kathleen Metcalfe, Elizabeth Eagen (Trevor McKay), Allison Eagen (Brad Hewton), Charlotte Eagen (Colin MacKenzie), Andrew Eagen (Katie Kelly), Jonas Vaskas (Nicola Swanby), Tessa Vaskas (Tyler Stanton), Chris Duncan (Sidney Morgan), Connor Duncan (Annie Bergeron-Oliver), Taylor Duncan (Brandon Watt), Josh Goodwin, Tom Moses, Jack Moses (Courtney Bradley); and her great grandchildren Grace O'Malley, Maisie O'Malley, Scarlett O'Malley, Maeve Metcalfe, Ryan McKay, Isaac McKay, James Hewton, Norah Hewton and Hazel Hewton.

Margaret graduated from Teachers College in Hamilton and taught in rural Ontario. Her first classroom had 32 students ranging from grades one to eight. In 1951, she married Hugh Duncan and they began Duncan's Poultry Farm in Almonte, Ontario. Together they built a business that ran for forty years, and secured egg markets throughout Eastern Ontario.

In 1974, she was the first woman to be elected to Ramsay Township Council, and in 1994, she became the first female Warden of Lanark Country. She loved her community, she served it well and never lost a municipal election ? usually topping the polls.

When Hugh Duncan died in 1995, Margaret transitioned from municipal politics to become a sought-after community volunteer, including a board member at the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital and the Almonte General Hospital. She became a champion fundraiser for the Almonte General Hospital receiving the Senior of the Year Award in 1997 and the Bert McIntyre Memorial Fundraising Award in 2020.

Her belief in God, her love of music, flowers, people and travel sustained her throughout her active and vibrant life. A life-long member of the Liberal Party of Canada, she followed politics, the stock market, international affairs, public policy, and of course, fashion. She stayed current with technology and embraced online banking when she was 75, using it daily until her mid-90s. Margaret was generous with her experience and her approach. She was an angel investor to local businesses and a mentor to hundreds of men and women, especially people seeking public office.

As a nation builder, Margaret Duncan will be remembered for her kind and tolerant views, her inclusivity and her love of life.

2988 ?b?McEwen, Finley Kearney?/b?
(September 14, 1925 - June 4, 2023)
Peacefully passed away at home in Beckwith, Ontario surrounded by his family on Sunday June 4, 2023 in his 98th year. Eldest son of William and Ada (Kearney) McEwen, Finley lived a full life on the Family Farm, which was called Glen Athol in Beckwith Township. Later he began operating his own Saw Mill in 1940 where he and his crew took in trees to be made and sold for lumber. Finley was well known around for his Mill as locals would seek to buy and learn a piece of history. His deep knowledge for airplanes and trains spanned many decades, which always created a fascination from anyone who struck up a conversation. Finley was an original founding member of the Beckwith Volunteer Fire Department, since 1964 and served for years to follow. He was actively part of the Freemasonry for 70 years and loyal member of his church for decades. Finley has generously given to over 60 charities during his lifetime. Over the many years that Finley has lived so many have remembered how kind and willing he always was to assist a person in need. Finley will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Finley leaves behind his beloved wife Kathryn Mary Lee McEwen and son Paul Finley McEwen (daughter in-law Julie-Anne).
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join the family for visitation held Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00pm, and 7:00 to 9:00pm with a Masonic Service at 6:30 pm at Alan R. 2989 ?b?McEwen, Margaret Leith?/b?

Our dear Mother, Margaret Leith McEwen, passed away peacefully on November 21st at the Elisabeth Bruy?re Hospice, in her 93rd year. Born in Montreal in 1930, to Mary (Pollock) and Bill Turpie, after WW II she moved with her family to Army temporary housing at Uplands in Ottawa where she met our father Keith, an air mechanic at the Ottawa Flying Club. They fell madly in love. When Dad joined the RCN Air Branch Mom waited until her 20th birthday, then quit her job at the bank and ran away from home to join her sailor in Halifax. Their marriage in 1950 was the beginning of a wonderful 62 year partnership during which Mom made homes for us in various places around the Halifax/Dartmouth area; in Hamilton; at Arbroath, Scotland; Los Angeles; at Carleton Place; and in Ottawa. Mom showed us the value of family through her unflagging love and dedication to our happiness and well-being, and by her consistent encouragement and support for all our endeavors. As we grew older Mom also frequently worked outside our home, in various banks and as a bookkeeper. With her bright sociable personality, she easily fit into new surroundings and made lifelong friendships. Mom particularly prized the group of people with whom she and Dad worked to build homes on Ocean Lea Drive in Eastern Passage. She loved cruising far and wide with Dad during their retirement.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, her beloved Keith, her brother Jack Turpie, and our much-missed brother Rob.
