Craig Passes Suddenly Many pay Tribute To Respected Citizen of Almonte District A respected citizen of Almonte passed away, Tuesday in the person of Adam William Craig. He was only 63 years of age and while he had been subject to periodical trouble with his heart in the last few years his final illness was sudden and of such brief duration that word of his death came as a great shock to all who knew him. Mr Craig was born at Rosetta and was the only child of the late Adam Craig and Margaret McGonigal. He was brought up on the Lanark Township farm and occupied it until some 19 years ago when he purchased a farm in Ramsay Township from John Neilson and the Misses Neilson. This farm is now occupied by a son Ross. Mr and Mrs Craig having moved into Almonte nine years ago and purchased the present family home, corner of Elgin and Country streets, from the late Mrs John Cumming. For some years the late Mr Craig had acted as clerk of the session of Bethany Church and as secretary of the Ramsay Farmers' Club. He was a quiet man who made a point of attending to his own affairs, a good farmer who knew the meaning of hard, conscientious work and a fine neighbour. He will be greatly missed by many friends and former neighbours in Lanark, Ramsay, Almonte and other parts of the district. Mr Craig is survived by his wife, formerly Mary Ann Arnott, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Arnott of Lanark Township and by a son and daughter, namely, A.R. Craig of Ramsay and Mrs J.B. Adam and Mary had eight children. The funeral of the late Adam Acres took place to Dominion City Cemetery on Thursday, the 21st. Deceased was one of the oldest residents of the district, having settled there twenty-two years ago. He leaves a family of six to mourn his death. Two daughters, Mrs. Geo Hempton, Dominion City, and Mrs. Robt. Barber, Winnipeg, and four sons, all the latter residing on farms near Dominion City. 4568 | After a few months' illness, Edward John Rose passed away at the almonte General Hospital on June 16th. He was born in Ramsay Twp, on the farm now owned by Mr K B Ralph, on November 3rd, 1894. When a young boy his parents moved to Pakenham Township, where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was the older son of Nathaniel Rose and Frances Core. A brother, Frank, predeceased him seventeen years ago. He was married on Oct, 1923 to Edna Myrtle Paul, who survives along with two neices, Barbara (Mrs Keith Armstrong), Kingston and Margaret (Mrs Campbell)Perth. Mr Rose was one of theprime movers in getting the North Lanark Co-op established in Almonte. He served as manager of the Co-op for several years and in all was employed there for a total of sixteen years. Prior to that he farmed on Highway 29 near Pakenham where he and Mrs Rose continued to live in their farm home. Mr Rose was widely known throughlout the community and was highly regarded by one and all. He was a member of the Almonte United Church, the service being conducted on June 18th by his pastor, Rev H F Skoutajan at the Kerry Funeral Home. the pallbearers were two nephews, Robert Naismith, Kenneth Campbell and four neighbours Lloyd Dickson, Wilfred Linsday, James Conneryand Gordon Donaldson. 4569 | After a full life, well lived, Katherine (Kay) D. Widness 92, of Sun City Center, FL, died peacefully on December 26, 2010. The first child of Floyd P. and Ruth M. Davis, Kay was born in 1918 and grew up in Wilmington, Vermont, where her family operated a farm, restaurant, and grocery store. She was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from the University of Vermont in 1940 with a degree in home economics. She went on to receive a Masters Degree in human nutrition from Iowa State University. Professionally she performed nutrition research for the federal government and, after raising her two children, taught home economics and nutrition at the secondary school and junior college levels. On Jan. 1, 1943, she married John E. Widness, and their loving and happy marriage lasted 58 years until John's death in 2001. Throughout her life, Kay was an active community participant and leader. Outgoing, caring, and eager to help others, she volunteered in numerous civic and church organizations. She was a loving, loyal, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by a son, John (Jack) and his wife, Michaelanne, of Iowa City, IA; a daughter, Karen Birch and her husband, Tom, of Prescott, AZ; four grandchildren, Jamie DeBella, Benjamin, Jane and Laura Widness; a brother, Donald Davis, of Edmonds, WA; a sister-in-law, Marianne Davis, of Ipswich, MA; a cousin, Gladys King, of Pittsfield, MA: and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her brothers Robert, Paul, Norman and Phillip; and her parents. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to CARE, The Salvation Army, and United Community Church in Sun City. 4570 | After a life filled with laughter and love Tim (Leonard) Victor passed away on May 14, 2016 at the age of 68 in Renfrew Ontario with family and friends nearby. Originally from Thunder Bay, Tim moved to Renfrew where he met the love of his life Linda Lee (nee Drynan). Tim made many friends in his adopted community especially Bob Gray and Karl Macdonald and with them he enjoyed cards, golfing, fishing and hunting. He gloated to his brothers that he was the only one of them to have hit a hole-in-one. Tim was the master of the one liner and his smile and easy laugh will be remembered by all who met him. Tim's profession was selling things, from clothing in his early years to electronics including fridges and stoves later on. He loved to sell! Tim has left us but is now with his wife and soulmate Linda Lee who passed away June 23, 2015 and his beloved dog Brandy. Tim will be greatly missed by his sons Lennie and Tyler as well as his mother and father Marjorie and Len Victor, his brothers Tom (Shirley), Rick (Cheryl), and sisters Leslie (Lloyd, deceased), Marjie (Glen), Vikki (Ian) and family friend Gary. Family members who mourn his passing include many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tim is also survived by stepdaughters Connie and Melinda and stepsons Ric and Kevin. Tim leaves behind cherished young people from both his immediate family and his wife Linda's family especially his step grandkids Brandon (Maegan), Kurstin, Tessa, Jonah, Griffin, Jake and Carter. A graveside service was held at noon at the Guthrie United Cemetery, Clayton, on May 20, 2016, followed by a celebration of his life at the Renfrew RCAF Wing in Renfrew Ontario. Our family would like to thank all those who sent beautiful cards, flowers, food, or visited the home to express words of condolence. A special thanks to Tim's medical caregivers at the Ottawa Heart Institute and to the caregivers at Wesway and St. Elizabeth in Thunder Bay who cared for dad while his family was at Tim's services. She was born Dorothy Jean Kidd in Portland, Oregon on January 19, 1943 to David & Irene Kidd. Dorothy spent her childhood in Portland before moving to the valley where she met, fell in love with, and married the love of her life, LeRoy Mackey, who preceded her in death in 1994. She later married Ed Sargent, who also preceded her in death. Dorothy spent most of her life being a housewife and mother, raising 5 children. She was a loving mother and wife and being a mother was her most cherished job. She loved her Chihuahua's Nana & Taco who, in her later years, were her companions. She loved watching old western movies & coloring with her grandkids & great-grandkids. Her favorite place to be was at the beach & she loved to travel! Dorothy is survived by her children: daughters: Sue Mackey-Nichols (Marc), Cris Ryan (Don), Lisa Taylor (Chad); sons: David Mackey (Suzanne) & Donny Mackey (Rachel); 9 grandchildren: Zanda, Justin, Sean, Theoren, Skylar, Tyler, Jenny, Shaenna, and Alee; 7 great-grandchildren: Alissa, Aliyah, Jaxon, Mason, Justice, Jazmine, & Tyler; and numerous surrogate children and grandchildren including the children in her daughters child care. She is survived by a very large extended family including sisters: Donna Pippin (Harold), Darene Apon (Phil), Lyn Leighty (Rick), Patty Kidd (Jesse). Brothers: Bill Kidd and Bob Kidd (Patricia). She is also survived by lots of friends who loved and adored her. Her children want to thank the nurses, CNA's, and Palliative Care Team at Salem Hospital who so carefully took care of our mother. We also want to thank Willamette Valley Hospice for their wonderful support during our very difficult time. 4572 | After a prolonged and keen suffering from an internal cancer, Mrs Wm Paul sen, of the 7th line of Ramsay, passed away in the opening hours of Saturday last, aged 74 years. Deceased whose maiden name was Jane Simpson, was united in marriage with Mr Paul about forty-five years ago, and during that long period won an honourable reputation as wife, mother, neighbour and friend. She was of a quiet and retiring nature, greatly devoted to her home. She had long been a member of St.?sup? John's congregation, Almonte, and in the closing hours was sustained by an unfaltering trust, regarding Death as but A kind and gentle servant who unlocks With noiseless hand Life's flower-encircled door To show us those we love. The funeral was from the homestead on Sunday afternoon. Interment taking place in the eighth line cemetery. There was a very large turnout of neighbours and friends. Rev Mr Mitchell officiated. The aged husband and four children survive - Mrs John Millions, of Hernfield, Manitoba; Miss Maggie and Aggie, at home, and Mr Wm Paul, jun, Mrs Millions and two of her children arrived from the west the day of her mother's death, but too late to see her in life. 4573 | After an illness from typhoid fever extending a little over six weeks, David Barker, son of Mr and Mrs William Barker of htis town, passed away in the rosamond Memorial hospital on sunday last, at the age of fifteen years. Deceased was never endowed with a rugged constitution with the result that he was unable to successfully combat the fever, which ultimately resulted in his death. Besides his parents he is survives by three brothers, James at Viking Saskatchewan, William at Moosomin, Sask; and Robert at Renfrew, and two sisters, Misses Mable and Viola at home. 4577 | Age 100) Alice passed away on April 21, 2011 in Spokane, WA. She was born on February 12, 1911 in Elk, Washington to Samuel & Goldie Mace. Alice spent her childhood and adult life in Elk, Deer Park, Chattaroy and Spokane. She also spent time in Canada. On October 15, 1932 she married James W. Lockhert in Opportunity, Washington. In the 1980's Alice and her husband lived in Lewiston, Idaho helping their son with the family auction business for 10 years. Alice enjoyed painting, sketching, writing poems and gardening. She also cherished visits with her family and friends. She was an avid painter and very artistic, winning various awards during the many years she participated and volunteered in the area fairs. She was also accomplished at working crossword puzzles, often doing them in ink. Alice was a member of the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed her church family and participating with their projects. Her family was able to enjoy a wonderful 100th birthday party celebrating her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on December 13, 1994 and her sister Mildred Nickerson and brother Frank Mace. Alice is survived by her son Robert E.(Paula); grandsons David L (Carrie) and Dale A.
