5054	Boyd Gate House 1870's (Age: 28) Marin, California Owned a lumberyard and build beautiful Boyd Gate House in 1870's. Came to Marin from Canada. Marin Journal Thursday, August 6, 1885 On Saturday our community was shocked in hearing of the death of Adam Murray, one of our oldest citizens. Mr. Murray was a native of Canada, aged 47 years. He came to the United States while a boy, with his father, who settled in the West. After learning the trade as a carpenter, Mr. Murray went South, and afterward came to California, settling in San Rafael, where he took a prominent position as a contractor and builder, and lumber dealer. Business prospered with him for a number of years, but of late, prices declining and competition becoming greater, Mr. Murray in part withdrew from business here, and bought a ranch in El Dorado County. It was while on a visit to this ranch that he met his death. Last Saturday afternoon, which was extremely warm, he left the ranch to go into Georgetown, riding part of the way with a neighbor, until within 1 mile of town, and then started to walk the balance of the way, when overcome by the heat he was seen to fall, and in a few minutes he was dead, without a struggle. The Odd Fellows of Georgetown (Mr. Murray being a member of that order) took charge of the body, which was brought to San Rafael on Monday, and buried on Tuesday, under charge of Marin Lodge I.O.O.F. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Arthur Crosby, who spoke of the manly qualities and large heart of Adam Murray, which had endured him to all brought in contact with him. The Odd Fellows, Carpenters, and the Fire Department were out in large numbers, presenting a fine appearance. He leaves a wife and 5 children, who have the heartfelt sympathies of all our citizens. Up till a week before her death she had been enjoying her usual good health, but on Tuesday night of last week she was smitten with a serious paralytic stroke, and was thrown into unconsciousness from which she never recovered. Her maiden name was Bridget Anne Flynn, a daughter of the late John Flynn of Huntley, and she was 51 years of age. She was married twenty-eight years ago, to Mr. D. C. Healy, who is well known hereabout, and for the past twenty years they have lived in Smith's Falls. Of the deceased, the Smith's Falls Rideau Recorder says: She was a kindly-mannered, warm hearted woman, a true helpmeet to her husband, a firm friend and a good neighbor. Because of these she was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. She was an active and valued worker in St. Francis de Sales church and a prominent member of the Altar Society and the Society of the Sacred Heart. From these societies, from the church, from the community and from the happy home of which she was the centre, she well be greatly missed. Besides her husband she leaves a family of six daughters to mourn her loss, Mrs. Tobin of Moose Jaw, Misses Rose, Edith, Lena, Sadie and Eva at home. Messrs. Michael and James Flynn of Huntley went to Smith's Falls on Wednesday, called thither by the death of their sister, Mrs. D. C. Healy, who passed away on Tuesday forenoon. Up till a week before her death she had been enjoying her usual good health, but on Tuesday night of last week she was smitten with a serious paralytic stroke, and was thrown into unconsciousness from which she never recovered. Her maiden name was Bridget Anne Flynn, a daughter of the late John Flynn of Huntley, and she was 51 years of age. She was married twenty-eight years ago, to Mr. D. C. Healy, who is well known hereabout, and for the past twenty years they have lived in Smith's Falls. Of the deceased, the Smith's Falls Rideau Recorder says: She was a kindly-mannered, warm hearted woman, a true helpmeet to her husband, a firm friend and a good neighbor. Because of these she was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. She was an active and valued worker in St. Francis de Sales church and a prominent member of the Altar Society and the Society of the Sacred Heart. From these societies, from the church, from the community and from the happy home of which she was the centre, she well be greatly missed. Besides her husband she leaves a family of six daughters to mourn her loss, Mrs. Tobin of Moose Jaw, Misses Rose, Edith, Lena, Sadie and Eva at home. The funeral takes place at 2 o'clock this Thursday afternoon in St. Francis de Sales church.
