Arnie will be lovingly remembered by his in-laws, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Arnie was a life-long farmer and a very active member of the community. He served on many local boards including Lanark Soil and Crop, Lanark Milk Committee and was a board member of Lanark Mutual. Arnie also served as an elected member of Drummond Township from 1976-1997, he served on Lanark County Council and was Lanark County warden in 1996. An immeasurable sadness has been left by his passing. Friends may visit the family at the Alan R. 5353 | Canadian Politician. He served as Member of Parliament for Yukon for 29 years and was Deputy Prime Minister 1984 to 1986. His nicknames were "Yukon Erik" and "Velcro Lips" in reference to his stonewalling of questions. Born in Regina, he was the older brother of actor Leslie Nielsen. Erik served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He flew 23 sorties with Lancaster bomber 101 Squadron plus another 33 missions as a pilot officer and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After leaving the military in 1951 and with a law degree from Dalhousie University, he set up a practice Whitehorse, Yukon. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1957 as a member of the Progressive Conservative party and never lost in subsequent elections from 1958 to 1984. Sworn to the Privy Council in 1979, he was Minister of Public Works in the brief Joe Clark government. In 1983 Mr. Nielsen was named Leader of the Opposition and later as Government House Leader. Under Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Mr. Nielsen also served as Acting Fisheries Minister, Minister of Defence and Deputy PM. He tendered his resignation from cabinet in June 1986 in fallout from the Sinclair Stevens conflict-of-interest scandal. In early 1987, he resigned his seat in parliament but continued in various public service appointments, including Chairman of the National Transportation Agency. He retired in 1992 to pursue private business interests. His autobiography, "The House Is Not a Home", was published in 1989. Son of William James Warren and Isobel Warren; husband of Ordelia Giles Warren. 1941, Thursday June 26, The Almonte Gazette front page James Warren Is Killed Overseas Young Carleton Place Man Victim of Plane Crash in England News of the first R.C.A.F. casualty from this district was received here on Friday with the deepest regret. James Warren, sergeant observer with the R.C.A.F. in England, was killed in a flying accident on Tuesday, June 17, according to a cablegram received by his wife on Friday last, from military authorities in England. The cablegram read: "Regret to inform you that your husband Sergeant Warren killed in a flying accident June 17. Aircraft of which he was an observer crashed at Wood- End Farm, Shute Devonshire. Funeral expected to take place June 21. James Warren was born in Carleton Place in 1913, a son of Mrs W.J. Warren and the late Mr Warren. He was educated in public and high schools there and completed his education at the Ottawa Normal School. Leaving Normal he taught school at Little Current, James Section near Almonte, and Middleville and at the time of his enlistment with the air force he was a member of the teaching staff of the public school at Carleton Place. He was one of the district's popular young men and was well known in sports circles throughout the Ottawa Valley. During his high school days "Jimmy" was a strong support to the football and hockey teams and was a noted badminton player. Sergeant Warren joined the R.C.A. F. on July 18, 1940, and received his wings on Feb 15, 1941. He was married on March 18 last, to the former Orrie West, daughter of W. West and the late Mrs West of Almonte and left for overseas in April. In addition to his widow, he is survived by his mother, the former Miss Isobel Snedden of Almonte. two brothers, Jack Warren of the R.C.A.F., Montreal, Bill of Carleton Place, and one sister, Miss Isobel Warren of Carleton Place. He retired apparently as well as usual Saturday night at nine o'clock and shortly before ten his daughter, noticing something wrong, rushed to his bedside and saw that he had passed away. "Deceased was born in Drummond township in the year 1838 and was thus in his 80th year. Coming to Beckwith when but three years of age, this township has been his home until his removal by death. liOn September 4th, 1878, he as married at Lyndhurst, Ont, to Ann Eliza Morris, who predeceased him nine years ago. To them were born a family of seven children, four boys and three girls. 5364 | Carol Mae Weyer, age 86, passed into her new world with Jesus Christ on January 25th, 2011. She was born in Spokane, WA on December 26th, 1924 and lived in Spokane throughout her childhood, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. On May 14th, 1948, she married William C. Weyer and began a life dedicated to raising a family. In 1958 with five children, they moved to Ravenswood, WV and there established themselves and remained until all of their children had completed their education. There were many wonderful experiences of cross-country vacations, camping, trips to Myrtle Beach and many other family centered experiences. Carol was a volunteer for Jackson General Hospital and she served as President of the Rosary Altar Society and Church Secretary at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ravenswood. She was an avid golfer, winning the local Women's Nine Hole Championship twice, and she loved sewing, painting, quilting, craft-making and bird watching. She traveled to many places including Europe and Australia and in her and her husband's retirement years they moved to Spokane and Camano Island, Washington, back to West Virginia and finally to Richmond, TX. These moves enabled them to live near each of their children and grandchildren. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Ernest Murray; two sisters, Barbara Barrett and Gwen Hedeen; and two brothers, Donald and Gordon Murray. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 62 years, William C. Weyer; daughter, Sharon C. Aune of Everett, WA; sons, Thomas E. Weyer and wife, Marci, of Ripley, WV, David A. Weyer and wife, Robin, of Nantong, China, Kevin C. Weyer and wife, Susan, of Richmond, TX, Stephen M. Michael Izen, associate pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Gertrude Mildred Awe, the daughter of Emil and Amy (James) Awe, was born on Aug. 7, 1925, in Loretto, Minn., and graduated from Elk River High School. She was a teacher at a country school in Cannon City Township, Rice County, for three years before her marriage to Ferdinand Caron on Feb. 9, 1948, at the Sacred Heart Church in Faribault. She farmed with her husband in Cannon City Township before she graduated from Mankato State University in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in special education. She was a teacher at the State Schools for mentally impaired for three years and Faribault Public Schools for nine years. Ferdinand preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1985. Trudy loved to paint, sing in the church choir, and traveled throughout the world. She also started up a Catholic singles group following her husband's death. 5383 | CAVANAGH, Thomas James June 10, 1933 ? December 5, 2019 Founder Thomas Cavanagh Construction On December 5, 2019 Tom Cavanagh came to the end of his road paved with passion and generosity. He passed peacefully and beautifully surrounded by his closest loved ones. Beloved husband of Kay (n?e Coyles) for 63 (never boring) years. Loving father of Cindy (Phil McSkimming), Lori (Jeff Davies), Jeff (Kelly), and his nephew Mike (Jane), who was like a son to him. Proud "Poppa Tom" to Jacqueline (Manoli Destounis), Amy (Reagan Evans), Holly, Patrick, Jackson, Taylor, Russell, Jordyn, and Sarah and great "Poppa Tom" to Luke, James, Gavin, Weston, and Lucy. Dear brother of Rosemary (Lloyd Cranston) and predeceased by brothers Gerald (Connie) and Terry and by parents Terrence and Marjorie (n?e McKenna). Special uncle to Larry, Tracey, Kim, the late Ken, Barbie, and Fred. Tom loved NASCAR and country music and for fun he worked. Starting with a single dump truck in 1953, he grew his company to over 800 employees, whom he considered his extended family. Tom was proud of the many people and their families that made their livelihoods with Cavanagh Construction. Tom spoke fast, drove fast, and lived fast. He was generous to a fault. Tom gave freely and without hesitation whenever he saw a need. To honour his legacy and ensure that his gift of giving is everlasting, a foundation is being established in his memory. For those of you that wish to honour him with a donation, please consider donating to the Thomas Cavanagh Foundation, continuing his commitment to community giving. Tom would disapprove, however the services will be held on a work day. Please join us in celebrating this one of a kind man at his farewell party. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 11 from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-9:00PM at the Beckwith Park (1319 9th Line Beckwith). The funeral will take place on Thursday, December 12 at 1:00PM at the same location. 5384 | Cecil Meacham Cecil Meacham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charls S. Meacham, died at the home of his parents, 606 N. Grove avenue Tuesday evening of typhoid pneumonia, after an illness of only nine days. Cecil Meacham was born in Peoria, Ill., and was aged 16 years and 4 months, having lived in Oak Park about sixteen years. He was a member of the freshman class in the high school and that class offered a tribute of beautiful flowers. He was a member of First M. E. Church and the funeral service was conducted by Rev. M. R. Williams, his pastor, the interment being at Forest Home on Thursday at 2 o'clock. Cecil was a great comfort to his parents, being of an obedient ant affectionate nature, and was popular among his schoolmates. He graduated from Central School, but owing to ill-health he lost two years of school. He was a member of the Y. M. C. A.
