6212 | From The Drumheller Mail, 3 Feb 1938, pg 3, in the "MUNSON" column: -- Death of Mr. A.M. Richardson This community was greatly shocked to learn of the death of A.M. Richardson in Edmonton last Thursday. Mr. Richardson, accompanied by Mrs. Richardson, had left Munson on the previous Friday, in his usual good spirits, and with no apparent apprehension as to the outcome of a serious cranial operation which he might have to submit to. Mr. Richardson will be greatly missed in every phase of community activity; he was an ardent church worker, having been a member of the choir for a number of years, and also was teacher of the intermediate boys' class in the Sunday School, and took a great interest in the social and sport life of the young people, and every project for the betterment of the village, while the promotion of the welfare of its citizens had his generous support. The entire district mourns the loss of this good man and deepest sympathy is offered the bereaved family. Funeral services were held in Munson United church on Monday afternoon, with Rev. F. Forster officiating, assisted by Rev. H.S. McDonald of Calgary. W.F. Lambert, Andrew Gibb, W.R. Sharpe, John Bowey, Gordon Adam and O.G. Sibbald were pall-bearers. Interment was made on Tuesday in a Calgary cemetery. Kenneth and Richard Lister, of Strome; Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Dewsbury, Michichi; Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Stowell, of Erskine; rs. C.F. Rannie, Mrs. H.S. McDonald and Mrs. J.V. Howey, of Calgary, were among the out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral of Mr. Richardson on Monday. ********* From The Drumheller Mail, 3 Feb 1938, pg 5: MR. A. M. RICHARDSON There passed away at the University Hospital at Edmonton on January 27, one of the most highly respected and popular residents of the Munson district, in the person of Arthur Melville Richardson. He was born at Apto, Ontario, on August 12, 1893, being in his forty-fifth year. He was the son of the late W.C. Richardson, latterly of Barrie, Ont. He moved with his family to Barrie in early life and attended the Collegiate in that town. For a time he was employed by Hambly Hardware Company. Mr. Richardson came to the West in 1910, filing a homestead in the Rowley district, where he continued to farm until 1925. He then joined the staff of the United Grain Growers' Ltd., and was stationed at Stavely, Queenstown and Richdale, coming to Munson in 1925, where he resided until his death. On February 1, 1915, he married Lillian Mary Russell, who with her little daughter Peggy, is left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. He also leaves on sister, Mrs. W.F. Richardson, of Rowley. Mr. Richardson was a valued and active member of the Munson United Church, being a member of the choir and a teacher in the Sunday School. During the time he was at Munson he took a very active part in the community life of the district and his talents as a singer were always in demand, and always given cheerfully. In a business way he was very highly regarded by his employers and had the confidence of those with whom he came in contact. In addition to his sorrowing relatives he leaves behind a large number who regarded him as a kind neighbor and sympathetic friend, and to the Munson district, a public spirited citizen whose passing will be deeply regretted. The funeral was conducted at the Munson United Church on Monday, the service being in charge of the Rev. Fred Forster, who was assisted by the Rev. H.S. McDonald, of Calgary, a close friend and former pastor. Mrs. K.M. Sturgeon and Mr. W.C. Cox sang very impressively, "A City Four-Square." Numerous floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held: {long list of names snipped} The pall-bearers were: Messrs. G.C. Adam, W.R. Sharpe, Andrew Gibb, O.G. Sibbald, J. Bowle and W.F. Lambert. Interment was made in the Burnsland cemetery at Calgary. Funeral arrangements at Munson were in the hands of Winter Bros.' Funeral Chapel, of Drumheller. ******** From The Drumheller Mail, 10 Feb 1938, pg 4, in the "ROWLEY" column: Mr. A.M. Richardson, a former Rowley resident, and brother of Mrs. W.F. Richardson, passed away in Edmonton after a few days' illness. Mrs. Richardson, and son Lorne, and Keith Thomson, who were en route to Edmonton, were too late to see Mr. Richardson before he passed on. Mr. W.F. Richardson went to Edmonton with Mr. and Mrs. A.M Richardson. Everything was done to prolong life, with no success. | Richardson, Arthur Melville (I26519)

6213 | From the family stories I've collected over the years Mary's mother died shortly after she was born and she was sent to live with her uncle in London, Ontario. I found an officer Gordon in the Wolseley barracks where James A Morrison was training in the infantry school corps. I can only surmise this is how they met? After James died in 1917 she moved to Lanark county to live with her son Malcolm and his family. As far as I know she taught school for a number of years in Lanark and lived out her remaining years in the DunStor lodge in Cornwall before being buried in the Woodlawn cemetery in Cornwall. Her grave is marked with a footstone which is an "M" | Gordon, Mary Ann (I17351)

6218 | From The Vancouver Sun Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 09 Jun 1949, Thu ? Page 3 DEATH came today to Dr. C. Wesley Prowd, 66, director of radiology at St. Paul's Hospital. One of British Columbias outstanding medical men, Dr C Wesley Prowd, 1412 Balfour, died early today of a heart attack. He died in St Paul's Hospital, the institution where, as director of radiology, he had battled indefatigably for cancer sufferers. He had been on St. Paul's staff for 39 years. Dr Prowd, recognized in the medical profession as the "best X-ray man in B.C.," brought the first supply of radium into the province in 1915. He was also recognized as an outstanding authority on the continent in the interpretation of X-ray pictures. Dr. Proud, who celebrated his 66th birthday only last Saturday, was taken ill Monday. Born in Ontario, he was graduated from the school of medicine, Toronto University, in 1908, and came to Vancouver at that time with three fellow graduates, Dr. G. H. Worthington, the late Dr. Walter Verral and the late Dr. G. E. Richards. Together, the four young doctors formed a clinic here and installed the first modern X-ray machine in St. Paul's Hospital in 1912. Dr. Prowd and Dr. Richards joined the hospital staff in 1910, Dr. Prowd later becoming director of radiology when Dr. Richards left for Toronto where he became professor at Toronto University and noted in cancer research before his death last year. A lover of outdoor life, Dr. Prowd was a life member and past president of the world-famous Banff Trail Riders and seldom missed a summer trail ride. He was twice president of Canadian Radiological Society; past president of Terminal City Club; member of the Vancouver Club and Point Grey Golf Club and director of the Western Life Assurance Company. He leaves his wife and two daughters, Pat and Barry, and two step-sons, Alan and William Eccles. Funeral services will be announced later. | Prowd, Dr. Charles Wesley (I41384)

6220 | From Unknown Newspaper: "Edgewood Farm, Marlboro, February 2--It is with sorrow we chronicle the calling away from amongst us of one of our oldest and most respected citizens, Mr. William Garland, whose name was fimiliar to nearly every one in th county of Carleton, passed peacefully away on the 29th January, 1892, in the 83rd year of his age. He was born in Ireland in 1809, came to Canada with his parents when 11 years old. the family consisted of 16 persons, viz. father, mother, eight sons and six daughters; each of the children upon reaching maturity married. twelve settled in the county of Carleton and two in the county of Lanark, where the scriptural injunction as complied with to multiply and replenish the earth. four of the brothers died between the ages of 82 and 84 years. "Mr. Garland chose farming as his vocation. He first settled on a farm in the township of Goulbourn. Not finding the land what he anticipated he moved to the township of North Gower, then being opened up. He secured a farm upon which he lived until 1883. At that time he and his wife feeling old age coming upon them, resolved that the care and exertion of conducting a farm was too much for them. He disposed of it and procured a house in the villiage of North Gower, to use his own words "within the shadow of the church" where he remained eight years when again the feeling overcame him that the care or even the management of a house was too much for them at their advanced age and decided to board. He found a suitable place on the farm known as "Edgewood Dairy farm" in Marlboro adjoining North Gower, owned by John Mccordick, Esq., whose wife was a favorite niece. The old homestead being built of stone, large and airy and surrounded by beautiful evergreens, they hoped to spend their summer months pleasantly, but in that they have been disappointed. Their stay with Mr. Mccordick was most agreeable, and nearly his last words were in acknowledgment of the kindness he had received. Mr. McCordick in conversation, after his death, said, that in his illness he never heard him make a complaint, that his object seemed to be to give as little trouble as possible. "The funeral was conducted from Edgewood Farm on sunday and was tehlargest seen in that locality for a long time upwards of 60 teams formed the cortege. The sad procession was led by rev. robt. Atkinson incumbent, North Gower, to the old stone built church in that village, in the shadow of which he lived for so many ears. During the half mile before reaching the church theold bell tolled forth the solemn warning that a member of this earthly habitation had been called to his heavenly home. Rev. Mr. Atkinson conducted a most impressive service. the choir sang with organ accompaniment several hymns suitable to the occasion. Rev. Mr. Atkinson, under whose charge he has been for some time, preached a most impressive sermon. His words of comfort to the sorrowing friends were such as to give hope for a glorious resurrection. His prayers for the bereaved widow, who had lost one who had been a partner for about three-score years, caused the eyes of strong men to become bedimmed with tears. Service over the peocession re-formed and wneded its solemn way to the old churchyard at Wellinfton in which stands the little white church surrounded by hundreds of white marble monuments each one telling its own story. It may be remarked that the Wellington cemetery or churchyard, as it is called, is strikingly beautiful, sloping back to the west from the high road, displaying its solemn contents to the passers-by, while close on the eastern side flows the Rideau river in its silent meanderings, serene in its peacefulness fearing, as it were, to disturb the quiet dead. "In a grave near the summit they laid him and the Rev. Mr. Atkinson, who travelled these long miles over bad roads, was at this post to perform the last rites of the church, which he did most solemnly, while around the grave for the time it took to offer up his solemn offering of hopeful words every head remained uncovered and silent awe prevailed." | Garland, William James (I6783)

6242 | G. Caskey: Robert, the 3rd oldest of the family, came to Canada with his mother and father when they immigrated to Canada in 1845. Very little if anything is known of them other than the fact that they must have had a hard life, much the same as many others who pioneered this country. We know only that Robert died at the age of 31 yrs, his father died at the age of 49. Descendents of his father have lived to ages of upward of 90 years. However it is interesting to note that around the time of Robert's death the family seems to have split up and gone their separate ways. (3 Jan 1990) | Caskey, Robert (I2760)
