8655 | Nicholas Scharfe, one of the Capital's most constand churchgoers and a member of the Wesleynn Methodist church, passed away suddenly yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs C.B. Moses of 27 Warren avenue. He was in his 90th year. He was born in Hazeldean, a son of John Scharfe and Ann James. He founded a carriage and furniture building business in Carp and successfully pursued his trade there for many years. He was married before the turn of the century to Mary Ann Stanley who died in 1910. In 1913, he married Mary Ann Casselman of Williamsburg, who predeceased him in 1939. Surviving are one son, Hartley; four daugthers, Mrs W.A. Bond, Mrs C.B. Moses, Miss Elizabeth Scharfe and Mrs J.W. Smith, all of Ottawa; three brothers, John James of Vancouver; and Allen and Fred, Moose Jaw. Rev. S.W. Blanchard will conduct the funeral service in the chapel of Hulse and Playfair, Saturday afternoon. Interment will in be Huntley cemetery. 8656 | NIELSEN, Shelley Nancy (Nee Coxford) Shelley died peacefully on September 12, 2014, at the age of 64, at Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, British Columbia. She is predeceased by her husband Erik Nielsen, father Howard Coxford, mother Rita Coxford, and brother Laine Coxford. Shelley is survived by her stepson Lee Nielsen, her stepdaughter Roxanne Temple, husband Scott, and her step grandchildren Erik, Tori, and Thea of Ottawa, Ontario, her stepson Rick Nielsen and wife Maureen and her step grandchildren Connor, Kai, and Brooke of Whitehorse, Yukon. She is also survived by her brother Happy Coxford, wife Gloria of Victoria, British Columbia, and nieces Riley and Maddy Coxford. She will be greatly missed by her four footed kids Ali and Belle and by her many good friends. Cremation has taken place and at Shelley's request there will be no service. Loving sister of Harry (Sheena) Talbot and the late Doris Botham. Norma will be fondly remembered by her cherished friend and companion Carl Guilmette. 8679 | Norman, beloved husband of Doris (nee Jones) passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake. Norman was born at Kiwana, (near Kinosota Manitoba) on May 15, 1923, the son of Phillip and Susan (Cameron). Norman was predeceased by his brothers Robert, Paul and Eddie, his two sisters Laura and Florence, and his grandson Kevin Clark. Norman's family moved to Boissevain where he was educated and worked on farms until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery (Q.O.C.H. of C) in 1941. He just missed being sent to Hong Kong, went to Europe instead and was wounded in action in France. Returning to Canada in 1945, Norman worked with the Dring Brothers of Boissevain before joining Manitoba Hydro where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Norman married Doris Jones on June 26, 1947 and they were blessed with three sons and a daughter. While working with Manitoba Hydro Norm served in several Manitoba communities: Boissevain, McCreary, Carberry, Hartney and Winnipeg. Norm retired to Kincardine Ontario and recently Norm and Doris returned to their prairie roots. Dad joined the Boy Scouts in 1938 and throughout his life worked with youth. He was a cub master and a scout master turning out three Queen Scouts. Dad taught Sunday School, coached sports teams, and was actively involved in the community: Masons, Oddfellows; volunteer fire departments; municipal council; and the Legion. Dad enjoyed time with his kids and his grandchildren. He loved camping; cards; all sports (Go Leafs Go), and traveling. He was a Mr. Fixit and tackled any project. Left to cherish his memory are Doris his loving wife of 61 years; four children: Murray (Patricia) of Shoal Lake; Joanne Barry (Chris) of Shoal Lake; Dan (Ann) of Brampton Ontario; Terry (Donna) of Calgary; 9 grandchildren: Denise Benton (James) of Elva, MB; Kathy Purdy (Tim McWhirter) of Shoal Lake; Meghan Brydges (Matt) of London ON; Jon Barry (Kristy) of Edmonton; Shirley March (David) of Toronto; Greg of Brampton; Ashley of Toronto; Darryl of Edmonton; and Kevin (deceased); 8 great grandchildren; his sisters and brother in-law: Muriel Clark of Boissevain; Doreen Hazelwood of Langley; Ada and Clarence "Red" Jones of Napinka; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Norman's life was held at the Redpath Funeral Home Melita, MB. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 2:00 pm. 8684 | North Shore C 17 Jun 1977 Longtime Resident Deceased A resident of North Vancouver for 32 years, James Edgar Duncan died in Lion's Gate Hospital June 10 in his 81st. year. Mr. Duncan was with the Greater Vancouver Water District from 1945, when he came to North Vancouver, until his retirement in 1962. He was an active worker in North Lonsdale United Church and in the Sunday School for many years. He was a veteran of the First World War, having enlisted with the 202nd. Battalion of Edmonton and later serving with the 50th. Battalion. UM Grad After the war he resumed his studies in electrical engineering at the University of Alberta and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1923. Following his graduation he became interested in geophysics and was one of the early geophysical prospectors, first in the Gulf states and later in Alberta and northern Ontario. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Gilbert of Winnipeg, two daughters, Mrs. A. B. (Kay) Furniss of North Vancouver and Mrs. R. G. (Margaret) von Tigerstrom of Edmonton, a brother, Brock Duncan of Medicine Hat, Alta., five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He had been ailing for some time. The late Mr. Kerfoot was born in 1846 in Montagu Township, County of lanark, and went to Minesing as a young man. He followed farming practically all his life, retiring from business only about a year ago. For a number of years he sat in Vespra Council and always took a keen interest in local affairs. he was active in Methodist Church circles and in Sunday School work, in which spheres of duty his death will create a void not easily filled. In politics he was a consistent Liberal. The funeral on Sat. afternoon to Minesing church and cemetery was one of the largest seen in that community. The sacred edifice was crowded to the doors. Rev. Predeceased by parents, Frank and Dulcie (nee Vear) Peever and brother Barry of Manooth, Ontario. Loving wife of Terry. Dear mother of Allen and his wife Angela and Cynthia and her partner Angela. Cherished grandmother of Courtney. Brenda spent much of her time serving her community as a member of Duke of Kent Rebekah Lodge. She was also a dedicated member of the Northumberland Hills Hospital Auxiliary and was an active participant in the Red Hat Society. Her friendly caring and kind demeanor will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
