Cram Dies Suddenly at Ottawa The sad news of the passing of Laura Elizabeth Cram, eldest daughter of the late Daniel and Mrs. Cram of Glen Isle , came as a great shock to her relatives and many friends here. On completing her education at Taber?s Business College and later graduating from Scranton Art School, of Chicago, she was employed in the Civil Service in Ottawa. From there she went to Cleveland where she continued her studies in the Jno. Huntington School of Art, while she did stenographic work. At the time of her passing she was employed by the War Assets Dept., Ottawa, where last Thursday she suffered a severe heart attack and passed away in the Civic Hospital in the late afternoon. Miss Cram was of an aesthetic nature and had a keen appreciation for all that was beautiful in life, material things were entirely secondary to her. She loved people in all walks of life. Her lilting laughter and bright cheerfulness will be sadly missed by all her loved ones. The funeral from the home of her brother John Watt, Glen Isle, was conducted by Rev. Anthony, of Carleton Place, Baptist church, of which she was a member. She leaves to mourn her loss 3 sisters, Jessie ( Mrs. W. M. Wilkinson, Oakville; Mrs. Ben Gube, Cleveland, Ohio; Florence, Mrs. Harwood McCreary of Carleton Place; and four brothers, R. Glen, of Three Hills, Alta., Wm. H. of Brockville; John W. and D. 8825 | Obituary of Margaret Schmidt It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Margaret Schmidt. She was born July 23,1943 and departed this life on December 6, 2018. Margaret was the youngest child of Valentine and Ilene Geres, and a sister to Walter and Bill. On August 4, 1962, Margaret married David Schmidt of the Palmer area. Later Margaret and Dave welcomed 3 children to their family, Kory, Kim and Charlene. Margaret lived on the farm north of Palmer with Dave until his passing on February 26, 1993. In the summer of 1995, she moved to Gravelbourg and worked at the Thomson Lake Golf course for a number of years. One of Margaret's great loves besides family was bowling. She was an avid bowler, bowling from the time the lanes opened in Gravelbourg. She was a master bowler and coach over the years. If her knees had not given out on her, she would have been bowling until she became ill. In 2010, Margaret moved to the Meacham area to live with Charlene and her family, where she remained until her health declined, resulting in her stay at the hospital in Saskatoon and later Humboldt, where she was until her passing. Margaret is survived by her children Kory (Cristiano), Kim (Rhonda), Charlene (Darren), her grandchildren Amanda, Derrek, Wyatt, Kercher, Kylan, Leland, great grandson Kyran, and great granddaughter Willow (who had not yet arrived). She is predeceased by her husband David, parents Valentine and Ilene, brothers Walter and Bill, mother and father-in-law Philp and Margaret Schmidt and sister-in-law Elsie. 8828 | Obituary Transcript January 28 - Mr. John Garland died at his residence on the 11th line of Goulburn on the 26th inst. Deceased was well known in the county, being of such a disposition as to make and hold friends. He was a man of powerful physique, standing over six feet in height, and weighing over 250 pounds. In politics he was an ardent Conservative, until the Jesuit question came up, when he endorsed the Equal Rights platform. His parents were among the first settlers of the township of Goulburn, his mother dying about two months ago, at the advanced age of 93 years. Four daughters and one son are left to mourn over his demise. His popularity as a citizen was evidenced by over 100 vehicles attending his funeral, the services of which were conducted by Rev. She married Ronald Symon Robertson in 1938. They lived in Dryden, Ont., for some years before moving to B.C. finally settling in Vernon in 1964. Cyntha will be remembered for her dedication to the United Church. She is survived by her son Jack and his wife Barbara of Nelson, grandson Kim and his wife Sandra and their sons, Connor and Shane of Port Coquitlam, and granddaughter Kathy of New Westminster. She was predeceased by her husband Ron in 1983 while holidaying in his native Scotland. Cremation has taken place. Deceased was born in the Township of Elizabethtown eighty-seven years ago. In 1860 he was united in marriage to Jane Kennedy of Oxford, by Rev. Jas. Harris of Kemptville, who predeceased him six years ago. The late Mr. Tackaberry is survived by two sons and two daughters, namely: Mrs. Thomas McClenaghan and Mr. H.D. Tackaberry, Kemptville; Mrs. Wm Patterson, Oxford Mills; and Mr. John F. Tackaberry, Smiths falls. Three sisters also survive him, namely: Mrs. John Patterson, Kemptville; Mrs. Barnard of Oxford Mills; and Miss Margaret of Brockville. Mr. Tackaberry, at the time of his marriage in 1860, settled in Oxford Mills where he resided continuously until the death of his wife six years ago. Since that time he has resided with his daughter, Mrs. McClenaghan, in Kemptville. Mr. Tackaberry was a man of quiet unassuming manner and was highly respected by both old and young. 8846 | OBITUARY: ABRAHAM CODE June 11th, 1891 Rideau Record: One by one the pioneer settlers of this country are laid low by the hand of death and called away from the scenes and the associations as familiar and dear to them. The latest to obey the summons in this district is Mr. Abraham Code, who died at his home in Montague on Friday, after a lingering illness of several months. He had reached the ripe old age of 74 years and as were his years so was the esteem in which he was held by all his wide circle of acquaintances. He was buried on Sunday and his funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Smith's Falls. 117 vehicles as is said being in line. 8847 | Obituary: Kit Richard Carstensen Surrounded by his loving family, Kit R. Carstensen, 69, passed away at home June 27, 2014, at 5:36a.m., following his courageous battle with cancer. Kit was the son of the late C.E. (Clarence) and Helen D. Carstensen (Goodhand). He is survived by his wife, Merri J. Carstensen (Allison); son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Melinda of Raymond, OH; daughter and son-in-law Mischlynne and Michael Vollrath of Marysville, OH; step-daughter and son-in-law Kimberly (Slover) and Jonathan of Floyd County, VA; six grandchildren, Justin and partner Courtnee, Kasey, Kadie, Megan, Matthew, and Gus; two great grandchildren, Ava and Rowan; two brothers and their wives, David and Lordice of Corona, CA, and Richard and Carol of Sidney, OH.; and his Sheltie, Mya. In 1963 Kit graduated from Troy High School and attended the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University, ultimately earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Wright State later in life. Kit proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1971. He was a Vietnam Veteran. As a civilian he worked in mechanical engineering at various places, including Hobart, Goodrich, and Interflex in Troy, OH. He worked for Boyd Coddington (Boyd's Billet Wheels) in California, feeding his love of hotrods and muscle cars. His interest in airplanes took him to McDonnell Douglas in California and on to Boeing in the state of Washington. In 1991 Kit and Merri ventured to Alaska where they assumed management of a family automotive business, fed Kit's passion for fishing and the great outdoors, and made their home for 20 years. In 2011 Kit and Merri retired to Troy, Ohio, to be near family and friends, a decision that could not have been timelier. Memorial services with military honors presented by Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Baird Funeral Home of Troy, Ohio, Reverend John Shelton officiating. 8848 | Obituary: Mrs. Andrew Kirk Final tribute to the memory of Mrs Andrew Kirk was paid by her many friends at the funeral which was held on Sunday afternoon from her late residence, corner of Martin and Edward Streets, to St. John's Presbyterian Church and Auld Kirk cemetery for burial. The funeral service was conducted by her pastor Rev A.J. Fowlie and favourite hymns of the deceased were sung by the choir. The pallbearers were Messrs George Arnott, William Templeman, Lloyd Watson, Jack Gilmour, George Lowry and Alie Stewart. The many floral tributes showed the high esteem in which she was held. Although she was in poor health for the past year her death at her home last Thursday morning came as a great shock to her many friends. She was a devoted member of of the choir and Ladies' Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church and she will be greatly missed by these organizations. Born in Ramsay, 49 years ago, she was the second daughter of Mr and Mrs William Armstrong. She married Andrew Kirk, 23 years ago, and since then has made her home in Almonte. Left to mourn besides her husband and son Melville, are her parents, two sisters, Mrs Wesley McCann of Pakenham and Miss Jessie Armstrong at home and one brother, James of Brockville. 8849 | Obituary: Mrs. Herb Coxford A long time resident of Almonte, Sarah Ila Scott Coxford passed away at the Almonte Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness, on Monday November 4th. in her 88th year. Born at clayton, Ontario, on April 12th 1887, she was the eldest daughter of William Henry Scott and Rachel Evans. Several years later the family moved to Almonte. In 1910 she married Herbert L. Coxford, of Almonte, who predeceased her in 1964. She was a member of Almonte United Church and in her younger years took part in many organizations of the Church. She is survived by one son, and three daughters: Edwin, winnipeg; elizabeth (Mrs R. Duncan), Almonte; Kathleen (Mrs C. M. Thomson) Mississauga; Ruth. (Mrs K. Fresque), Ottawa; and twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Surviving is a sister, Bessie (Mrs George Van Iderstine), Saskatoon. Four brothers and one sister predeceaseed her, Harvey, Eddie, Alston, James and Lucy (Mrs Frank Snow) the funeral was held November 6th, 1974, from the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte, rev Robert McCrea of the Almonte United Church conducted the service.
