  (Research):From Memories Along the Badger Revisited: James Stirton was a carpenter at Old Cartwright in the early 1880's. He and Jack McKibbin were the ferry men at Badger Creek before the bridge was built and were kept very busy. He built the first bridge across Badger Creek and also built the Pacific Hotel (better known as the Orphans' Home). He also constructed well pumps of birch, using oak for the cylinder rod. His wife was a sister of Bob (Robert) and Dave Duncan. Mr. Stirton was the auditor for the Badger Creek School from 1884 to 1887. Married Agnes Duncan in 1886 and must have relocated to Munroe, Washington, USA shortly thereafter. They became Naturalized US Citizens in 1890.
