- E.L. "Nif" Sullivan died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Boise, Idaho May 22, 1925, the youngest child of Willis E. Sullivan and Helen T. Sullivan. His father had nicknamed him Nifty Ed, but his youngest sister unable to say all of that, shortened it to Nif. Nif graduated from Boise High School in 1943, and entered the service in September as an aviation cadet. He executed his right to release in 1945 and returned to Boise. He entered Stanford University in the winter of 1946, and transferred to Wharton School of Business, a branch of the University of Pennsylvania. While attending school he pledged Sigma Chi, and worked at the Franklin Institute planetarium. Nif graduated in 1949 with degrees in insurance and accounting. Returning to Boise his first business adventure with E.G. Day and Company was to develop the Cherry Lane neighborhood. In 1955 he joined National Cash Register obtaining experience in sales. He joined Continental Life Insurance while P.G. Batt was president in 1956 as salesman in the life insurance department. Nif helped form the Life and Accidental policy for State of Idaho employees in 1957. In 1960 he joined Campbell & Company as an independent agent, head of the life and group department. He retired in 1981. Other business adventures included investing in The Idaho Candy Company and Statewide Stores with long time friends. While attending Wharton School, he married Shirley Purcell from Boise and together had four children, Braden Kip (Sandy) Sullivan, Cindy (Tony) Maher, Brett Sullivan, and Mark Sullivan. Nif and Shirley were divorced in 1969. In 1977 he married Suzanne Code Hudelson and she has four children, Mikel (John) Ward, Midge (Jay) Moore, Chris (David) Green, and Tony (Clarice) Hudelson. Nif and Suzanne had a wonderful time traveling the world and experiencing many interesting sights. They loved to entertain their friends, and one of Nif s favorite past times was eating the many magnificent meals Sue cooked for him. Nif was a man of life and laughter and had many long time friends. He loved interacting with people, and thoroughly enjoyed fly-fishing at Silver Creek, hunting, tennis, and golf. He helped in the founding of the Boise Swim and Racquet Club, and served on the building and funding committees for All Saints Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Arid Club. Nif was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Willis Sullivan II; his sisters, Helen Wells; and Marion Fletcher; his nephew Willis Sullivan III; and grandchildren Shannon Murphy; and Nick Maher. His 4 children, Suzanne and her 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren survive him. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at All Saints Episcopal Church, located at 704 S. Latah, under the direction of Summers Funeral Home.
