Double Funeral of Wellknown Almonte Couple Held Tuesday
Coming immediately after the death of her husband two days earlier, Almonte and community were shocked to learn of the sudden death on Sunday, January 12th, at noon, of Mrs William McKenzie Young, 87 year old resident of Almonte who came here with her family when she was just a girl of 13 years. Mrs Young died at the Molina Nursing Home, Almonte, having never fully recovering from a fall she had a very short time ago. She was born in Kenmore, Perthshire, Scotland. She received her early education in Scotland and came here with her parents. Mrs Young was a daughter of the late Donald Campbell and his wife, the former Christina McPherson and her maiden name was Isabella Campbell, and she was twice married. In 1900 she married Alex Naismith Young of Almonte who died in 1926. To this marriage was born two sons, Dr Donald A. Young of Ottawa, and another son, deceased. In 1931 she married William McKenzie Young, brother of her first husband and he died just two days before her, on Jan 10th. No children were born to this union. Of her, immediate family left to mourn her loss is her son, by first marriage, Dr Donald A. Young of Ottawa along with two grandchildren, Kenneth and Deborah of Ottawa. She was a member of the Almonte United Church and former member of East Jefferson United Church, Detroit, Michigan. Also left to mourn her loss are two sisters, Mary Campbell of Vancouver, B.C., and Mrs J. McPhail (Jessie) of Guelph, Ont; two brothers, Duncan and Dugald of Vancouver, B.C. Mrs Young's funeral was held from the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home at the same time as that of her husband on Tuesday, Jan 14th to the Almonte United Church where the double funeral service was conducted by the pastor, Rev J. Ray Anderson. Both Mr and Mrs Young were buried together in Auld Kirk Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan 14th......
