- Obituary: Kit Richard Carstensen
Surrounded by his loving family, Kit R. Carstensen, 69, passed away at home June 27, 2014, at 5:36a.m., following his courageous battle with cancer. Kit was the son of the late C.E. (Clarence) and Helen D. Carstensen (Goodhand). He is survived by his wife, Merri J. Carstensen (Allison); son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Melinda of Raymond, OH; daughter and son-in-law Mischlynne and Michael Vollrath of Marysville, OH; step-daughter and son-in-law Kimberly (Slover) and Jonathan of Floyd County, VA; six grandchildren, Justin and partner Courtnee, Kasey, Kadie, Megan, Matthew, and Gus; two great grandchildren, Ava and Rowan; two brothers and their wives, David and Lordice of Corona, CA, and Richard and Carol of Sidney, OH.; and his Sheltie, Mya. In 1963 Kit graduated from Troy High School and attended the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University, ultimately earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Wright State later in life. Kit proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1971. He was a Vietnam Veteran. As a civilian he worked in mechanical engineering at various places, including Hobart, Goodrich, and Interflex in Troy, OH. He worked for Boyd Coddington (Boyd's Billet Wheels) in California, feeding his love of hotrods and muscle cars. His interest in airplanes took him to McDonnell Douglas in California and on to Boeing in the state of Washington. In 1991 Kit and Merri ventured to Alaska where they assumed management of a family automotive business, fed Kit's passion for fishing and the great outdoors, and made their home for 20 years. In 2011 Kit and Merri retired to Troy, Ohio, to be near family and friends, a decision that could not have been timelier. Memorial services with military honors presented by Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Baird Funeral Home of Troy, Ohio, Reverend John Shelton officiating.
