Dr. Robert (RT) Thompson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Robert (RT) Thompson, age 70, of Sackville. Bob passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011.
Born in Almonte, ON, he was a son of the late George and Edith (Turley) Thompson.
Bob grew up in Almonte, ON, earned an undergraduate degree from Queen's University, then went on to Simon Fraser University where he received a MSc; SFU's very first graduate! He remained there to complete his PhD and moved to Sackville, NB in 1969 to work at Mount Allison University as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Biology Department eventually achieving the rank of full professor. He had a passion for teaching and was honoured to receive the Herbert and Leota Tucker Teaching Award in 1996. He spent his whole career at Mount Allison even teaching a few courses after becoming Professor Emeritus.
He was an active member of the St. Paul's Anglican Church. He loved to spend time reading, solving crossword puzzles and sudokus, sketching and drawing....especially pictures of his grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife Pat, Sackville, children Sarah (Jim Winterbottom) Thompson, St. Catharines, ON, Ruth (Patty Gollogly) Thompson, Ottawa, ON, Erin (Jamie) MacKay, Toronto, Brian (Krista Steeves), Toronto; 7 grandchildren, Amelia, Alex, Chl?e, Beck, Beth, Luke, and Kate; sister Marg Stanford, Wellington, ON.
He was predeceased by two infant sisters, Elizabeth and Barbara Ann.
Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, N.B. (506-364-1300), where visiting hours took place on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul's Anglican Church on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m., Rev. Father Kevin Stockall officiating.
