  	William Garland Kidd was the son of John Kidd and his wife Margaret Garland. He married Lenora McGrath around 1861. William and Lenora had 4 children: Margaret Jane "Minnie" Kidd born March 22, 1862 John Franklin Kidd born January 26, 1864 Ida Marie Kidd born February 28, 1868 William Kidd born April 3, 1870 William Garland Kidd began his teaching career in 1855 in Lanark County, Ontario. In 1956, he was teaching at a school near Walkerton, Ontario. He returned to school himself and graduated from the Toronto Normal School in 1859. From there, he went to Fergus, Ontario where he eventually was in charge of the school there. In 1872 he received his certificate as an Inspector from the Board of Examiners, enabling him to become an Inspector of Schools in Ontario. Not long after, William and his family moved to Kingston, Ontario where William was employed as the principal first at Johnson Street School and then at the Wellington Street School, Kingston, Ontario. Around 1875, William became the Inspector of Schools for theKingston/Frontenac area. William retired in 1909.
