after cycle crash
DALLAS?/b? David D. Kidd, 56, of 1160 Fairview Ave., a former candidate for the Oregon Legislature and a well-known former Salem resident, died Friday when his motorcycle, crashed in the 3300 block of Silverton Road in Salem. An autopsy was scheduled today to . determine whether Kidd died as a result of injuries or of a heart attack. His wife, Margie, said he had a history of heart trouble. A native of McMinnville, Kidd lived in Portland, Silver-ton, Salemand a number of Oregon cities before coming here in 1973. For many years he was in law enforcement including service with the Multnomah County sheriff's department, assistant police chief at Harrisburg and chief of police at Florence, He also had been employed as a State of Oregon weigh-master for five years and for the last three years was employed by Salem Escort Service, a motorcycle unit that escorts funeral processions. He was en route to Salem from Silverton Cemetery at the time of the accident. An active member of the Democratic Party, Kidd- ran unsuccessfully for the Oregon Legislature in 1964, 1966 and 1972. His civic activities, included membership in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic, Church and Salem Breakfast , Optimist Club, of which he was president. He also was an active supporter and worker with the Flamingo Drum ' and Bugle Corps of Oregon, a Salem youth activity. Survivors include his widow, Margie, Dallas; seven daughters, Dorothy McKey and Diane Goetz, both of Salem, Donna Schiedler, Mt. Angel, Beth and Linda Kidd, both of Portland, and Patty and Lynn Kidd, both of Dallas; three sons, Bob, Dallas, William Thomas, with the Air Force at - Chanute AFB, 111., and Donald, Springfield; his father, Frank W. Kidd, Salem, and 14 grandchildren. Services are pending at Rigdon-Ransom Colonial Chapel, Salem.
