John James Johnson, one of Almonte's nonagenarians passed away at the home of his son, Mr Kenneth Johnson, Malcolm Street, on June 23 in his 91st year. Born at Cedar Hill, he was a son of the late John James Johnson. He lived in the Cedar Hill district until he was about 30 years of age when he moved to Almonte where he has resided ever since. In 1900 he married Miss Mary Jane McKittrick also of Cedar Hill who passed away several years ago. Mr Johnson was employed at the Almonte Knitting Company until ill health forced his retirement. Since that time he lived quietly and took great pleasure in gardening. He appeared to be in his usual health and his death at this time was unexpected. He was a member of Almonte Presbyterian Church. He leaves one daughter, Viola, Mrs C.R. Hodge, Smiths Falls; two sons, Kenneth and Delmer of Almonte, one grandson Donald Johnson of Smiths Falls and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Elsie, Mrs F.E. Jackson of Busby, Alta and one brother Allan of Carleton Place. The pallbearers were Messrs Carson Johnson, Eric Johnson, Douglas Heise, Arthur Landry, James Brown and Wm Blakeley. Rev D. Leslie Elder, minister of Almonte Presbyterian Church officiated. Among the beautiful floral tributes were tokens from the Heather Club and the W.M.S Presbyterian Church, Almonte General Hospital, Almonte Public Utilities Employees and D.P. Johnson's Employees Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
