Dr John H. Paterson
Dr John H. Paterson, of Bow Island, Alta., died on Saturday at Medicine Hat following an operation. An elder brother was with him when he died. The remains were interred with those of his wife at Bow Island. The late Dr. Paterson was a son of the late Mr and Mrs William Paterson, of Ramsay. He was educated at Almonte High School and proceeded to McGill University, where he graduated in medicine about twelve years ago. Immediately after his graduation he went west and settled in Bow Island, in the province of Alberta. He became a very successful practitioner and was recognized as the leading citizen of the place. While he was a student at McGill he underwent an operation for appendicitis, from the effects of which he never fully recovered, although the operation after which he died was performed to remedy a stomach trouble. He lived only a week. He had been passing through Medicine Hat to have a yachting holiday on a cruser on the Pacific coast which he had purchased. His brother, R.M., who was a merchant in Luseland, had hope to be able to join him. Six years ago Dr. Paterson visited his old home here and he had expected to be here again for the Old Boys' Reunion at the end of July. Besides his brother in the west, he is survived by three brothers, W.C. and G.E. are farmers in Ramsay, and Thomas R. is the well known dentist of Almonte. The late Dr. Paterson's wife was a Port Dalhousie girl. She died about two years ago.
