  	One of this districts best known and most hightly esteemed women died on Monday in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital here, in the person of Amy Coulter Steele, widow of the late John Steele. Mrs Steele had been in failing health for some time and her condition had been grave for several weeks prior to her death. She will be deeply missed by her family and scores of acquaintances who held her in highest esteem for her many endearing qualities of mind and heart. Mrs Steele was prominent in the social life of the district and had been active in a number of women's organizationsand for some years held prominent office in the Women's Institute. The deceased who was in her 72nd year, was born in Clayton, but spent her early life in Almonte. Before her marriage to the late John Steele of Ramsay Township, the late Mrs Steele taught in the Public School, here. She was predeceased by her husband last year. One son, Alex, died in 1910 and one daughter, May in 1922. The deceased leaves to mourn her loss three sons - Arthur, of Dominion Live Stock Branch at present stationed in Lawrencetown, N.S. Ernest with the Canada Power and Paper Co., of St. Raymond, Quebec, and James on the homestead, 8th line Ramsay, which has been the home of the Steele family for over seventy years. two daughters, Lou, Public Health Nurse, of Woodfield, Ohio, and Beth, Mrs Hal Kirkland of Valois, Quebec. Two sisters, Clara, Mrs Dr Sparling of Pembroke, Ont, and Beatrice of Ottawa. The funeral was held on Wednesday from the family residence, 8th line Ramsay, to the Auld Kirk cemetery. The large attendance of relatives and friends and many floral tributes testifying to the esteem in which she was held. The service was conducted by Rev J.J. Lowe, of St Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte. The chief mourners were her three sons, Arthur, Ernest and James, two daughters. Lou and Beth (Mrs Hal Kirkland), and two sisters clara (Mrs Dr. sparling) and Beatrice. The pallbearers were: Messrs Albert Naismith and John McGill of Ramsay, Max Smith of Pakenham and W.C. Pollock, Joseph Paul and John Lindsay of Almmonte. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr Max Smith, Pakenham; Mrs S.F. Cox, Mr and Mrs Hal Kirkland, Valois, Quebec; Mr Alan Coulter, Ottawa; Mrs Frank Coulter, Ottawa; Mrs Alice Bowland, Clayton; Mrs Jno Lawrencetown, N.S.; Ernest Steele Sparling and Dr. and Mrs Sparling, of Pembroke; Arthur Steele, St. Raymond, Quebec; Miss Lou Steele, Woodfield, Ohio; Miss Beatrice Coulter, Ottawa; Mrs McLean, Edmonton, and Mr and Mrs Fulton, Pakenham.
