  	Die on the Red Sea on his way from India back to Canada at age 74. 1928, Friday May 4, The Almonte Gazette front page ?b?Dr. John Wilkie Dies On Red Sea?/b? Presbyterian Missionary Who Spent Half a Century In Work in China Rev. Dr. John Wilkie, Presbyterian missionary at Jhansi, British India, died on Wednesday of last week while on his way home to Canada. He was 77 years of age. Dr. Wilkie had not been in good health for some time. Some weeks ago, he had intended sailing, but found himself not well enough to travel. Later he sailed from Bombay in the "City of Paris". While the vessel was in the Red Sea he died. Mrs Wilkie, who is a sister of Mr. John Neilson and Miss Neilson, of Almonte, was with him. The late Dr. Wilkie was born in Scotland. he taught school in Almonte. In 1879 he went as a missionary to Indore, India, where he remained until 15 years ago when he went to Jhansi. He is survived by his widow, four children, Harry Wilkie of Allahabad, India, William of Detroit, Mrs Arthur Brown of Toronto, and Mrs Graham Mitchell of Melbourne, Australia. The widow of one son, Jno., who died several years ago, and a daughter of the late Rev Dr. Logan Geggie, resides in Toronto. One brother, and three sisters, Mrs Isabella Johnston, Mrs W.J. Anderson and Miss Helen Wilkie, all of Toronto, also survive.
