    (Research):Information from Jayne Munro-Ouimet: Ann Stead Munro went west with her son William and her daughter Mary Margaret they settled in Manitoba and that is where she died and is buried. I was honoured to visit Pilot Mound and to meet a number of her family descendants. I was given copies of photos and family history recordings, copies of birth, marriages and death certificates. Ann was a great historian and could write, so many family details come from her.

He had reached the age of 85 years and 3 months, and during his lifetime was seldom seriously ill, but for a few years his heart had caused him uneasiness and his sudden demise was due to this weakness when walking around the home. Mr. Rodger was married to Ellen Miller in the year, 1875, and to this union there was a family of five daughters and three sons, Jessie A., Mrs. Charles Ramsbottom, Lanark; Harry L., Maggie, Mrs. Finlay Ramsbottom, Ferguson's, Falls; William S. of Almonte; Nellie, Mrs. Welland McKay of Ramsay; James of Almonte; Edna, Mrs. Robert Woods of Arklan; Eva, Mrs. Wm. Rintoul. Galbraith. The large funeral services Sunday afternoon were conducted at the home of Mrs. Finlay Ramsbottom, thence to United church Middleville, by the pastors, Rev. Snelgrove and Rev. McLean of Lanark. The six grandsons who acted as pallbearers were: James and John Rodger, John Rintoul, Wilbert McKay, Lloyd Ramsbottom, Roy Rodger and four grand-daughters were flower bearers, Eleanor Rintoul, Mildred and Margaret Ramsbottom and Ella Rodger. Another nephew Mr. Geo. Rodger was requested to sing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."

    William S. Rodger
    The death occurred suddenly on Monday, May 4th of Mr Wm S. Rodger of Almonte. Mr Rodger who was in his 83rd year was working in his garden when he suffered a severe heart attack. He had been a resident of Almonte for the past 35 years. Until his retirement about five years ago, he served as a rural mail carrier. Mr Rodger was born at Middleville, the son of the late Mr and Mrs James H. Rodger. Of a family of 8, two sisters survive, Eva, Mrs Wm Rintoul of Drummond and Edna, Mrs Robert Woods of Ashton. Mr Rodger was twice married. His first wife, Caroline Somerville, died in 1935. His second wife, Susan Parker died in 1950. He is survived by one daughter, Ethel, Mrs Harry Metcalfe of Almonte; a step-daughter, Lorna, Mrs Desse Brown on Montreal and three grand-children, Rae Metcalfe of Ottawa, Bob and Cindy Metcalfe of Almonte. The funeral was held on Wednesday from the Comba Funeral Home with interment in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The Reverend D. Leslie Elder conducted the service. There is also a brother, William of Almonte; three sisters, Jessie, Mrs Chas Ramsbottom of Smiths Falls; Eva, Mrs Wm Rintoul of Innisville; Edna, Mrs Wm Woods of Lanark, and nine grandchildren. Mr Rodger was a farmer nearly all his life. First, as a young man he farmed in the Galbraith section and later on the 9th line of Ramsay Township where Mr John Brydges now lives and until he retired eleven years ago, on the farm occupied by his son, Roy, on the 9th line. The Rev Jas M. Ritchie of Almonte Presbyterian Church officiated and the remains were placed in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault. The pallbearers were Messrs W.A. Metcalfe, Jas Metcalfe, John R. Reid, Ernest Robertson, Lloyd Watson and Lester Jamieson. Among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from Metcalfe's Dairy; M.P. Coderre and Metcalfe's Construction.

    Ethel Catherine Metcalfe
    Ethel Catherine Metcalfe passed away at the Almonte General Hospital May 2 after a lengthy illness. She was 80- years-old. Mrs. Metcalfe, predeceased by her parents, William S. and Carrie Rodger, was born September 10, 1918 in Middleville. She married Harry Robert Metcalfe on April 10, 1941 in Almonte. Mrs. Metcalfe is survived by her three children; Robert, of Munster, Rae Fortington of Almonte and Cindy Edmonds of Clayton. The funeral was held May 5 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lyle Sams presiding.     Annie Andrews died March 3 in the Almonte General Hospital following a six week illness. She was 82. She was born Annie Rodger in Galbraith Jan 29, 1910 daughter to the late James Rodger and the late Harriet McKay, both of Galbraith. She married the late David Andrews Nov 5, 1930 in Almonte. Mrs Andrews lived in this area for 65 years. She is survived by sons Raymond of Kingston and Don of Oshawa. She is also survived by their wives Shirley and Eileen, and grandchildren Cindy, Patti and Stanley of Kingston and Robbie of Oshawa, and great-grandchildren Lance, Shawntell and Jessica also of Kingston. She was predeceased by sister Ella Andrews and brother Thomas (Mac) Rodger. The funeral was led by Rev Bob Hill at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home chapel March 5 at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at the Auld Kirk cemetery.

    Thomas Wilbert McKay
    The sudden death of Thomas Wilbert McKay, occurred at his home, St George St., Almonte, on Saturday morning, October 17th, at the age of 59. Born at Middleville on July 21, 1911, he was the eldest son of Welland McKay and the late Nellie Rodger. He received his education at Middleville. Later moving to Ramsay, where he farmed, besides being Stationary Engineer at the Almonte Dairy, No 1 Mill, and for the last ten years was employed at the Collie Woollen Mill, Appleton. On September 30, 1936, in St George Church, Clayton, the late Mr McKay was married to Marjorie Poole, who survives his loss with three sons, George and Harold of Ottawa, and Arthur at home. Two daughters-in-law, Margaret and Janis, and a darling granddaughter, Krista Margaret, all of Ottawa. His father, one brother James and his uncle, Charlie McKay of Almonte, also survive. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 20. Burial was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service was conducted by Rev L. Hughes of Arnprior. Honourary pallbearers were Messrs John Sutherland, M.R. Thompson, N.T. Sadler, Earle Currie, Ralph Sinnett, John Waddell and W.A. Metcalfe. Active pallbearers were Messrs Earl Cowan, John Mann, Don Thurston, Gordon Weir, Delmer Paterson and Ernest Giles. Flower-bearers were Ray Cowan, Bob Sadler, Ronnie McKay and Karl Mann.

    It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bob. Suddenly and peacefully in his sleep at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Thursday March 4, 2021 in his 79th year.

    Loving husband of Liz for 51 years. Loving dad of Jeff (Tammy), Terry and Amanda (Matthew). Grandfather of Jessica (Brady), James (Kim), Taylor (Jesse), Cole (Jasmine), Hunter, Reid and Lena. Great-grandfather of Cory. Previously deceased by his parents Harry and Ethel Metcalfe and sister Rae (Vic). Survived by his siblings Cindy (Joe-deceased) and Kay (Jim-deceased). Will be remembered by his nieces and nephews. Dearly missed by his faithful dog Misty.

    After a short illness, Garnet James Rodger peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 8th, 1976, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Son of James Roy Rodger, and the former Gladys Seabrooke, he was born at Almonte on July 20th, 1943. He attended Church Street Public School, and Almonte and District High School. On August 22nd, 1968, he was married in the Presbyterian Church to the former Jacquelone Gagner, who survives. He was the devoted father of twin boys, Garnet and Gordon, and one daughter, Sarah, at home. He was employed as electronic technician at Leigh Instruments, Carleton Place, for a period of 13 years, where he acquired many friends. Since his marriage, he had resided in the village of Blakeney, and was highly regarded as a good friend and neighbour. Also left to mourn are his parents, two sisters, Mrs Eileen McNeely, Almonte, and Mrs Phyllis Haskins, Easton's Corners, and two brothers, Kenneth and Ernest, at home. He was buried at Auld Kirk Cemetery, on Saturday, September 11th, 1976, Rev P. Rumball officiating. Pallbearers were Leonard McNeely, Jack Wilson, Horst Fallak, Wayne Moore, Cecil Barden, and Robert Andrews.
