Mr John Thom
In the death of Mr John Thom on Saturday there passed away one whose figure has been a familiar one in these parts for many years. He was born near Glasgow, Scotland, on August 13th, 1829, and was therefore in his 78th year. His parents came to Canada when he was two years of age and settled in Beckwith, five years later moving to the 12th line of Ramsay, where the deceased lived continuously until December, 1898, when he came of Almonte to live. In December 1854, He married Marion, youngest daughter of the late John Neilson, by whom he had eight children: Agnes, deceased; Margaret M., (Mrs Thos Cavers), Ramsay; Jane deceased; John, on the homestead; Mary A., Almonte; Marion M., deceased; Rev Geo W., Sundridge, Ont., and one died in infancy. In 1883, Mrs Thom died leaving six children to mourn her loss. Mr Thom married a second wife in the person of Marion McKinlay, who died three years ago. The deceased had three brothers; William, deceased; James, Carleton Place, and David, postmaster at Whitehurst, near Brockville; also two sisters: Mary (Mrs Jas Turner), Ramsay; and Margaret, deceased wife of the late Jas Waddell, Pakenham. The late Mr Thom enjoyed rugged health throughout his lifetime until about a year or more ago, when he showed signs of failing strength, and he succumbed on Saturday last, The funeral service on Tuesday was well attended and was conducted by Rev C.H. Daly of St. John's church. The pall-bearers were the nearest family relatives of the deceased, viz., his two brothers, two sons, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. The deceased was a man of uprightness and integrity ? one whose word was his bond. He was for years a member of the Reformed Presbyterian church and was so imbued with the spirit and teaching of that body that his whole life was an exemplication of the principles ...[last line fades out]..there.

Death of Mr. Wm. Thom
After three-quarters of a century spent in Canada, worn out vitality failed to respond to the call of nature and on Monday morning. Mr William Thom, Almonte, laid down the burden of life. As mentioned in last Gazette, he was brought to the hospital in town suffering from severe collapse, and though constant care was given to him, and every effort made to aid nature in the fight against dissolution, the end came as above stated. The deceased was the eldest son of the late John Thom, and was born near Glasgow, Scotland, his parents coming to Canada when he was but four months old. They settled in Beckwith, where about four years were spent afterwards removing to Ramsay, to the farm near Appleton upon which Mr John Thom lived before coming to Almonte to reside. The deceased learned shoemaking with a Mr John Thompson, who lived on Queen street, near where Mr Wm Forgie had his property, and afterwards worked with Mr Thos. Arthurs at Appleton. A few years later he bought a farm in Pakenham township in rear of that of Mr Waddell, and now occupied by his son. Mr J.A. Thom. Here he lived until his wife died some years ago, since then he has spent his time working with friends. To him and Mrs Thom several children were born ? five boys and two girls. The sons are John, in Ramsay; Geo N, in Carleton Place; Finley, Pembroke; Peter A, Smith's Falls; and William, dead. The daughters, Mrs Thos Hamilton, Smith's Falls; and Mrs Jas Flett, Bruce Co. Three brothers ? John, Almonte; James, David, near Brockville and one sister, Mrs James Turner, Ramsay, are still living. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the residence of Mr John Thom, town, to the eighth line cemetery

Mrs James Turner
After five weeks of illness borne with that patience and fortitude which had characterized her whole life, Mrs James Turner of Ramsay was on Saturday summoned to the home on many mansions prepared for those who endure unto the end. The late Mrs Turner was Mary Agnes Thom, a sister of the late John Thom, and was 75 years of age. She was married to Mr Turner fifty-seven years ago and together they celebrated the golden anniversary of the event seven years ago, surrounded by friends and grateful for the many sincere wishes for a long continuance of the tie that bound them. To then six sons and five daughters were born. Of these nine are still living. They are: John of the farm adjoining the homestead; William, Presbyterian minister at Norval; Henry H., also a minster at Kirkfield; James A., in Ramsay; and Arthur A., on the homestead; Margaret (Mrs Henderson) in Beckwith; Marion (Mrs Thos Sadler) near Carleton Place; Jessie A., (Mrs Hill) North Augusta, and Jane at home. Mr and Mrs Turner after their marriage had lived continuously on the farm upon which Mr Turner's parents had settled when they came from Stirling in Scotland to Canada seventy-eight years ago. The funeral of the late Mrs Turner took place on Tuesday from the home near Appleton to the eighth line cemetery, and was very largely attended, there being over eighty vehicles in the cortege as it wended its way to the place of burial. The pallbearers were five sons and one grandson of the deceased. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Turner, the family and friends in their bereavement.

The home of Mr Thos Cavers of Ramsay was rendered sad by the death on the eve of Thanksgiving Day of the wife and mother. Mrs Cavers was ill a couple of weeks before her death, and suffered severely from an abscess in her head. Dr. Minnes of Ottawa was called in consultation with her family physician, but nothing could be done to save her life, the main trouble being Bright's disease. Deceased was a daughter of the late John Thom, and was fifty years of age. twenty-six years ago she was married to Mr. Cavers, and to them seven children were born, two of whom are dead. Those living are: John C. at Carleton Place, and Thomas E., William, Mary, and James at home. Miss Mary Thom of Almonte is a sister, and Messrs. John Thom of Ramsay and Rev, George Thom of Allandale, brothers of the deceased. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, the service at the home being private, owing to illness in the home, but many friends joined the cortege to the eighth line cemetery, thus showing esteem for the dead and sympathy with the living in their bereavement

Miss Mary A. Thom
A wide circle of friends mourn the passing of Miss Mary A. Thom on Saturday evening. She was 63 years of age Miss Thom was a daughter of the late John Thom and his wife Marion Neilson, and was born in Ramsay on the farm on the 12th line now owned by Mr Victor Kellough. She was educated at the Appleton School, and was an active member of the Appleton Presbyterian Church until she came to Almonte to reside some 29 years ago. In later years she was a devout member of Bethany United Church and one of its most prominent workers. She devoted a great deal of her time to the activities of the Women's Missionary Society and latterly was its honourary president. For a long time Miss Thom had not been in good health and last winter she was a good deal in the R.M. Hospital. She leaves to mourn her loss one brother, Rev George Thom, of Almonte. The funeral service at Bethany United Church on Tuesday afternoon was attended by a large concourse of people, many friends from a distance being present. Rev J.R. MacCrimmon officiated. The remains were interred at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Rev Geo W. Thom
The funeral of the Rev George Wm Thom, B.A., B.D., was held on Saturday afternoon, Aug 12th, from the Comba Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr Thom died on Thursday in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for a month. He was in his 80th year. Mr Thom was born near Appleton, a son of the late John Thom and Marion Neilson. He was educated in the local school, Almonte High School and was a graduate in arts and theology of McGill University. He served in the Presbyterian mission field in the Province of Quebec for some time and occupied a charge at Shawville, Que for six years after which he became a professor in a Presbyterian mission school at Pointe aux Trembles, Que. He retired about 24 years ago and since that time has made his home in Almonte. Mr Thom, who never married, was recognized in educational circle as an outstanding French teacher. He was the last of his immediate family, five sisters and a brother having predeceased him. The service was under the district presbytery of the Presbyterian Church. The Rev James Foote of Carleton Place officiated. Pallbearers were: Messrs Gordon and Wm Thom of Smiths Falls, John B. Neilson, Frank Paul, D.W. Stewart and Norman Bowes of Ramsay.

Mrs Thos Hamilton Dies at Her Home
Margaret C. Hamilton, widow of Thomas Hamilton, died at her residence, 218 Waverlay street, Saturday. The former Margaret C. Thom, daughter of the late William Thom and Catherine Sinclair, she was born in Almonte, where she was educated. Her husband predeceased her 32 years ago. She attended Chalmers United Church where she was a member of the W.M.S. and Circle No 2 of the Women's Association. She leaves to mourn, two sons, Ross, a member of the R.C.A.F., now stationed at Montreal, and Neilson, of the Pease Foundry Company, Toronto; a daughter, Katie M. Hamilton, of the Pensions Department; two brothers, Findlay Thom, Pembroke, and George M. Thom, of Vancouver, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held in the Chapel of Hulse and Playfair, Limited, 315 McLeod street, today, at 1.30 p.m. conducted by Rev Kenneth Moyer of Chalmers United Church. Interment will be at Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte.

Mr John Andrew Thom
Following a comparatively brief illness the death occurred on Friday, May 31st, at the homestead in Pakenham, of Mr John Thom in his 74th year. Deceased was a son of the late William Thom and Catherine Sinclair, natives of Scotland, who came to Canada when they were quite young. Mr Thom was born and spent his lifetime on the farm where he passed away. In September of 1891 he married Miss Catharine Gilmour of Almonte, who survives together with a son and daughter, Fred of Almonte and Rebecca (Mrs L. Settlage of Detroit). There are also, two sisters and two brothers, namely, Margaret (Mrs Thomas Hamilton of Ottawa;) Mary (Mrs William Flett of Paisley, Ont.); Findlay of Pembroke and George of Vancouver. The late Mr Thom was a quiet man who devoted his main attention to his farm. The funeral was held Monday afternoon to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted at the home and grave by Rev A.J. Fowlie assisted by Rev George Thom and Rev J. M. Rutherford. Pallbearers were: six cousins: Jas Thom, John Thom, Jas Thom, David Thom, John Turner and James Turner.

Ramsay Farmer, John Turner Dies At 91 Years
John Turner, one of Ramsay Township's oldest citizens passed away suddenly on Sunday August 3rd, at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital after a day's illness in his 91st year. Mr Turner was born in Ramsay Township on September 22nd 1867, a son of the late James Turner and his wife, Mary Thom pioneer settlers. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow the former Agnes McIlraith of Hopetown, Ontario. Three sons, Cecil at home, Mac and Ross of Montreal Que; two daughters Mrs Leo Dunlop (Mary) of Harrison, Nebraska U.S.A. and Anna M. of Napanee Ontario. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also one sister Mrs Norton Hill (Jessie) and one brother, Dr Henry H. Turner. He farmed all his life on the 12th line of Ramsay. For many years he served as a trustee of S.S. No 11 but it was his church that was so dear to him. He was a life long member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian which in 1925 became St Andrew's United Church Appleton. He served on the Board of Management for a number of years then in September of 1900 was ordained an elder. For 52 years an active elder and not more than three times had he been absent from a communion service. At a special service on Sunday September 17th, 1950. The minister Rev H.L. Morrison voiced the appreciation of the congregation to Mr Turner for his 50 years of service and messages of congratulations were read from the Moderator of the United Church of Canada. The president of the Bay of Quinte conference and the secretary of Renfrew Presbytery. A table was also unveiled by his grandson, Vernon Turner of Montreal commemorating the event as a permanent and visible recognition of his faithful services. He was also a life member of the Ottawa branch of the Bible Society. The funeral which was largely attended by friends and neighbours was held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday August 5th from the Patterson and Son Funeral Home, Carleton Place, with interment in the Auld Kirk cemetery. A very impressive service was conducted by Rev H.W. Giffin of Memorial Park United Church Carleton Place in the absence of the pastor, Rev J. Ray Anderson. The pallbearers were two grandsons Vernon and Kenneth H. Turner of Montreal; two nephews, Edmund Sadler of Carleton Place and Ross Somerville of Balderson and two neighbours, Alex (Allie) Stewart and Harry A. McArton. The many beautiful floral tributes showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. Among those noticed were pieces from employees of Motor Repair Ltd., Montreal; Kelvinator Sales Corporation, Montreal; Kelvinator Social Club, Montreal; the principal ad staff, Napanee Public School; Dr K.E. and Mrs Hollis and Miss Olive Hornbly, members of Session and Board of Stewards; The women's Association and St Andrew's United Church, Appleton. Those attending the funeral of the late Mr John Turner from a distance were Mr and Mrs J.M. Mr James Waddell Thom, well-known resident of Ramsay Township passed away on Tuesday, March 11th at the home of his daughter, Mrs Percy Drynan, Carleton Place, following a lengthy illness in his 89th year. Born in Ramsay Township, January 28, 1870, he was a son of the late James Thom and his wife, the former Christena Waddell. He received his education in the rural school and spent his entire life farming. The late Mr Thom was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Almonte. In which he took as active part, serving as a deacon for over 50 years and was treasurer for 40 years. He was married to the former Margaret McTavish, who predeceased him ten years ago. He leaves to mourn, a daughter and two sons, Hazel, Mrs Percy Drynan, Gordon of Ramsay and Kenneth of Toronto, also a sister, Helen, Mrs Thos Halliwell of Edmonton and nine grandchildren. Rev F.F. Reade, pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church conducted the service at the Fleming Funeral Home on Thursday, March 13th, which was largely attended by friends and neighbours. Friends attending were from Toronto, Ottawa, Smiths Falls, Perth, Carp and Kinburn. The pallbearers were, Gordon Thom, Smiths Falls, Wesley Thom, James Henry, Edward Rose, Milton Bowes and Alexander Burns. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery

THOMAS EDGAR CAVERS
The funeral of Thomas Edgar Cavers took place December 26th from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. West, Carleton Place to the United Cemetery for interment. Rev. J. Ray Anderson of Almonte conducted the service. Mr. Cavers died in the R. M. Hospital, Almonte, on December 23 after a short illness. He was 74 years of age and was born February 9th, 1882 in Ramsay Township, son of the late Thomas Cavers and his wife, Margaret Miller Thom. He had farmed for years in Ramsay and attended Appleton United Church. He was married in June, 1915, to the former Bessie May McNab. Surviving besides his widow are two sons, Harold of Toronto; Melville of Almonte, a daughter (Agnes), Mrs. Tudor of Perth, a brother, James of Carleton Place and a half sister, Miss Margaret Cavers of Almonte. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ollie Stewart, Victor Kellough, Duncan Stewart, Stewart Cavers, John Lowe and Edward Lowe. Mr Ernest H. Turner Passes Suddenly
Last Wednesday afternoon Mr Ernest H. Turner, who had been ailing for several months, passed away somewhat unexpectedly, at his new home on Victoria street, into which he had moved only the day previous. Deceased was born in Ramsay, being a son of the late Alexander Turner, and was but 32 years of age. When quite young man he bought the Paterson farm on the 9th line, where he made an ideal home. About ten years ago he married Phoebe Houston. daughter of the late Andrew Houston, and she with two children. Alexander and Hannah, survive. Last winter Mr Turner had a severe attack of influenza, from which he never fully recovered, which caused him to give up his farm and move to town. He was a progressive farmer and took a keen interest in the local horse show, of which he was for some years a director. In religion he was a Presbyterian, and, for some years was an officer of St Andrews church Appleton. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon to the 8th Line Ramsay cemetery, and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev Mr Fraser of Appleton. The pallbearers were Messrs T.E. Arthur, John Cram, Norman McDougall, W. Hawkins, John Chapman and Harry Young. The sorrowing family have the deepest sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Mary Agnes Foster (Turner) (Thewlis) Dunlap entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Feb. 22, 2000, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Neb. She was born June 28, 1905 at her parents home where she was also baptized in Ramsey Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were John H. and Agnes (McIlraith) Turner. Mary attended Appleton S.S. No. 11 public school in Appleton, Ontario, and graduated from Almonte High School in 1921. She then attended nursing school, graduating from Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1924, and matriculated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, in 1928 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Following her graduation, Mary was a Nursing Instructress at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, becoming Nursing Instructress at Lamont Hospital in Lamont, Alberta, Canada. On September 19, 1936, Mary married John H. Thewlis. To this union were born two children, Anne and Ina. John Died on July 11, 1941. In August, 1944 Mary and her two children moved to Sioux County, Nebraska, arriving in Lusk, Wyoming, on the "Galloping Goose." Mary was then married to Leo Dunlap on August 24, 1944. They made their home on a ranch north of Harrison, Neb., known now as the Joe Falkenburg South Ranch. After her marriage, Mary kept herself busy with nursing, as she served as the Sioux County School nurse, which included implementing the annual health physicals, served as a rodeo nurse, 4-H camp nurse, as well as doing relief nursing in Lusk, Edgemont, S.D., and Crawford, Neb. She also served as the Sioux County Ag Hall Superintendent for at least 15 years, was a 4-H leader, and taught first aid classes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. In 1947 Mary became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. She was an American National Red Cross Nurse in 1950. In August 1948 Mary and Leo adopted two sons, Terry and Jerry Dunlap. In May 1974 Mary and Leo retired and moved to Crawford, Neb. Leo died on July 3, 1991. While living in Crawford, Mary remained active in the community. She was a volunteer at Ponderosa Villa, a volunteer with R.S.V.P., receiving a certificate for contributing over 2100 hours of service. She was a member of the Crawford Congregational Church, where she served as a member of the Diaconate, and flower lady, as well as secretary/treasurer for the women's circle, and helping with church fundraising activities. When her health deteriorated to the point that she was unable to practice nursing, she did private duty nursing, often sitting with people who were very ill or dying at the Crawford Hospital, Ponderosa Villa or the Niobrara County Hospital in Lusk, Wyo. During her free time, Mary enjoyed knitting, art, needlework, crocheting, reading, cooking and music. She quilted baby quilts, and embroidered two quilts of the United States, one with the state birds, and one with the state flowers, and made an afghan for each member of her family. She was also afforded the opportunity to take a few trips to her homeland, Canada. Mary moved to Ponderosa Villa on Feb. 1, 1998. Mary was a lifetime member of the Ottawa Civic Hospital Alumnae. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, three brothers: Ross Turner, Cecil Turner, J. M. Turner; one sister, Anna Turner and two sons-in-law, Rolland Quintard and Keith Glaubius. She leaves to mourn her daughters Anne (Thewlis) Quintard of Harrison, Neb., Ina Glaubius of Wisner, Neb.; sons Terry and wife Janet Dunlap of North Platte, Neb.; Jerry and Wife Lovilla Dunlap of Lovell, Ark.; 10 grandchildren: Monique (Bradshaw) Quintard, Rolisa Lewis, Mark Glaubius, Michael Glaubius, Marijean Peterson, Rebecca Dunlap-Morton, Rachel Dunlap, Allan Dunlap, Jennifer Dunlap, Luke Dunlap; 9 great-grandchildren; Etelka "Teli" Bradshaw, Tyler and Spencer Lewis, Zachary and Alexander Glaubius, Sophie Glaubius, Gabe Morton, Melissa Hotell, and Barry Western; two greatgranddaughters, Laurel Rae Hotell and Emily Michelle Hotell; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were Feb. 26 at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison, Neb., with the Reverend Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be in the Old Kirk Cemetery at Aliment, Ontario, Canada at a later date. Memorials are established to the Crawford Ambulance Fund, or Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Neb., or the Harrison Ambulance Fund or the Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison. Anna M.J. Turner of Napanee passed away in the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital on Wednesday March 7, 1984. Born at Appleton, she was the youngest daughter of the late John Turner and his wife Agnes McIlraith. Left to mourn her loss are three brothers, Cecil of Carleton Place, Mac of Montreal, Ross of Guelph and one sister Marg (Mrs Leo Dunlap) of Crawford, Nebraska USA. She taught school at Kinburn, Appleton and Napanee before retiring in Napanee. She was a very active member of the United Church Women Society Session, also Clerk of Session at grace United Church as well as a member of the Historical Society and several other organizations in Napanee. A memorial service was held in the Wartman Funeral Home, Thursday evening at 7 pm and was conducted by the Queen of Sheiba Chapter (254) of the Rebekah Lodge. Funeral service was held on Friday, March 9, at 10:30 am in Grace United Church and was conducted by Rev Barry Saint Germain. Interment will be in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte, in the spring. The Session formed a Guard of Honour at the service. Friends from Appleton, Carleton Place, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, North Bay, Toronto, Cambridge, Kitchener and Guelph attended the service.

Besides the four crew members, two of the five ground crew members who attempted to assist, also perished in this accident.

Melville (Mel) Charles Cavers
A retired textile worker and veteran of World War II, Melville Charles Cavers at his home at the age of 78 years on May 25, 2001. The son of Thomas Edgar Cavers and Bessie (McNabb) Cavers, Mr. Cavers was born in Almonte on July 23, 1922 and was educated in Appleton at Ramsay SS#12 school. In addition to his work and World War II service, Mr. Cavers was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in Almonte, and a lifetime resident of this area. He is survived by sister Agnes Tudor of Toronto and her children Sharon, Robert (Patricia), and Stephen (Mary Ann); sister-in-law. Barbara Cavers (Harold) and her son Glen (Julie); and great-nieces and great-nephews David, Stephanie, Melissa, Steven, Laura, Greg and Kyle. Mr. Cavers was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Harold. He was also a close friend of Queenie Barr and her family. Funeral services took place at the chapel of the C.R. People were shocked to learn of the sudden death, early Monday morning of Mr John Rose of Pakenham Township. He was a comparatively young man having been born on Sept 3rd, 1913. Mr Rose was a bachelor and had made his home with his cousin, Mr Ed Rose, on the family homestead of for the last 20 years. He had a heart condition which had not bothered him to a great extent up to the time of his death. He helped with the work around the farm and did not complain about feeling badly on the last night he retired. He was taken suddenly ill early in the morning and passed away before medical aid arrived. The late Mr Rose was a son of the late John E. Rose and Mary Cavers of Pakenham Township and was born on the farm where he died. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Comba Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev T.R. Hutcheson of the Reformed Presbyterian Church conducted the service, assisted by Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Bethany United Church. Deceased was a deacon of the first mentioned Religious denomination. Pallbearers at his funeral were: John Morton, John Waddell, Allan, Thos and Wm Burns and Wm Bowes. Among many floral offerings were pieces from the Reformed Presbyterian Church and C.Y.P.U.

Dr. James Coulton Henderson died in his 90th year on February 15, 2021 with his beloved family at his side. Jim was the adored husband of Shirley, father of Jim (Karen) and Kim (Kate) and Papa to Arlee (Shane), Erin, Jillian and Rylee.

Jim was predeceased by his siblings Wendell, Orion, Alton and Doris, his brother-in-law Donald Kemp, and sister-in-law Joyce Kemp.

He is survived by his brother-in-law Murray Kemp (Dianne) and sisters-in-law Nadine Royal (Bernie deceased) and Barbara MacLean (Gerry) and many nieces, nephews, and their children in Canada and the United States.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at Providence Care Hospital, Parkside 1 for the wonderful care they gave Jim and the kindness they showed to Shirley in the last eight months of Jim's life.

Jim made his entrance at home on July 11, 1930, the youngest of five born to CNR station master John Laughlin Henderson and Lottie Luella Bradley, in Nemegosa small northern Ontario town that no longer exists. Nemegos was so small that Jim was boarded out to attend public school in Chapleau and later, to Fort William (now Thunder Bay) for high school. On visits home from Queen's, the train didn't even come to a full stop in Nemegos. The conductor would just slow down so Jim could hop on and off. Childhood summers and weekends in the north made Jim an expert canoeist out of necessity. There was no other way to get around. Jim always wanted to be a doctor, so in 1950 he set out for Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. It was here, at a boarding house where he ate his meals, that he met the love of his life Shirley Vera Kemp. Jim graduated with his BA in 1953 and immediately began medical school. Shirley and Jim were married on July 7, 1956.

Early married life was dominated by Jim's studies. First they lived in an apartment on University Avenue close enough for Jim to walk to school and for Shirley to walk to work downtown. In 1959, Jim graduated. He immediately returned to school to do his specialty in anaesthesia. Jim and Shirley loved the camaraderie of Queen's med school and attending Class of '59 reunions would become a lifelong highlight for them both. While Jim studied and Shirley worked, they started their family. Jimmy was born in June, 1961, and Kimberley followed in late December, 1962 just in time for a tax deduction Jim always joked. The family spent 1964 in Toronto where Jim worked at Northwestern Hospital and Toronto General while studying for his Fellowship exams. In 1965 they returned to Kingston where Jim worked as an anaesthetist at Hotel Dieu Hospital. He served in many different roles at hospitals and at Queen's simultaneously over the years, including as deputy chief of the department of anesthesia at Hotel Dieu Hospital, president of the medical staff at Ongwanada Hospital, assistant professor in the department of anesthesiology at Queen's, attending staff at Kingston General Hospital and associate staff at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital and Kingston Penitentiary. He retired in 1996 and then started his own business for dental anaesthesia until 2003.

Jim was at heart a family man, and despite spending wonderful yearly vacations on Captiva Island in Florida and after retirement, in Pinehurst, North Carolina, he would always grin from ear to ear and say, "it's good to be home," as soon as they walked back in the front door. Shirley and Jim planned and built their house, which they moved into at the end of 1971 and where they remained for the next 45 years. They loved to entertain and hosted many epic parties and bridge games with dear, dear friends too numerous to name here. Jim loved to garden and spent hours every week keeping the flower beds and lawn immaculate. When he wasn't working, he was always busy, either in the garden, tending to the house and pool or lending an expert hand to any family or friend who needed it. In the rare moments Jim sat still, it was to bury his nose in a book. Adored by his family and friends, respected by his colleagues and appreciated by his many patients over the years, Jim's generosity and kindness will live on in those who knew and loved him

Munro, Spencer A.
Spencer passed away in Perth on Tuesday May 26th, 2020 at the age of 34 years. He will be sadly missed by his family including his parents David and Shirley Munro, brother Allan (Kelly), grandparents Clarence and Wilma Munro and Marjorie (late Doug) Campbell. He was the special uncle to Aiden, Dawson and Carson and will be fondly remembered by all his aunts, uncles, cousins, "honourary" nieces and nephews and many good friends.
