    Death of Mr. Wm. Thom
    After three-quarters of a century spent in Canada, worn out vitality failed to respond to the call of nature and on Monday morning. Mr William Thom, Almonte, laid down the burden of life. As mentioned in last Gazette, he was brought to the hospital in town suffering from severe collapse, and though constant care was given to him, and every effort made to aid nature in the fight against dissolution, the end came as above stated. The deceased was the eldest son of the late John Thom, and was born near Glasgow, Scotland, his parents coming to Canada when he was but four months old. They settled in Beckwith, where about four years were spent afterwards removing to Ramsay, to the farm near Appleton upon which Mr John Thom lived before coming to Almonte to reside. The deceased learned shoemaking with a Mr John Thompson, who lived on Queen street, near where Mr Wm Forgie had his property, and afterwards worked with Mr Thos. Arthurs at Appleton. A few years later he bought a farm in Pakenham township in rear of that of Mr Waddell, and now occupied by his son. Mr J.A. Thom. Here he lived until his wife died some years ago, since then he has spent his time working with friends. To him and Mrs Thom several children were born ? five boys and two girls. The sons are John, in Ramsay; Geo N, in Carleton Place; Finley, Pembroke; Peter A, Smith's Falls; and William, dead. The daughters, Mrs Thos Hamilton, Smith's Falls; and Mrs Jas Flett, Bruce Co. Three brothers ? John, Almonte; James, David, near Brockville and one sister, Mrs James Turner, Ramsay, are still living. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the residence of Mr John Thom, town, to the eighth line cemetery

    William married Catherine "Kate" Sinclair about 1856 in Lanark County, Canada West.     Mrs Thos Hamilton Dies at Her Home
    Margaret C. Hamilton, widow of Thomas Hamilton, died at her residence, 218 Waverlay street, Saturday. The former Margaret C. Thom, daughter of the late William Thom and Catherine Sinclair, she was born in Almonte, where she was educated. Her husband predeceased her 32 years ago. She attended Chalmers United Church where she was a member of the W.M.S. and Circle No 2 of the Women's Association. She leaves to mourn, two sons, Ross, a member of the R.C.A.F., now stationed at Montreal, and Neilson, of the Pease Foundry Company, Toronto; a daughter, Katie M. Hamilton, of the Pensions Department; two brothers, Findlay Thom, Pembroke, and George M. Thom, of Vancouver, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held in the Chapel of Hulse and Playfair, Limited, 315 McLeod street, today, at 1.30 p.m. conducted by Rev Kenneth Moyer of Chalmers United Church. Interment will be at Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte.

    Mr John Andrew Thom
    Following a comparatively brief illness the death occurred on Friday, May 31st, at the homestead in Pakenham, of Mr John Thom in his 74th year. Deceased was a son of the late William Thom and Catherine Sinclair, natives of Scotland, who came to Canada when they were quite young. Mr Thom was born and spent his lifetime on the farm where he passed away. In September of 1891 he married Miss Catharine Gilmour of Almonte, who survives together with a son and daughter, Fred of Almonte and Rebecca (Mrs L. Settlage of Detroit). There are also, two sisters and two brothers, namely, Margaret (Mrs Thomas Hamilton of Ottawa;) Mary (Mrs William Flett of Paisley, Ont.); Findlay of Pembroke and George of Vancouver. The late Mr Thom was a quiet man who devoted his main attention to his farm. The funeral was held Monday afternoon to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted at the home and grave by Rev A.J. Fowlie assisted by Rev George Thom and Rev J. M. Rutherford. Pallbearers were: six cousins: Jas Thom, John Thom, Jas Thom, David Thom, John Turner and James Turner.

    John married Catherine Gilmour in 1891. Catherine (daughter of John Clark Gilmour and Rebecca Kilgore) was born on 11 Apr 1859 in Almonte, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 6 Dec 1942 in Gibralter, Wayne County, Michigan, United States; was buried on 9 Dec 1942 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
