AGED LADY DIES IN ALMONTE STORE
Mrs Matilda More Met Death
While Doing Some Shopping on Monday Morning. Mrs Matilda More, and aged lady of the New England section, died suddenly in Mr J.F. Patterson's drug store on Mill St., on Monday morning. She had been doing some shopping and on her way home felt faint. She entered Mr. Patterson's store to rest, and suddenly fell to the floor. Medical assistance was called immediately but life was extant when the doctors arrived. Mrs More, who was the widow of William More, for many years a well-known Ramsay farmer, lived alone. She was eighty-four years of age. The late Mrs More was the daughter of Edward Nicholson, a Scotsman, who settled in Ramsay. She was born at Leckey's Corners. She was married when quite young and lived all her life on the Seventh Line of Ramsay until about nine years ago when she removed to Almonte. She was much beloved and respected. She leaves four sons and three daughters: Mary, Mrs Edge, of Ottawa; Ellen, Mrs Lester, of Colorado; Annie, Mrs J. Andrews, of Ramsay; Edward and Donald, of Smoky Falls, Ont.; Charles and James, of Ramsay. The Funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Wednesday to the Eighth Line Cemetery. Rev S. Gorley Brown, who was her minister, conducted the services

On Saturday morning last, death came to Mr John Moore of Ramsay at his home on the 7th line after a couple of weeks' illness. Deceased was born in Ramsay in the neighbourhood of where he died, was a son of the late Wm. Moore, and was 55 years of age. For sixteen years he worked a farm in Russell county which he bought from Mr Matthew Curry of Almonte, but he afterwards came back to Ramsay and purchased the Burn's property from James Bowes, and later the Henry lot. There were three daughters, one of whom is dead, and two sons in the family. William lives in Ramsay, Agnes, Mrs David Harrison; in Carleton Place; and Gertrude, Mrs John Nelson McEwen, in Lauder, Manitoba. The younger boy is at home with the mother. The funeral took place on Monday to the 8th line cemetery and was attended by all the countryside.

Edward Moore
The death occurred at his home of John Street,
Almonte, of Edward Moore, following a lengthy illness. He
was in his 91st year.
Mr Moore was born on the 7th line of Ramsay, son of
the late William Moore and his wife, Matilda Nicholson. As a
young man, he moved to Carleton Place where he was
employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Later he moved
to Sturgeon Falls to take up farming, and returned to
Almonte in 1947.
In 1879 he married Agnes Jane Hastie of Carleton
Place, who died in 1897. Of this union, there were born two
sons and two daughters.
At Crystal Falls, he married Martha Marshall of Almonte
who survives. Also surviving are two sons, William of
Florida and David of South Lanacaster, Mass; one
daughter, Sarah, of Vancouver. One daughter, Mary, (Mrs
Sidney Lawford) died last July. Also surviving is one
brother, Donald Moore, of Main St, Almonte.
The funeral took place on Wednesday from his late
residence, John Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery

Following a lingering illness, Donald Moore, died at his Main Street home in Almonte on Monday, Nov 4th. He was in his 88th year. Born in Ramsay Township, a son of the late William Moore and his wife the former Matilda Nicholson, he received his education at the 7th line of Ramsay school. Following his schooling Mr Moore took up the trade of stonemason and his work took him to all parts of the country. When he was getting up in years he turned to farming and for quite a number of years he farmed in the Crystal Falls district. Some 11 years ago he retired and moved to Almonte where he lived until time of his death. Twice married Mr Moore is survived by his second wife, the former Hannah Lark. His first wife, the former Sarah Eastman, of Russell, Ontario died 60 years ago. The last of a large family of 5 girls and 10 boys, he is survived by one daughter, by his first marriage, Tillie, Mrs Thomas A. Julian of Almonte. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, with interment being made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev J. Ray Anderson of the Almonte United Church conducted the service.

Charles More, a well known and highly respected resident of Almonte died last Saturday at the home of his son in Ramsay. Mr More was taken ill while working with his son Andrew, Saturday morning and passed away shortly afterwards. He was in his 68th year. Born in Ramsay, he was the son of the late William More and his wife Matilda Nicholson. He had farmed in Ramsay for many years, and then retired to live in Almonte. Surviving in addition to his widow, are four sons, Milton and Andrew of Ramsay, Harold and Charles of Almonte; one daughter Mrs John Corkery of Gananoque; and three brothers, James More of Almonte, Donald and Edward of Crystal Falls, Ont. The late Mr More was of a quiet retiring disposition and was well-known and highly respected by a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held Monday from his late residence to the Auld Kirk cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs Andrew More, Milton More, Harold More, Chas More Jr., Grant Gunn and Stanley More. Rev A.J. Fowlie of the Presbyterian Church of which deceased was a member officiated, assisted by Rev W.J. Scott and Rev Wm Aird. Among the beautiful floral tributes were pieces from the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church, the staff of the Producers Dairy and Mr M.J. Black, manager of Producers Dairy.

The death occurred suddenly on Wednesday morning, Feb 23rd, of an esteemed resident of Carleton Place, in the person of Annie Moore, beloved wife of Mr John Andrews, who passed away at her home on Thomas street. Mrs Andrews had been in failing health for two years but during the past few weeks had enjoyed exceptional good health. She retired on Tuesday night apparently feeling as usual and giving no indication that death was close at hand, but during the early hours of the morning she suffered a heart attack. Her husband immediately summoned medical aid but Mrs Andrew had passed to the Great Beyond before the doctor's arrival. Deceased was born 58 years ago on the 7th line of Ramsay and was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs William Moore. She was married in Zion church, Carleton Place, to Mr John Andrews by the late Rev A.A. Scott. Following their marriage the couple lived on their farm in Ramsay and continued residence there until four years ago when they retired and move to Carleton Place where they have since lived. During her residence in town Mrs Andrews made a host of friends through her kindly and friendly nature and her passing caused widespread regret. In religion she was a member of Memorial Park United church and was interested in all its works. She was a lady very considerate of others and in her unassuming manner performed many deeds of kindness. Besides her husband she is survived by two stepdaughters, (Pearl) Mrs Thomas Suozzi of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Jennie Andrews of Almonte; also two step-sons, Messrs David and William Andrews on the homestead in Ramsay. Four brothers Messrs James and Charles of Almonte and Donald and Edward Moore of Crystal Falls, also survive. The funeral took place from her late residence on Friday afternoon the service being held at 2 o'clock. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery in Almonte. The pallbearers were Thomas Rathwell, Ernest Rathwell, Andrew Brown and John Smith of Carleton Place; Earl Simpson and Roy Rodger of Almonte. Rev Donald Munro of Carleton Place, assisted by Rev A.J. Fowlie of Almonte, conducted the service.

Mrs Mary M. Lawford?/b?
Final tribute was paid to Mrs Mary Lawford, wife of Sidney
M. Lawford, at her funeral service on Sunday July 24th. The
service was conducted by Rev T.R. Hutcheson assisted by
Professor I.J. Mathews. Burial was made in Auld Kirk
Cemetery.
Mrs Lawford was born in Ramsay, daughter of Edward
Moore and the late Agnes Hastie. She spent her early
childhood in Carleton Place and Pembroke, moving to
Almonte when a young girl and completed her high school
work here, and has resided in Almonte continuously since.
For a number of years she was associated in business
with her son, W.E. Lawford, and with her quiet cheerful
disposition made many friends, A member of the Baptist
Church, she taught in the Sunday School until recent years.
Left to mourn her loss are her husband, two sons,
Wesley E., of Toronto; Clifford, of the Postal Department,
Ottawa; two daughters, Valda, Department of Transport,
Ottawa; Edith (Mrs Carns Lever), of Carleton Place, also
her father, Edward Moore, Almonte; one sister, Sarah of
Vancouver; two brothers, William, of Rhode Island, and
David, of New York. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
The many beautiful floral tributes testified to the love
and esteem of her many friends.

The death of Mr. Milton More of 258 St. George Street, Almonte, occurred at the Almonte General Hospital at 7.30 o'clock on the evening of September 15, 1977, following a lengthy illness. He was 75. Mr. More was born in Ramsay Township on August 31, 1902, a son of the late Charles More and his wife Catherine Gunn. He farmed in Ramsay before his retirement. He was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church. He was married at Almonte on June 26, 1925, to the former Elizabeth Logan, who survives, together with four sons and two daughters, ? Logan of Almonte; Bert, Arnprior; John, Carleton Place; Laurie, Kingston; Doreen (Mrs Russ Saunders), Ottawa, and Ann (Mrs James Levi), Almonte. Also surviving are two brothers, Andrew and Charles, both of Almonte. A sister Myrtle, of Trenton and brother Harold of Almonte, predeceased him. The funeral was held from the Comba & Gamble Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept 17, with burial at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev E. Smith of St. John's Church conducted the services, assisted by Rev P. Rumball. The pallbearers were Earl More, Thomas More, Kerry Saunders, Boyne Saunders, Donevan Levi and Mike Parkman.

Andrew Lawrence More, RR 2 Almonte, died Dec 23 in the Almonte General Hospital at the age of 74. The son of the late Charles More and Catherine Gunn, also of Almonte, was born Nov 11, 1906. His life-long occupation was as a farmer. On Aug 11, 1928 Mr More was married to the late Winnifred MacCormack. The wedding took place in Carleton Place. Mr More was a member of the Almonte United Church. He is survived by two daughters, Iris (Mrs L.B. Lindensmith) of Ottawa, and Elsie (Mrs Mervyn Edwards) of Smiths Falls. He is also leaves two sons, Alvin, of Bellevue, Ohio, and Thomas of Almonte, and a brother, Charles, of Almonte. A funeral was held Dec 27 from the Gamble & Comba Funeral Home, Rev John Lougheed conducted the service. Burial took place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Logan More, Bert More, Laurie More, John More, Earl More, and Russ Saunders.

The death of Mr. Harold Alvin More occurred on Friday, November 30, 1973, at the Almonte General Hospital, in his 65th year. Mr. More, who was a retired Dairy Lab. Technician, resided at 240 Ottawa Street, Almonte. He had been employed with the Almonte Dairy, and also with the former Coleman's Creamery at Carleton Place. Born in Ramsay Township, on March 10, 1909, he was a son of the late Charles More and his wife, Katherine Gunn. He received his education at Ramsay Public Schools and Almonte High School, and later attended the dairy school in Kingston. He was married to the former Emma Jean Smith at the Almonte Presbyterian manse on August 27, 1938. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church; his hobby was flowers. Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Earl More of Arnprior; a daughter, Colleen, Mrs. Merrill Metcalfe of Pakenham; three brothers, Milton, Andrew and Charles, of Almonte, and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Neal of Trenton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin street, on Sunday, December 2nd, at 2:30 p.m., with burial at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. Douglas McQuaig of the Presbyterian Church conducted the services. Pallbearers were David Neron, Kingston; Deryle Neron, Camp Borden; Doug and Randy Neal of Belleville, and Thomas and John More of Almonte.

There entered into rest on Thursday, September 20th, at the home of her mother, Mrs. James Moore, Almonte, Violet, beloved wife of James E. Shane. The late Mrs. Shane was born 44 years ago on the 7th line of Ramsay and was a daughter of Mrs. James Moore and the late Mr. Moore. Twenty-four years ago she married James E. Shane of Clayton. They resided in Clayton district the greater part of her life, recently having moved to the 11th line of Pakenham; Mrs. Shane's loving and loyal disposition made her many good friends which was testified to by numerous and beautiful floral tributes received. She was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Clayton, also the Women's Institute and secretary of the Clayton Farm Forum. The funeral, which was one of the largest in the community, was held Saturday afternoon, September 22nd, at 2 p.m. from the home of Mr. Edward Shane, Clayton, to St. George's Church with Rev. D. F. Weegar conducting the service. Interment took place in the United Cemetery, Clayton. The pallbearers were George Fleming, Russell Andrews, J. M. Chapman,Thomas New, Herbert Rath and Clifford Dodsworth. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, three sons, Arthur of Ramsay, Lionel and Ray, and one daughter, Dorothy, all at home, also her mother Mrs. James Moore of Almonte; one sister, Mrs. E. R. Born in a log house on a farm in Almonte, Ontario on September 27, 1925. On February 3, 2019, at 93 years old, Doreen peacefully passed away while surrounded by family. She was predeceased in April, 2017 by her husband of 70 Years, Russell. Doreen's heart was most full when she had family near. She loved, guided, mentored, and cherished her children: Kerry (Linda), Boyne (Marilyn), Suzanne (John), and Lori (Roy). She was a nurturing Oma to Shannon Maker (Mike), Logan Saunders Matte, and Kayla Saunders Sikkema (Ben) and a caring Great-Oma to Charlotte, Amelie, Sienna, August, and Kase. Doreen is survived by her sister Ann Bourgoin, predeceased by her parents Milton and Elizabeth "Betty" More of Almonte and siblings: infant sister Doris, and brothers Logan (Jean), John (Ruth), Laurie and Bertram (Bernice). She was sister-in-law to Arnold (Winnie), the late Albert, Lucille, Joy, Richard, Merwin, Shirley, and Calvin. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews for her fun nature and love of life. For 17 years Doreen worked at the federal government. However, she found her true passion and meaning through years of leadership with children and young adults in various roles in Christian education over many decades and especially at Camp Bitobi and Gracefield Presbyterian Camp. Doreen was a chartered member and elder of St. Timothy's Presbyterian Church and then a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Doreen led a joyful, fulfilling and inspirational life by example and described her life as being truly blessed with great family and many wonderful friends.

Doreen married Russell Grimes "Russ" Saunders in 1946. Russell was born on 28 Dec 1923 in Carleton Place, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 5 Apr 2017 in Ottawa, Ottawa Municipality, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Almonte lost a life-long resident of town when Laurier Bryon More died December 25, 1997 at the age of 63. Mr. More was born in Almonte Dec. 8, 1934 to parents Milton More and Elizabeth Logan. He was educated in Almonte before becoming a mechanic. Mr. More was also a member of the Almonte Legion. He became ill in November before dying Christmas day. He is survived by daughters Gloria Stewart and Diane Potter of Ottawa, sisters Ann Levi-Bourgoin and Doreen Saunders of Ottawa, and brothers Logan More and John More of Almonte. He was predeceased by brother Bert and infant sister Doris. The funeral service took place at C.R. Gamble Funeral Home and Chapel Dec. 27 at 12 p.m., with Rev. Grant Wilson presiding. Auld Kirk Cemetery is the place of burial. Kerry Saunders, Boyne Saunders, Don Levi, Tom Stewart, Bob Potter and Jack MacDonald acted as pallbearers.
