Residents of the area were saddened to learn of the death recently of Thomas Allan Julian, who passed away at the Almonte General Hospital on January 19th,1970. Mr Julian had not been in good health for some time but had kept active until he was hospitalized with a stroke early in January. He was 85 years of age. Born in London, England, on New Year's Day, 1885, the son of Mr and Mrs George Julian, he came to Canada at the age of five and lived his entire life in and around Almonte. He worked as a gardener for the Rosamond family and other prominent Almonte families for several years before going into business as a carter. Mr Julian was a lifelong member of Almonte United Church and was for many years a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge. He was married in Almonte on August 21st, 1912 (by the Rev E.P.H. King), to the former Tillie Elizabeth More, who survives. Surviving besides his wife, are seven children: Maurice, Niagara Fall, Ontario; Versel, Leonard and Desmond of Wahnapitae, Ontario; Donald, Almonte; Gladys (Mrs George Mercer), Toronto, and Frances (Mrs Vincent Roach), Ottawa. He leaves 31 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, James and Walter, and a sister, Emily. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22nd, at 2.30 p.m. Rev Ian McDonald conducted the service, assisted by Canon H. Ploughman. Interment was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold More, Charles More, Milton More, Andrew More, Real Deslauriers and Eric Julian

Thomas married Tillie Elizabeth More in 1912. Tillie (daughter of Donald More and Sarah Ann Eliza Eastman) was born on 3 Sep 1894 in Russell Township, Russell County, Ontario, Canada; died on 4 Oct 1983 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Suddenly at his residence Perth, Ontario on Saturday, June 29, 1991. Donald A. Julian of Perth. In His 60th Year. Beloved husband of Romona LaChance. Dear father of Nancy (Mrs Dave Wilson), Cold Lake, Alberta; Linda (Mrs Mike McMullen), Lanark; Mike (Karen), Perth; Clifford (Dale), Smiths Falls and Delores (Mrs Morris Thompson), Perth. Dear brother of Versel; Maurice; Frances (Mrs Vincent Roach) and Gladys (Mrs George Mercer). Predeceased by 1 sister Rosamond and 1 brother Leonard. Also survived by 10 grandchildren. Friends called at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte. Service was held in the Chapel on Tuesday. Rev Clifford Evans officiated. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery.
