The funeral of Samuel John Gardiner took place on Monday, March 4, 1974 from the Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Ave. to St. James Anglican Church where the service was conducted by the Reverend F. A. McGregor, assisted by the Reverend D. F. Weegar. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Innisville, where Reverend H. H. Brown assisted Mr. Gardiner passed away on Friday, March 1, at his home in The Carlebridge, 81A Bridge St., Carleton Place. Born in Scotch Corners, Beckwith Township, July 17, 1904, he was the son of the late Thomas James Gardiner and his wife, the late Sarah Jane Rathwell. He attended St. John's Church, Innisville, then St. James Church after 1948, when he moved to Carleton Place. He is survived by his wife, the former Elsie M. Miller, of Carleton Place, his son, Allan, of town, two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Ray Ferrill) Ottawa, Shirley (Mrs. Frank Surette) Quebec City, P, Q. and ten grandchildren, Ted, Gwen, Rodger, Lorelei, Robbie, Donna, Debbie, Chris, Sharon and Adele; also a sister, Alice (Mrs. Cecil Jackson), Innisville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oliver and George. Honourary pallbearers were Mr. Alfred Poole, Mr. James C. Gardiner, Mr. Herb Rathwell, Mr. William Armstrong, Mr. George Crampton and Mr. Charles Menzies. Acting pallbearers were Mr. Francis Gardiner, Mr. Mel Dowdall, Mr. Thomas Gardiner, Mr. Arnold Jackson, Mr. Donald Miller, Mr. Frank Lowe.
Samuel married Elsie Mae Miller on 28 Jun 1928 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Elsie (daughter of William Johnson Miller and Mary Lauretta "Laura" Robertson) was born on 30 Oct 1904 in Clayton Village, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 25 Aug 2000 in Carleton Place, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in 2000 in St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Innisville, Lanark Highlands, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
