William Lawrie for many years a farmer in the Almonte district, passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Roy Gibbons, Ottawa. A son of the late Thomas Lawrie and the former Ellen McKillop, he was born in Ramsay Township in 1861. His marriage to the former Rebecca McCann, took place in 1898. She predeceased him seven years ago. Mr Lawrie retired from his farm 20 years ago, and in his late years had lived in Ottawa. Of a quiet disposition, he was highly esteemed and will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends. He was a member of St James United Church. He is survived by two daughters, Mary (Mrs Roy Gibbons), Ottawa, and Ann, (Mrs R.J. Burnside, of Peterboro, Ont, and by two grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J. Richmond Craig of St James United Church, at the parlours of Hulse & Playfair, 315 McLeod St., Ottawa. The remains were conveyed to Almonte for burial in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

William married Rebecca McCann on 22 Dec 1897 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Rebecca (daughter of James Richard McCann and Mary Kemp) was born on 8 Jul 1866 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 21 Apr 1931 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 23 Apr 1931 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. In hospital at Ottawa, Wed Dec 4, 1963, Mary Lawrie, widow of Roy Gibbons of 83 Fulton Ave., Ottawa, dear mother of Mrs H. Dosa (Helen), sister of Mrs R.J. Burnside of Cornwall. The funeral was held from the Hulse and Playfair Central Chapel, 314 McLeod St., Ottawa on Fri., Dec 6 at 1 p.m. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery.
