?b?Mrs Peter Cochran
?/b?The funeral was held, this Thursday afternoon, of Mrs Peter Cochran who passed away at the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte, on Tuesday, in her 81st year. Deceased, whose maiden name was Adeline Rule, was born at Rothsay, Ont., a daughter of the late William Rule and his wife Esther Watchorn. Some 54 years ago she married Mr Peter Cochran, well-known Ramsay Farmer, and resided in that township ever since. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mr Wilbert R. Cochran of Ramsay. A daughter Mrs Thomas Somerton, predeceased her several years ago. There are also, a brother and two sisters namely, Robert Rule, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs J.R. Fair of Winnipeg and Mrs Norman Binning of Listowel, Ont. Mrs Cochran was a very fine woman, much esteemed in the community where she resided for so many years. She was a member of the Almonte Presbyterian Church and took an active interest in its welfare. Four grandson acted as pallbearers at the funeral. Robert and Harvey Cochran and Fred and Wilbert Somerton of Pakenham. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev A.J. Fowlie conducting services at the home and graveside. Among the floral offerings were tributes from the N.L.A.S., in which she and her husband took a keen interest; the United Farm Women of Ramsay and the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church.

Adeline married Peter Cochran in 1886. Peter (son of Andrew Cochran and Isobel Erskine) was born on 31 Mar 1853 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Canada West; died on 2 Nov 1944 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 4 Nov 1944 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Wilbert married Janie Louise McArton in 1912. Janie (daughter of John McArton and Eliza Jane) was born on 21 Jan 1891 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 13 Oct 1997 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in 1997 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Esther's parents Thomas and Gertrude died Dec 11, 1935 on their way to the Almonte Poultry fair with Mr. Richard Burke. They were all killed after being hit by a freight train at a crossing in Pakenham, Ontario.
They had 8 children

(November 7, 1918 - February 4, 2002) AT AGE 83
Loving husband and best friend of Doris Isabel Paul. Almonte. Beloved father of Nancy (Mrs. Bob Korogyi), Lilburn, Georgia U.S.A. and Wendy Cochran, wife of Jim Curran, Toronto. Loving grandfather to Kristina Korogyi. Predeceased by his brother Bob (Jean). Brother- in-law of Clare (Marylou), Ella Paul (the late Bill) and Dorothy Nickerson (Bob). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral
At Harvey's request there was no visitation at the Funeral Home. A private family funeral service was held at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte in the CHAPEL on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Heather Kinkaid officiated. Interment at Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte in the Spring.

Water Street resident Frederick Oliver Somerton died July 21 at the Almonte General Hospital. He was 79. Mr Somerton was born in Pakenham June 18, 1916 to the late Thomas Somerton and the late Gertrude Somerton. He also went to school in Pakenham. He married Marguerite "Peg" Majaury, who predeceased him in 1974. Mr Somerton retired in 1980 after working 40 years at the Almonte Flour Mills. He took great pride trimming hedges and beautifying property of various clients in the Almonte area over that time also. He is survived by his companion Louise Parson, his sons Stuart of Appleton, Lynden (Joan) of Almonte and Gene (Mary Anne) of Arnprior, and his daughter Lois (Everett) White of Carleton Place. He is also survived by his brothers Wilbert (Louise) of Ottawa, Arthur (Mary Ann) of Toronto and Linden (Freda) of Pakenham and his sisters Esther (Ollie) Timmins of Pakenham, Claire (Duncan) Scott of Winnipeg an Doris (Bill) Robertson of Nepean. Blair Paterson led the funeral service at the Kerry Funeral Home July 26. Burial was at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
