    February 10, 1973 - The death occurred in the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital, Saturday, February 10th of William Oliver Gardiner, life long resident of Scotch Corners. Born January 25, 1901 , he was eldest son of the late Thomas J. Gardiner and his wife Sarah Rathwell. He was a member of John's Anglican Church, Innisville and an honorary Member of L.O.L. No. 92. On June 11, 1924 he was married to Marion Bennett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons T. Francis with Bell Canada and Kenneth G. with Lanark Mutual Fire Insurance Co., two daughters, Saidee, Mrs. K. G. Dowdall, St. George, Ont. and Thelma, Mrs. M. Dowdall, Carleton Place. There are nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter, a brother S. J. Gardiner Carleton Place and a sister, Mrs. Cecil Jackson, Innisville and a brother George, predeceased. Largely attended by relatives and friends the funeral took place from The Barker Funeral Home to St. John's Church and Cemetery on Monday, February 12, Rev. H. Brown officiating. The pallbearers were six nephews, John Sheil, Howard Bennett, Eric Robertson, Arnold Jackson, Allan Gardiner and Thomas Gardiner.

    George C. Gardiner Dies At 59 Years
    It was with regret that citizens of Carleton Place and district learned of the passing of a well known resident of Scotch Corners area, George Charles Gardiner, which occurred in the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday evening, August 22nd, following an illness of three weeks the result of a heavy heart seizure from which he failed to recover. Mr. Gardiner was 59. Born on October 27th, 1902, in Beckwith Township, he was a son of the late Mr. Thomas J. Gardiner and his late wife, the former Miss Sarah J. Rathwell and received his education at S.S. No. 10, Beckwith. The late Mr. Gardiner followed the occupation of a farmer at Scotch Corners and was one of tile best known throughout the County of Lanark. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church in Innisville, and of the 'Men's Association and a Past Warden of St. John's. Gardiner was a member of L.O.L. number 92, Innisville, and of the Royal Black Preceptory number 639 and served as a councillor of Beckwith Township, where he rendered faithful service, for many years. He was married in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, North Gower on September 11th, 1929, to the former Miss Mabel Mather who survives with one son, Mr. Thomas A. Gardiner, at home, and one daughter (Lillian) Mrs. Lyle McNab, of City View; also two brothers, Mr. Oliver Gardiner, Scotch Corners and Mr. Samuel Gardiner of Carleton Place and one sister (Alice) Mrs. Cecil Jackson of Innisville. Five grandsons also survive. The funeral, one of the largest witnessed in the community for many years, took place from his residence Saturday afternoon, August 25th, to St. John's Church where the service was held at two-thirty with Rev. Canon J. W. R. Meakin officiating. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ross Dezell, John Chamney, Lloyd Carnahan, James Gardiner, Clifford Gardiner and Mac James. Interment was made at St. John's cemetery. Numerous beautiful floral tokens were received, evidence of the very high esteem in which the late Mr. Gardiner was held and many friends from outside points attended the funeral as well as from Carleton Place and surrounding districts.

    The funeral of Samuel John Gardiner took place on Monday, March 4, 1974 from the Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Ave. to St. James Anglican Church where the service was conducted by the Reverend F. A. McGregor, assisted by the Reverend D. F. Weegar. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Innisville, where Reverend H. H. Brown assisted Mr. Gardiner passed away on Friday, March 1, at his home in The Carlebridge, 81A Bridge St., Carleton Place. Born in Scotch Corners, Beckwith Township, July 17, 1904, he was the son of the late Thomas James Gardiner and his wife, the late Sarah Jane Rathwell. He attended St. John's Church, Innisville, then St. James Church after 1948, when he moved to Carleton Place. He is survived by his wife, the former Elsie M. Miller, of Carleton Place, his son, Allan, of town, two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Ray Ferrill) Ottawa, Shirley (Mrs. Frank Surette) Quebec City, P, Q. and ten grandchildren, Ted, Gwen, Rodger, Lorelei, Robbie, Donna, Debbie, Chris, Sharon and Adele; also a sister, Alice (Mrs. Cecil Jackson), Innisville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oliver and George. Honourary pallbearers were Mr. Alfred Poole, Mr. James C. Gardiner, Mr. Herb Rathwell, Mr. William Armstrong, Mr. George Crampton and Mr. Charles Menzies.     Ossie McNeely, aged 88 years, of Carleton Place passed away peacefully Sunday, September 4, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Ossie's sense of humour, compassionate nature, and caring for others continued to shine through to his last breath. Son of the late Osmond and Ellen McNeely of Carleton Place. He is survived by his four siblings: Allan (Myrtle) McNeely, Bob (Karen) McNeely, Dave (Iris) McNeely and Dorothy (Ike) Smith.

    He is pre-deceased by his loving wife, Gwen (Hamilton) McNeely of 44 years. Dear father to Michael (Kelly) McNeely, Kim (Andy) Sparks, Ian (Tara) McNeely, Cathy (Bob) Haughian and Nadine (Patrick) O'Sullivan.

    Ossie leaves behind his companion and travel partner, Ruth Illingworth.

    Ossie loved music and singing and he spent many years pursuing his passion singing in the Capital City Chorus and numerous barbershop quartets. He was an active member throughout his life at the Westboro and Carleton Place Royal Canadian Legions; and he was a committed volunteer and fundraiser for many events around town. He was even known to step up as "Santa" and the "Easter Bunny" when called upon. Ossie was a kind and generous man and a loyal friend to many. At family gatherings he could always be found entertaining the children with songs and games. He will be forever missed by his grandchildren: Kaylin, Liam; Jenna (Jeff), Caitlin (Alex), Lauren; Cooper, Bennett, Olivia, Mariah (Kyle), Matthew (Virginia); Michael (Jessica); Emily (Tom) and Jeffrey; and his great-grandchildren: Andy, Will, Henry, Charlie, John, Blake, Benny and Ryder.

    Ossie's family wish to thank Dr Scott Higham/Dr Emilie Meyers and the amazing nurses and staff at the Carleton Place Hospital.

    A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Ave. Carleton Place on Thursday, September 8th from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel on Friday, September 9th at 11:00am, with a reception to follow at the Carleton Place Legion Branch 192, Carleton Place at 1:00pm.
