    On Sunday, April 8, 2018, with his family by his side, Charles Sherman Stanley, formerly of Denver, Colorado, died at his residence in Centreville, Virginia after a short battle with cancer.

    He was the beloved husband of Gladys Stanley for 71 years. Devoted father to Lisa and son-in-law John Collins and loving grandfather to Nicholas and Caroline. He is preceded in death by his father, George Stanley, his mother, Margaret Naismith Stanley, his brothers George and James Stanley and his sister, Margaret Lewis. He is also survived by his brother, Byron Stanley.

    Jack served in the Solomon Islands as a Navy Corpsman during WWII where he earned numerous awards and accolades for his achievements. After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Denver and Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan. He worked as a Public Health Specialist with the city of Denver, CO, and eventually joined the US Public Health Service Centers for Disease Control and was honorable discharged as a Captain after 25 years of service. While in the USPHS he served in Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, and American Samoa, the Philippines and the CDC in Atlanta, GA.

    He was a Master Mason of Harmony Lodge 61, Denver, Colorado and an avid bowler for 20 years. He lived by what he learned from his grandfather, Dr. James Naismith, that time, patience and perseverance can help conquer all
