Mrs John F. Gordon
Mrs Jno F. Gordon, a much esteemed resident of Ramsay township. passed peacefully away at her home on Tuesday, Dec 4th, at the age of 71 years. Her maiden name was Margaret Ann Evans, the eldest daughter of Wm Evans and Betsy Munro of Clayton. While quite young she became the wife of Adonijah Giles, who died in 1882. To them four children were born, Reuben of Blakeney; Robert W. of Almonte. Adonijah and Elizabeth A., Mrs Jacob Price of Sonningdale, Sask. The latter two predeceased her in 1916 and 1918 respectively. Some years later she married Jno F. Gordon, and this union was blessed with six children: Margaret, Mrs Tom Cavanagh, and Minnie, Mrs W.J. Elliott, of Sonningdale, Sask; William, 3rd line Ramsay; Eva, teacher in Crichton School, Ottawa; Findlay and Ada at home, All of these, with their father survive. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, Almonte and was held on Thursday, Dev 6th, at 2 o'clock to the Auld Kirk cemetery. During the service Mrs J. Reilly and Mrs Clarence Kellough, by request, sang sweetly, "On Calvary's Brow." The pallbearers were Messrs George Robertson, Angus Sutherland, P.Y. Sutherland, John Turner, Will Giles and Herbert Coxford, The following floral tributes attest to the love deceased had won in hearts of neighbours and friends and expressed their sympathy: Gate Ajar, the family; Wreaths, Staff of Crichton Public School, Ottawa, Mrs N.J. ?/i?The death occured early Sunday morning, August 6th, of a well-known resident of Almonte, Mrs. William H. Scott, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Coxford. She was in her 81st. year.

Mrs Scott was born at Clayton, a daughter of the late William Evans and his wife Betsy Munro. Fifty-eight years ago she married William H. Scott, who predeceased here eight years ago. Mrs. Scott had resided in Almonte for over 40 years. In religion she was Presbyterian. Following her husbands death she resided with her daughter.

Of a family of eight, six survive, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Herbert Coxford, Almonte; Mrs. Frank Snow, Fort William; Mrs George Vaniderstine, Moose Jaw; Harvey and James Scott, Almonte; and Alston of Melville, Saskatchewan. Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Geo. Pretty, Darling; Mrs Ida Prescott, Smiths Falls; Mrs Mort Young, Regina, Sask, and Abraham Evans of Clayton.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Coxford. The pallbearers were Roy Robertson, Harold Prescott, Roy Evans, Ernest Robertson, Findlay Gordon and Wm. Pretty. Interment was in the Auld Kirk cemetery.

REUBEN GILES
Reuben Giles, a retired railroader, died on Thursday, October 22. He was in his 86th year and was born at Union Hall and resided there for some twenty-five years. He then moved to Blakeney where he lived until his wife; the former Bertha McArthur died some twenty-two months ago. He then moved to Almonte to live with his daughter and son-in-law. While in Blakeney he made many friends where he was known as a good neighbour. He suffered failing eyesight for some twenty years, which became an increasing handicap. Mr. Giles was one of a family of four, one of whom survives, namely Robert Giles of Almonte. There are also four half-sisters, Mrs. Eva Rankin, Ottawa; Mrs. Ada Traill, Smiths Falls; Mrs. Margaret Corrigan, Spruce Lake, Sask., and Mrs. Minnie Elliott, Sonningdale, Sask. Two half-brothers are deceased. Though Mr. Giles had been in failing health for some time the end came suddenly, and unexpectedly. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. to the Auld Kirk. Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. George Arthur, James Bingham, George Robertson, Stewart Paterson, Lloyd Giles and Orville Giles.

Robert William Giles
Mr Robert W. Giles passed away suddenly in Almonte General Hospital on September 2nd, 1970. Mr Giles was born in Ramsay Township on October 24, 1875, a son of the late Adonijah Giles and wife Margaret Evans. He was married in 1903 to the former Jean McArthur who predeceased him in 1948 Surviving are two sons, Ernest and Allan and five daughters, Mrs N.T. Sadler (Jean), Mrs Rae (Florence), Mrs Baird (Laura), all of Almonte, Mrs F. Obrey (Mary) of Rnefrew and Mrs W.J. Carpenter (Eleanor) of Smiths Falls and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by twins, a son and daughter. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs W. Elliott (Minnie) of Sonningdale, Sask, Mrs B. Traill (Ada) of Smiths Falls and Mrs E. Rankin (Eva) of Ottawa. Two brothers, Edward and Reuben and one sister, Elizabeth predeceased him and two half brothers, Findlay Gordon and William Gordon. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, on Saturday, September 5, 1970, with burial in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev Robert McCrea of Almonte United Church conducted the service. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Elford Giles, Ivan Giles, Robert Giles, Robert Sadler, Donald Carpenter and Merville McGrath.

Elizabeth Ann (Giles) Price :1916

Deep sorrow was spread throughout the community when word was received of the sudden death of Elizabeth Ann Giles, wife of Jacob Price of Sonningdale, Sask. She took suddenly ill on Monday night. Medical aid was summoned and it was decided to remove her to St. Paul's hospital, Saskatoon, for an operation for appendicitis. On Friday morning five doctors and three nurses held a consultation, but could not really define the trouble but thought an operation was the only hope of recovery. On Saturday morning the operation was performed, from which she never rallied. Death came, a happy release, to her pain, on Saturday afternoon about two o'clock. The remains were brought to her home at Sonningdale, whence the funeral took place on Monday afternoon, Sept. 25th. The service was conducted at the house and grave by Rev. Mr. Farnsworth, interment being made at Sonningdale cemetery. The deceased was a devout member of the Sonningdale union church, and her funeral was the largest ever seen at Sonningdale. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and three little children; Octavia, aged six; Laurietta, five; and Ila, one year and eight months. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. John F. Gordon, Almonte; Three brothers, Reuben, at Blakeney, Robert at Jamieson, and Eddie in Brockville hospital, and six half-brothers and sisters; Maggie (Mrs. Tom Corrigan) and Minnie both of Sonningdale, Findlay, Willie, Eva and Ada at home.

Elizabeth married Jacob Price on 18 Mar 1909 in Winnipeg, Greater Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Mr J. Findlay Gordon
Following a year's illness, the death occurred at his home in Ramsay, on Thursday, August 20 of Mr J. Findlay Gordon in his 54th year. He was a son of Mr John F. Gordon and his wife, the late Margaret Ann Evans and was born on the homestead where he spent his entire lifetime. Two years ago he married Florence Cavanagh, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lemuel W. Cavanagh of Kinburn, who survives him. He also leaves his aged father; one brother William of Appleton; two half-brothers, Reuben Giles of Blakeney and Robert Giles of Almonte; four sisters, Mrs Maggie Corrigan and Mrs W. Elliott of Sonningdale, Sask.; Mrs D. Boyd Trail of Drummond Township and Miss Eva of Ottawa. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from the family home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev W.J. Scott of Bethany United Church, Almonte conducting the services. Pallbearers were Messrs Gordon McFarlane of Ottawa; Herbert Coxford, Almonte; D. Boyd Trail, Drummond; William Gordon, Morris Turner and Harvey Paterson of Ramsay. Honourary pallbearers were the two half-brothers and Mrs Lemuel Cavanagh of Kinburn and Mr Geo Robertson, Ramsay. The late Mr Gordon farmed all his life and was well-known and respected by all those in the district where he made his home. Many floral tributes testified to the esteem in which he was held.

William Gordon
William Gordon, a well-known and much loved resident of Ramsay Township, passed away suddenly in Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte, on Tuesday, July 17th. The late Mr Gordon farmed all his life in this community. In 1920 he married Carrie Manson, of Middleville who with a family of three survives: Margaret, at home; Earl, of Vancouver, B.C.; Ethel, Mrs Clifford Melanson, of Cedar Hill. Four sisters and two half-brothers also survive: Mrs Maggie Corregan, Spruce Lake, Sask; Mrs Minne Elliott, Sonningdale, Sask; Mrs Eva G. Rankin, Ottawa; Mrs Ada Traill, Smiths Falls; Reuben Giles, Blakeney; Robert Giles, Almonte. His elder brother, Findlay, predeceased him fourteen years ago. Service was conducted at his late residence on Saturday, July 20 by Mr Arthur Powley, Cornwall. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Beautiful floral tributes from close relatives testified to their love and esteem. A donation to the British and Foreign Bible Society was made in tribute by Reta Traill. Other gracious and practical gestures on the part of the neighbours and a large circle of friends were indicative of the respect in which Mr Gordon was held and carried a message of sympathy to the bereaved family. The pallbearers were: Messrs Earl and Frank Manson, Bert and Roy Evans, Tom Barr and Ernie Giles.

William Harvey Scott
Fitting tribute to the memory of the late william Harvey Scott was paid at his funeral on Thursday Nov 5th, by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives.
Mr Scott had been in apparent good health until 10 days before his death when he suffered a heavy stroke from which he did not rally. He passed away on tuesday, Nov 3rd, in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital. He was in his 72nd year.
Born in Ramsay Township in Union Hall district, Mr Scott was a son of the late William Henry Scott and his wife, Rachel Evans. When he was 10 years of age, the family moved to the farm near Almonte now owned by Ernest Robertson. Ashort time later they moved to town.
As a young man, he entered the employy of the rosamond Woollen Company where he served for many years as an overseer of thew Warping and winding Department.
In 1907, he married Miss Mary E. Davis of Almonte who survives with tow sons, Harvey Arthur and Edward Davis, and one grandson, David Scott. Ason, Kenneth Bethune, predeceased him at the age of 18 years. He also leaves two sisters, Ila, Mrs Herbert Coxford, of Almonte and Bessie, Mrs Geo Van Iderstine of Saskatoon; and one brother, James Scott of Melville, Sask.
Mr. Scott was a quiet, kindly man who was popular with a large circle of friends. He loved the outdoors and derived great pleasure from his frequent fishing trips to White Lake.
He was a member of Almonte United Church
He Rev J. Ray Anderson officiated at the service which was held at his home, Malcolm Street, Almonte.
The pallbearers were Messrs Chas Houston, Louis Peterson, Harold Prescott, Geo Pretty, Wm Munro and Walter Morton.
among the beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the employees of the Rosamond Woolen Company and Carleton Wholesale Limited.
Internment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
Among those who attended the funeral from a distance was his brother, Mr james Scott of Melville, Sask; Mrs Scott's sister, Mrs W.J. Carnahan of Chapleau and Mr Carnahan and relatives and friends from Smiths Falls, Kemptville and Ottawa.

"I was given that information by Don Evans the son of Roy Evans who lives on the family farm at Burrits Rapids. Don's Great Grand mother was Eliza Jane Giles who married Daniel Richard Evans. I have a number of photos of the Evans family. Don gave me access to all his mothers family research. I also communicated with a lady who was a decendant of Catherine Evans and Mortimer James Young. She lives in Saskatchewan, I visited her about 15 Years ago."

Obituary: Mrs. Herb Coxford

A long time resident of Almonte, Sarah Ila Scott Coxford passed away at the Almonte Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness, on Monday November 4th. in her 88th year.
Born at clayton, Ontario, on April 12th 1887, she was the eldest daughter of William Henry Scott and Rachel Evans. Several years later the family moved to Almonte.
In 1910 she married Herbert L. Coxford, of Almonte, who predeceased her in 1964. She was a member of Almonte United Church and in her younger years took part in many organizations of the Church.
She is survived by one son, and three daughters: Edwin, winnipeg; elizabeth (Mrs R. Duncan), Almonte; Kathleen (Mrs C. M. Thomson) Mississauga; Ruth. (Mrs K. Fresque), Ottawa; and twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Surviving is a sister, Bessie (Mrs George Van Iderstine), Saskatoon. Four brothers and one sister predeceaseed her, Harvey, Eddie, Alston, James and Lucy (Mrs Frank Snow)
the funeral was held November 6th, 1974, from the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte, rev Robert McCrea of the Almonte United Church conducted the service. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald Johnston, Edward Scott, John Thomson, Donald Duncan, Eric Fresque and Dwight Christensen.

A Tragedy
The closing hours of Good Friday were marked with as sad an occurance as has been recorded in Almonte in many years - the accidental death of Thomas Edward Scott. He was a son of W. H. Scott of New England and a boy well known and well liked in town. He was just beginning to develop and gave every promise of making a fine athlete. It seems hard to realize that one so full of the vigour of life should so suddenly be called away. He was alighting from a freight at the station about eight o'clock Friday evening when in some manner he slipped and fell under the wheels. His leg was completely severed. Medical help was quickly on hand, and he was removed to the hospital, but the loss of blood and shock had been too much and the power we call life departed Saturday evening. He was sixteen years of age. The funeral on Monday was very large. Among the floral tributes were: Wreath from the Victoria hockey team, wreath from the knitters' hockey team and a pillow from his chums.

The family's residence at that time was Oxford Mills. He was with the Second Depot Battalion E.O.R. Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in England. He was discharged July 3, 1919. In 1921 he married Sarah Ellen Weir and they lived in the Oxford Mills area. He died in 1980 and is buried in Oxford Mills Union Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George G. Pretty, and received his early education at Tetlock. In 1925 he married the former Helen Poxan. He leaves his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Fred Miller (Marjorie) of Ottawa; three sisters, Mrs. Nobel Hess, of Kansas Qty, Mrs. Joshua Scoit of Renfrew and Mrs. William Traill of Lanark. Mr. Pretty leaves, also, four brothers, Elwood and James of Carleton Place; Preston, of Chicago; William, of Manotick. Tin funeral was from his home, near Clayton, to St. George's Anglican Church, here. Rev. M. Oldman and Rev. J. E. Allsopp conducted the service.

The very sudden death of Mr. George Pretty on Monday afternoon, July 11th was a shock to everyone. He had been in his usual good health, worked at drawing in the hay in the forenoon, had his dinner and rested as usual. Early in the afternoon he complained of not feeling well and when on the way to a doctor in Almonte, he passed away. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Pretty and was born in Darling Township and was in his 61st year. He was married in September, 1926 to Helen Poxon who survives, also one daughter, Marjorie, Mrs. Fred Miller and one grand-daughter little Janet Miller. A son Thorold died in 1947. He is survived by four brothers, Elwood of Carleton Place; William of Manotick; Preston of Chicago; James of Carleton Place. Three sisters, Mildred, Mrs. Joshua Scott of Renfrew; Dorcas, Mrs. Noble Hess, Kansas City; Elizabeth, Mrs. William Traill of Lanark Village. The funeral which was one of the largest ever seen here was, held on Thursday afternoon, July 14 from his late residence to St George's Anglican Church, Clayton where a very impressive service was conducted by the rector, Rev. M. F. Oldham, assisted by Rev. J. A. Allsopp of Ottawa, a former rector of Clayton. Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Kansas City, De Ruyter, N. J., Renfrew, Manotick, Smiths Falls, Oxford Mills, Lanark, Carleton Place, Almonte and surrounding district. Mr. Pretty was a wonderful friend to many and he will be sadly missed. He was always helping someone especially where there was sickness or trouble of any kind and took a keen interest in the affairs of the community. The pallbearers were Messrs, Dave McIntosh, Edgar Hudson, Wilfred J. Halpenny, Alex Rintoul, Mack Thompson, Andrew Munro. Flower bearers were Jack McIntosh, Gary Hudson, Wilmer Bellamy, Charlie Rath, Louis Ladouceur, Stanley Armstrong, Hector Miller. Interment was in the United Cemetery at Clayton.

Mrs Peter A.E. Young
Following an illness of several months, the death occurred on Saturday, Jan 4th of Mrs Peter A.E. Young at the family residence, Cameron Street. Deceased was the former Sarah Ann Giles and was born in Ramsay Township, a daughter of the late Reuben Giles and his wife, Ann Duncan. In April 1904, she married Mr P.A.E. Young of Almonte and made her home in this town ever since. She is survived by one son, Ernest of Asbestos, Que, and by four brothers, namely, Albert of Almonte; George of Eden Mills, Ont; James of Smiths Falls and Robert John of Ottawa. Two other brothers predeceased her some time ago. Duncan of Thurso, Que, and Thomas of Smiths Falls. Mrs Young always took an active interest in church work and among the floral offerings was one from Circle Number Three of Bethany United Church. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the family home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery, services being conducted by Rev W.J. Scott, pastor of the church, which deceased attended. The pallbearers were Messrs W.A. Young, Dr. J.K. Kelly, T.J. Reid, Jno Easton, M.R. Young and George Etherington of Arnprior.

Sarah married Peter Alfred Ernest Young in 1904. Peter (son of Peter C. Young, Jr. and Anne Anderson) was born on 19 Dec 1872 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 2 Jul 1950 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Ernest Clarence Giles
Long-time Almonte resident Ernest Clarence Giles died Aug 21 in the Almonte General Hospital at age 86. He was born in Fitzroy Township June 10, 1907 to the late Robert Giles and the late Jean MacArthur Giles. On April 24, 1929 he married the late Irene Marion Stewart MacGregor in Arnprior. A stationary engineer, Mr Giles lived most of his life in the Almonte and Renfrew areas. he was an elder with the Almonte Presbyterian Church. Mr Giles was a past master to the Royal Black Preceptory 639, Loyal Orange Lodge 378 and the Orange Young Britons 257. The Hope Street resident owned a 1906 Sawyer Massey steam engine which he exhibited at fairs around the area. Mr Giles is survived by sons Menzie of Ottawa and Elford of Almonte. daughter Irene Rath and sisters Mary Obrey, Laura Baird. Jean Sadler and Eleanor Carpenter. He was predeceased by son Ivan, brother Ivan and sister Florence Rae. Rev Grant Wilson led the funeral service at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home Aug 24 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael, Ian, Brent, and Scott Giles and Rodney and Dale Rath

Kenneth Bethune Scott
Kenneth Bethune Scott passed away at 18 years of age, after a lengthy illness. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Harvey W Scott and was a native of Almonte. He was a particularly promising boy, a good student at the High School and a fine athlete. The race he ran two or three years ago when he won the Junior Hundred Yards at the High School sports day was spectacular and was long talked of.
He was a good musician playing the violin well.
Of an engaging disposition he endeared mimself to many and it was a shock to them to learn that there was little or no hope of his recovery, when he became ill. He himself never gave up hope, until the very last, and always spoke cheerfully of his condition.
He was an active member of Bethany United Young People's Society and the Sunday School. He had the faculty of throwing himself, heart and soul, into everthing in which he was interested.
Besides his parents he leaves to mourn his loss two younger brothers - Arthur and Edward.
The deep sympathy of the community found expression in the large attendance at the funeral on Wednesday, and in the magnificent flower tokens. Very impressive services were conducted by Rev. J. R. MacCrimon and Rev. J. T. E. Blanchard. The pallbearers were six of his schoolboy friends; Lawrence Barrowclough, Howard Allison, Eric Smith, Hedley Porter, Kenneth Fraser, and Stewart Johnston. his remains were interred in the auld Kirk Cemetery.

World War II veteran Ed Scott died Oct 28

Almonte resident and World War II veteran Ed Scott will be remembered for both his heroics and his humanity. Mr. Scott, a lifelong resident of Almonte, died at his home on Malcolm Street Oct 28. He was 85.
"He was just a super guy," remarked fellow WW ll veteran and Almonte resident J.C. Smithson. "I knew him from day one. from school days. We went to public school and high school together, then when the war came along, we both left Almonte."
While in the military, Mr Scott was a member of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders, which in turn was part of the ninth Canadian Infantry Brigade. This allegiance resulted in the young soldier seeing action overseas. According to documentation provided to the Gazette by Smithson, the boat carrying Mr. Scott sailed June 4, 1944 (D-Day) from England to France. Come January 12, 1945 and with snow on the ground, wartime action saw a German patrol; camouflaged in white suits, get too close to an "A" Company platoon, Ed challenged the first figure he saw, eventually shooting him in the head. This occurred around 5:45 a.m.
"They would use various passwords, and at this particular time the password was 'big dick' " Smithson said. "When Eddy asked this fellow for the password and didn't hear 'big dick', he shot him between the eyes."
The alarm brought up the rest of the platoon and they engaged the Germans. Private Scott's shot had killed the officer. It was this incident that earned Mr Scott the prestigious Military Medal. Shortly after receiving the medal, Mr. Scott much correspondence from military dignitaries, including then Governor General Vincent Massey.
"May I congratulate you very warmly indeed on the decoration which you have been awarded." Massey wrote in a letter addressed to Scott. "We are all proud that such fine service as you have given has thus been recognized. With all good wishes in which Mrs Massey joins."
Smithson said that, from what he knew of Mr Scott's personality back then, he would have been a great asset to any and all wartime battles he may of been a part of.
"He was a fast moving fellow who never sat around and did nothing - he was very active." Smithson explained. "He would do anything for his buddies or his fellow man, so I can fully understand why he did hold back during that charge."

Even when they were boys, Smithson recalled quite a bit of excitement surrounding the things Mr Scott did.
"He was a normal school boy, but a bit gung ho" he stated." He never backed down from too much. I remember when we were in high school; my family was not well enough off for me to have a bicycle, but Eddy had a little bicycle with no fenders. I'd ride on the cross bar and he'd take from the high school, across town and down the Bay hill, which at that time was not paved. I was picking sand out of my teeth a lot back then, but at least I had a ride and didn't have to walk all the way home. He was such a great guy."
Following his return from the war, Mr Scott and his brother Arthur (Dinty) purchased and operated the Superior Restaurant.
"They operated the restaurant for a number of years and did a good job with it" Smithson said. "Their favourite special for us young fellows was the chocolate milkshake. Following his funeral and the gathering at the cemetery, many of us gathered at the superior to talk about Eddy and old times."
"The last time I saw Eddy before the war was probably in early December of 1840," he said. "I spent my last visit before I went overseas at the Superior, having a coke with Eddy and another friend, George Jackman, George was sent to Japan and ended up a prisoner and was executed. His family never really found out what exactly had happened."
Mr Scott had planned to attend this thursday's Remembrance Day ceremony in Almonte, but now his memory will be in the for front of the minds on many on hand to observe Nov 11.
"Ed Scott was a very fine citizen, a great guy who loved to fish and boat, and who had a cottage at White Lake," Smithson recalled. "He really enjoyed getting away and simply enjoying that relaxing lifestyle."
Mr Scott was predeceased by his wife Una Hazel Jelly and his brothers Arthur and Bethune Scott. He is survived by his nephew David (Barbara) Scott, Owen (Sharon) Jelly and rich (Marg) Morgan; nieces Lynn (Jack) Cullen, Judy (Gilles) Belanger, Jan (Les) Reynolds; many great-nephews and great-nieces and cousins.
Visitation and funeral were held at the Kerry funeral Home Oct 30. Rev Heather Kinkaid officiated. Interment was at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Ed was a veteran of W.W.II and a proud member of the S.D.&G. Highlanders. A recipient of the Military Medal, he served his country with pride as a member of the landing force on Juno Beach, June 6, 1844.

The family would like to thank friends and neighbours who particularly over the past six years, since Una's death, shared their companionship and company with Ed. Special thanks to Elford Giles, Alan Cochran and Linda and Lindsay Thomas without whom Ed could not have fulfilled his wish to remain in his home. You truly demonstrate the qualities of small town living; the reason Ed was proud to call Almonte his home for 85 years.

JAMES STUART (STU) SCOTT February 15, 1937 - October 15, 2011 With great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend Stu Scott after a courageous bout with cancer. He will be greatly missed by sons Kelly and Kevin and daughter Corinne; daughter-in-law Shelley and son-in-law Troy; grandchildren Lindsay and Aidan; sisters Lois and Dorothy and brother Ken; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey in 2007. Dad was born in Almonte, Ontario and moved to Melville, Saskatchewan as a child. He spoke fondly about his first job working as a teenager for the CN, where he was to spend several years. Later on he had had an extensive career in the financial services industry, culminating in a long, rich and rewarding career with the Royal Bank, serving as branch manager for many different Winnipeg locations over the years. The relationships he formed were always long-lasting and loyal. His retirement years allowed him the chance to experience cabin life - his cabin near Seven Sisters was his home away from home where he and Audrey spent many happy seasons. As a father he was always one hundred percent supportive and committed to the plans of his children and his generosity was unparalleled. We will miss dad's calming presence, his warm and friendly voice and his selfless dedication to family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Evangel Chapel, 1073 St. Mary's Road on Friday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of CancerCare Manitoba.

Loving husband of Nicole (Dumas) Melanson for 35 years. Beloved stepfather to Christian (Ad?le) Pag?. Cherished Grandpapa Bill to the "apple of his eye" Am?lie Pag?. Brother of the late Donald Melanson (Norma) and the late Kenneth Melanson. Brother-in-law to Helen Lowe (the late Russell), R?jeanne Lacroix (the late Myles). Son of the late Clifford and the late Ethel (Gordon) Melanson. Bill will also be missed by his nephews, nieces and many friends who loved him greatly. Retired teacher, he leaves behind a legacy of 32 years with Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa. At Bill's request, no service will be held. She was born on May 10, 1954 in Brockville, Ontario a daughter of the late Harvey & Muriel (Evans) Valcour. She attended schools in Lyn, Ontario grade school and Ogdensburg Free Academy for her education. She worked at the Ogdensburg Free Academy Cafeteria for a period.

She was a member of the Ogdensburg Am Vets Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo, gambling, deer watching, watching TV, rummage sales, raising miniature horses and going for rides.

Surviving is her longtime companion Timothy Tynon; her son Mark Valcour & his wife Missy of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Nicholas, Tanner & Ava Valcour; a brother Ron Valcour & his wife Alinda of Brockville, Ontario; two sisters Audrey VanDusen & her husband Jack of Lyn, Ontario and Eunice Tynon of Ogdensburg; a special friend Vicky McGaw of Ogdensburg along with several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Two brothers Doug & Gord Valcour & a sister Elaine Hall predeceased her.

Burial was made at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ogdensburg.
