Mrs. John Whitson

Mrs. John Whitson died Saturday at the home of her son, William, at Berthold, North Dakota. The body was brought to Fergus Falls, Minn., for burial, the funeral being held Monday. Her son, Russell, of this city, attended the funeral. Mrs. Whitson was ninety years of age March 12th, last. She was a resident of Northfield until six years ago when she went to Berthold to live with her son.

Berthold Woman Died at the Age of 90 Years.

Berthold Tribune: Mrs. Jane Whitson, who has been making her home in this city for several years, died early Saturday Morning, September 1, at the home of her son, William A. Whitson, at the advanced age of 90 years. While the deceased had been a partial invalid for some few years past it was not until about a year ago that she became bedridden. She was a woman of wonderful vitality and her mental faculties were unimpared almost up to the end. In spite of her pain and helplessness she has always been as patient and cheerful as could be expected when her age and condition is considered.

Private funeral services, conducted by Rev. M.W. Hiner, were held at the residence Saturday afternoon and on the following morning the remains were shipped to Fergus Falls, Minn., for interment.

The deceased was born March 12, 1827, near Smith's Falls, Can., and was married Feb. 28, 1850. Nine children were born to this union, seven of whom survive her, namely Robert and Russell of Northfield, Minn., Mrs. Jas. Thompson, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, John of Sauk Center, Minn., Albert of Fergus Falls, Minn., Mrs. Thomas Nephew of Sawyer, N. Dak., and William of Berthold, N. Dak.?/b?

There passed away at the Vanguard hospital on Dec 23, an old and respected residen of the Vanguard district at the ripe old age of 80 years and 6 months. Although being in poor health for three years, the old gentleman was often seen around town, cheery and fond of a chat. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, Dec 24, service being held in the Burton Schoolhouse by Rev. S.W. Crouch, and was largeley attended Interment was made in Burton cemetery.The late Andrew Lawson was born at Lombardy, Ontario, on June 30, 1848 and resided there until coming to Vanguard district in 1912. Almonte Gazette

Born at Lombardy near Perth, 62 years ago. Learned harness making at Perth and later had shops at Lanark and Almonte. 1856 he went into the hotel business at Quyon. Wife Susannah Dunkin who died 4 years ago. Children John of Almonte, Walter, barrister of Eganville, Mrs Smith, Miss Cynthia of Quyon. A sister is Mrs Harrison of South Haven Michigan, U S A.

Note: The Almonte Gazette article indicated that Walter Lawson and his wife Susannah went into the hotel business in Quyon, Quebec but they were still in Almonte in 1891 Census and in in Quyon in 1901 Census. Date is likely a miss print and should indicate 1896.

At Quyon, Quebec, May 11th, Mr Walter Lawson, aged 66 years.

Mr Walter Lawson Sr.
The inevitable doom of mankind came to Mr Walter Lawson, sr, of Quyon on Saturday last, when he was called upon to pass the boundary that lies between the material and spiritual worlds. Deceased was born in Lombardy in 1841, and served his time to harness-making with Mr Ferrier at Perth. He afterwards went to Lanark, and a few years later came to Almonte, where he opened a harness shop on Mill street. He afterwards bought the property and erected the brick store now occupied by Messrs Taylor Bros. In later years he embarked in the livery business and built a large livery barn on Bridge street and also the brick dwelling now occupied by Dr Hanly, on the lot adjoining. Still later he erected the brick structure now occupied by Mr Jackson Lowe. Deceased was married to Miss Susanna Duncan and to them were born five children, the eldest of whom is dead. The others are, Messrs John of Almonte, and Walter of Eganville, Miss Cynthia and Mrs Smith (Gertrude) of Quyon. Mr Lawson went to Quyon in 1996 and has since lived there. while in Almonte he was for some time cheif of police and assessor for the town. He has suffered for some time from Bright's disease, but was only laid up for about ten days previous to his death. He was 66 years of age. The funeral took place on Tuesday from Quyon to the eighth line cemetery in Ramsay. Many in Almonte who knew Mr Lawson will regret to learn of his death.

Ferrier - In Perth, on Saturday, August 4th, Mr. John A. Ferrier, aged 72 years.

Ferrier - After conducting his harness business as usual last Friday, Mr. John A. Ferrier was suddenly seized with illness that night and death followed early on Saturday morning the news of which caused a great shock to his wide circle of friends and acquaintances in Perth and surrounding district. The late John A. Ferrier was born in Perth on Dec. 17, 1850 of Scottish parents who in the early days had founded a harness and saddlery business in Perth in which he was an apprentice. In his earlier days he resided in the United States, later returning to Perth and for years engaged in business at the corner of Gore and Herriott streets, and afterwards on Wilson street West and his products had a wide sale. Deceased was of a quiet and retiring disposition but enjoyed the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact either in a business or friendly way. Deceased was a member of St. Andrew's Church in long standing and in which he was a faithful and constant worshipper. Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Katherine Buffam of Fallbrook, two sons Messrs. Bertrand and Byron of Perth, three daughters, Miss Helen of Perth, Mrs. Leister and Miss Anna of Toronto, one sister, Mrs. Thomas Gibbons of Brockville, and one brother, Mr. William Ferrier of Perth. The funeral was held from his late residence on Monday afternoon to Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Scott conducting the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. G.G. Farmer, Peter Hope, W.J. Rabb, W.J. Flett, T.J. Devlin and John Croskery.

On Monday morning, after a severe struggle for nearly a fortnight with the prevailing influenza, our much esteemed townsman Walter Ferrier died at his residence on Gore Street at the age of 36 years. His death was the source of general sorrow in town where his genial and agreeable manners and his sterling integrity were known and appreciated. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of A.O.U. Workmen Society of which he was a member. Mr. Ferrier conducted a prosperous harness business here for some years and was an honorable businessman. He was on the Board of Managers of St. Andrew's (Presbyterian) Church and from his religious convictions was well prepared to die. He leaves a widow and child. Mr. Ferrier held life assurance in the Workmen's Society, Canada Life, for $5,000.

Dr John Lawson, V.S. an almost lifelong resident of the town of Almonte, where he was held in high respect and esteem, died at an early hour this morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. He was in his 58th year. Dr Lawson had taken up residence in Ottawa only three months ago. With the exception of a short stay in California, he had resided in his native town of Almonte practically all his life.

Deceased was a son of the late Walter Lawson, who conducted a livery establishment at Almonte and subsequently a hotel at Quyon, Quebec, and the late Susannah Duncan. After attending the Almonte High School, Dr Lawson studied at the Ontario Veterinary College at Toronto and was graduated in the early eighties. Dr Lawson's calling brought him in contact with many people in the Almonte district and Lanark county. He enjoyed the respect of all. He was also a popular figure at local fairs and harness horse meets. Dr Lawson was a member of A.N. and A.M. He is survived by his wife formerly Miss Elizabeth Cunningham, of Almonte, and six children, five daughters, Mrs. G. N Loveday, of Toronto, Florence, Susie, Beth and Jean, at home; and one son James, at home. He also leaves one brother, Mr Walter Lawson, of Eganville and two sisters, Mrs Alfred D. Smith and Mrs J.B McMurtry, both of Quyon, Quebec.

A funeral service will be conducted at the residence, 74 Frank Street, Ottawa by Rev Canon J.N. Gorman, rector of St. John's Anglican Church, at seven o'clock this evening. The remains will afterwards be conveyed to Union station, Sparks Street, and will be placed on board the C.P.R.train leaving for Almonte at 8:30 o'clock, Thursday morning. Dr. Lawson will be buried with Masonic honors. The body, on arrival in Almonte, will be taken in charge by members of the Masonic Lodge there, and the funeral to the Anglican cemetery in Almonte will be conducted under their auspices.

The death occurred at a local hospital this morning of Dr. John Lawson, veterinary surgeon of Almonte Ont, but late of this city, at th age of 55 years. The late Dr. Lawson was suddenly taken with pneumonia a short time ago and this was the immediate cause of his death. Born In Almonte, on July 11, 1904, he secured his early education in that town and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College In Toronto in the early 80's. For a short time he practiced in California, but later returned to Almonte. He toured through the West with the main object of locating there, but came back and three months ago came to the city. He was a member of the Almonte Lodge of th A.F. and A.M. Surviving are his wife and six children: James Lawson, the only son, and five daughters. Mrs. George Loveday of Toronto, and the Misses Florence, Jean, Susie and Beth Lawson, all in the city; also one brother and two sisters. A funeral service will be held at his brother's home, 74 Frank street, this evening at seven o'clock. Interment will bo made In Almonte tomorrow morning upon arrival there of the C. P. R. train leaving here at eight-thirty o'clock.

Friday, Oct 17, 1930,The Late Mr. Walter Lawson. Death summoned on Oct. 6, Mr. Walter Lawson of Eganville. For a period of 38 years he conducted a Law Business in Eganville, became the confident and friend and advisor of countless Clients and eventually achieved a reputation as one of the cleverest Division Court Lawyers in Eastern Ontario. In addition to his legal duties he on occasion devoted time and talents to civic interest. He served as Reeve of Eganville and was an active participant in parliamentary contest. His ability as a platform speaker was unquestioned. A tribute to his worth and many like able qualities was the loyalty and implicit trust under all circumstances of his clientele. His impet--cey? and frankness of speech were characteristics but his intimate friends knew he was generous of heart and was quick to respond to charitable appeals. He filled a unique place in this community and with a numerous body of friends his death is most sincerely regretted. The late Mr. Lawson was born at Almonte, Nov. 6, the son of Walter and Sussanah Lawson. His early education was received at the Almonte Public and High Schools, and the deciding on the profession of Law took the higher studies in Canadian Universities. Before coming to Eganville, Mr. Lawson spent some time in Chicago and Cincinnati.In Sept. 1897 he married Margaret Foy of Eganville and of their family two sons and three daughters are living, namely Dr. Walter Lawson, and Misses Margaret and Mary of Yonkers, N.Y., William and Justine of Eganville. Mrs. Lawson died on November 18, 1913. Five years later Mr. Lawson married Lena Hein (Behnke), who survives; Mrs. Smith and Mrs. McMurtry of Quyon (Quebec) are sisters of the deceased.The Funeral was held on Wednesday morning to St James Church and cemetery with a large attendance of town people and representative citizens from Prmbroke, Killaloe and Douglas. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. I. A. French P. P., with an impressive discourse on death by Rt. Rev. Mesgre. French of Renfrew. Internment followed in St. James Cemetery; Dr. J. A. Lambertus, Messrs. Alf Smith of Quyon, Pat'k Furlong, Thomas Brongham and Wm. George.Besides the numerous spiritual offerings, flowers were received from the county of Renfrew Law Association; from Mr. and Mrs. Simpson of Ottawa, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Galligan, Mr. W.K.
