    James Warren Is Killed Overseas
    Young Carleton Place Man Victim of Plane Crash in England
    News of the first R.C.A.F. casualty from this district was received here on Friday with the deepest regret. James Warren, sergeant observer with the R.C.A.F. in England, was killed in a flying accident on Tuesday, June 17, according to a cablegram received by his wife on Friday last, from military authorities in England. The cablegram read: "Regret to inform you that your husband Sergeant Warren killed in a flying accident June 17. Aircraft of which he was an observer crashed at Wood- End Farm, Shute Devonshire. Funeral expected to take place June 21. James Warren was born in Carleton Place in 1913, a son of Mrs W.J. Warren and the late Mr Warren. He was educated in public and high schools there and completed his education at the Ottawa Normal School. Leaving Normal he taught school at Little Current, James Section near Almonte, and Middleville and at the time of his enlistment with the air force he was a member of the teaching staff of the public school at Carleton Place. He was one of the district's popular young men and was well known in sports circles throughout the Ottawa Valley. During his high school days "Jimmy" was a strong support to the football and hockey teams and was a noted badminton player. Sergeant Warren joined the R.C.A. F. on July 18, 1940, and received his wings on Feb 15, 1941. He was married on March 18 last, to the former Orrie West, daughter of W. West and the late Mrs West of Almonte and left for overseas in April. In addition to his widow, he is survived by his mother, the former Miss Isobel Snedden of Almonte. two brothers, Jack Warren of the R.C.A.F., Montreal, Bill of Carleton Place, and one sister, Miss Isobel Warren of Carleton Place. Mrs D.W. Snedden of Almonte is his grandmother. A memorial service will be held in Memorial Park Church, Carleton Place, on Sunday, June 29, at 11 a.m.


    James married Ordelia Giles "Orrie" West on 18 Mar 1940. Ordelia (daughter of Wesley West and Sarah "Ethel" Winnifred Teskey) was born on 11 Nov 1916 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 28 Mar 1998 in Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan Municipality, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
