    Thomas Edward James
    The death occurred at the family home, Lanark Township on Friday, March 16th of Thomas Edward James. He was born July 5, 1859 a son of the late Benjamin James and Ellen Bowland. He was married on December 24th, 1895 to Hannah McNeely, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Brice McNeely, Carleton Place, who predeceased him in 1920. He leaves two daughters and two sons, namely, Lillian, Mrs. Herbert Stanley, Pakenham; Ellen, Mrs. W.H. Connell, Toronto; Benjamin E. and Edwin M., of Lanark Township. The funeral was held from the family home on March 19th to St. George's Church, Clayton where service was conducted by the Rev. D. F. Weegar, rector of the parish. Pallbearers were W.L. James, Herbert James, Gordon, Frank and John James and John F. James. The remains were taken to the vault in St. Paul's Cemetery, Almonte, where a Masonic Service was held under the auspices of Mississippi Lodge, A. F. & A. M. He was the last of a family of eight brothers and one sister, William, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Edwin, Herbert J., James M.D. and Mrs. Wm. Robertson, all of Bathgate, N. D.; John R. of Ramsay Township and Alfred of Lanark Township. He was a member of the Township Council for many years and a member of Mississippi Lodge, No. 147, A.F. & A.M., Almonte, and of the Royal Arch Masons. For years he served on the executive of the Lanark County Progressive Conservative Association and was one of the original directors of and a former president of the Lanark and Carleton Counties Telephone Company. Among many floral tributes from the family, relatives and friends was one from Mississippi Lodge A.F. & A.M.

    Mrs Herb. Stanley
    The passing of Mrs. Herbert G. Stanley of Carleton Place occurred suddenly on Christmas Day, December 25. 1967, at the home of her daughter Lillian, Mrs. Wright Mohr in Ottawa. Mrs. Stanley suffered a severe heart attack and her death came without warning. She was in her 71st year. The former Annie Lillian James, she was born in Lanark Township on April 23, 1897, a daughter of the late Thomas Edward James and Hannah McNeely. She received her education at the home school, Carleton Place High School, Trinity College, and was a graduate of Ottawa Teachers' College. She was a member of St, James Anglican Church, Carleton Place, Rocky Ridge Women's Institute , and Group 1 of St. James Guild. Her hobbies were oil painting and the growing of flowers. The late Mrs. Stanley is survived by her husband, two sons, Henry James Stanley of, Milton, Ontario, and Herbert McDowall Stanley of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland: three daughters, Ellen, Mrs. Clare Chesney, Kitchener; Hannah, Mrs. Mel Gilmour, and Lillian, Mrs. Wright Mohr, both of Ottawa, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ben James of Almonte, and Edwin James , Carleton Place, and a sister, Ellen, Mrs. Hal Connell, Toronto. The funeral was held from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. West. Carleton Place, December 27th, to St. James Anglican Church for service at 2 p.m. Burial was made at St. George's Cemetery, Clayton. Services were conducted by the Rev. E.D. Fleming of St. James. Pallbearers were Harold James, Ben James , John Chamney, Ivan Gardiner, Ross Stanley and Donald Lashley.

    Annie married Herbert Giles Stanley in 1932.     Ben James
    Benjamin Edward James passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, February 19, 1973, at the age of 74. Born November 24, 1898, in Lanark Township, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward James and Hannah McNeely. He farmed in the James' settlement in Lanark Township until 1949 and after brief residence, at Appleton and Carleton Place. He lived in Almonte until his death. He was a member of the original Union Hall Tigers baseball team and the Folger Hunt Club. These, along with his association with the Progressive Conservative Party, and, in later years, his hobby of attending auction sales and refinishing furniture were his main interests. He also was a member of Mississippi Lodge No. 147 and Granite Chapter No. 61 Royal Arch Masons. He is survived by his wife, Annie Adella (Rintoul); two sons, Benjamin David of Ottawa and William Haig of R.R. 6, Bowmanville, and one daughter, Jane Ann Elaine (Mrs. John A. Chamney) of Carleton Place, and ten grandchildren; Margaret Ann, Martha Helene, and Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" James of Ottawa, Jennifer Edith Ann, Donald Thomas, Glenn William and Sheila Lynn James of Bowmanville and Lori Ann Lila, Sara Jane and Amy Melissa Chamney. He is also survived by one brother, Edwin M., Carleton Place; one sister, E. Ellen (Mrs. W. H. Connell) of Nassau, Bahamas, and Toronto and was Predeceased by a sister, A. Lillian (Mrs. H. G. Stanley), Carleton Place. A Masonic service was held at the Kerry Funeral Home on Wednesday evening. The funeral service was held in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte, Thursday, February 22, with Archdeacon Salter officiating. Burial was at St. George's Parish cemetery, Clayton, with Pallbearers Alf. James, Mel Gilmour, Wright Mohr, Ivan Gardiner, Henry Stanley and Harold James.

    Benjamin married Annie Adela Rintoul on 16 Jun 1928.     EDWIN McNEELY JAMES
    Edwin McNeely James of Carleton Place died Sunday May 25, 1975 at the Great War Memorial Hospital in Perth. Mr James was born May 23, 1901 at James Settlement in Lanark Township. He was the son of Thomas E. James and Hannah McNeely. He was educated at James School, Carleton Place High School and the Guelph Agricultural School. Mr James worked the family farm in Lanark Township for many years. he was also a former school board member and councillor then Reeve in Lanark Township. His involvement in politics involved government at all three levels. he was returning officer in both federal and provincial elections. Mr James attended St Georges Anglican Church in Clayton and was a member of St James Lodge,Maple Chapter, Remesis Temple and Land of Lakes Shrine Club. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Haley in October, 1954. They were married June 22, 1927, at St Johns Anglican Church in Innisville. He is survived by a son, T Harold of RR 2, Almonte and two daughters, C Helen, (Mrs Ivan Gardiner), Carleton Place and Mary H (Mrs Lloyd Wilson) Kingston. He is also survived by his sister Ellen E Connell of Toronto and numerous grandchildren. Mr James is predeceased by a brother, Ben E. James and a sister, Lillian A Stanley. The funeral service was held May 27 from the Alan Barker Funeral Home to St Georges Anglican Church where Rev Harry Brown officiated. Burial was at the Anglican Cemetery in Clayton. The evening before, Monday, May 26, a Masonic service was held at the funeral home. Pallbearers were: Bennie James, Ronnie James, Alf James, Sid Mohr, Ronald Couch and Bill Halpenny. Shiners formed a guard of honour at the funeral.

    Edwin married Mary Haley in 1927 in Boyd's Settlement, Lanark Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Passed away on Dec. 27, 2020 at Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in his 92nd year.

    He was a fifth-generation Canadian of Irish ancestry, descended from pioneer Canadian settlers who emigrated from County Wicklow, Ireland, to Lanark Township, in Lanark County, Eastern Ontario in 1820. He was born May 29, 1929, and grew up in the "James Settlement", Union Hall, Lanark Township and returned to that area to live in 1991. He was a resident of The Waterside Community Retirement Residence in Carleton Place since 2016.

    He had a career of almost 40 years in the Canadian Telecommunications Industry, retiring from Bell Canada in 1987. He was formerly with the Trans-Canada Telephone System (Telecom Canada/ The Sentor Group of Companies) and Bell Canada International Inc. He was involved in the industry from coast to coast across Canada including Canada's North, Greenland, continental U.S.A. with A.T. & T. Long Lines, Europe and the Middle East with B.C.I. Inc. and the Arabian American Oil Co. (ARAMCO) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, the Hague, Netherlands and Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

    Following retirement he was elected as Councillor for the Township of Ramsay and later served on the Town of Mississippi Mills Police Services Board and the Zone 2 of the Ontario Association of Police Services Board (OAPSB). Throughout his lifetime he was an active member of the Anglican Church of Canada, serving in various capacities at the Parish and Diocesan levels in Montreal, Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley areas. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, Mississippi Lodge #147 Almonte and Maple Granite Chapter #61 Carleton Place, Ontario. He was a strong supporter of the Progressive Conservative Party having served on Riding Association Executives for the Notre Dame de Gras and Westmount Ridings in Montreal and Ottawa Carleton and Lanark Renfrew Associations in Eastern Ontario.

    During his retirement years he received his Canadian Radio Amateurs licence (VA3 BDJ) with the help and patience of associates in the Lanark/North Leeds A.R.E.S. Group with whom he later became associated. He was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a Charter Member of B.P.G. Inc. After his daughter Jennie's death in 2005, Ben was instrumental in the establishment of the Jennie James Depression Research Fund at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. He also was a long-term member and Past President of the Folger Hunt Club, an outdoor enthusiast with active interests in agriculture, forestry, gardening and motorcycling, as well as fast-ball, baseball and curling.

    He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin E. James and Annie A. Rintoul, his estranged wife Sally Helene (Code) and his daughter Elizabeth Jane (Jennie) James and survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann James (Scott McLean) of Ottawa, Martha H?l?ne and Sam Lubbat of Chicago and by four grandchildren, Christopher and Steven James and Vivienne and Kate Lubbat as well as his brother Wm. H. James (June) of Courtice, Ontario and his sister, Jane Ann E. Chamney (John) of Carleton Place, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and their families.
