"?b?William James Brydges?/b? of Puritan, 73 year old pioneer, died at 2 pm yesterday at Grand View hospital. He suffered a stroke earlier in the day.

"The deceased was born in Almonte, Canada, on March 26, 1869. For 35 years he made his home at Puritan and until his retirement in 1935 was surface foreman of the Puritan mine.

"Gardening had always been a hobby of his, and vegetable and fruit products of usual size and variety were a source of great pride to him.

"He leaves two sons, Henry of Anville and Clarence of Puritan; two brothers and a sister in Canada; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mrs.Brydges died in 1931.

"Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood."

The death of Mr James Ernest (Ernie) Symington of Almonte occurred at the Almonte Nursing Home on Saturday evening, December 16, 1978. He was in his 96th year. Mr Symington was a retired farmer on the 12th line of Ramsay. He was a member of Almonte United Church. Born in Ramsay township, on August 31, 1883, he was a son of the late Joseph Henry Symington and his wife, Mary Jane Brydges. He was married at Almonte on March 10, 1909, to Olive Christine Nontell, who predeceased him. Mr Symington is survived by two daughters, Mrs Wilfred Dunfield (Lois) and Mrs James P. McGregor (Vera), both of Almonte, and a brother Austin Symington of Almonte. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph H. Symington. The funeral was held from the Gamble & Comba Funeral home, 12 Church Street, Almonte, at 2 p.m. on December 19, Rev Robert McCrea officiating. Interment was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ross Craig, George Thompson, Roy Thompson, Robert H. Brydges, Charles Symington and Allan Dunfield.

OBITUARY WILBERT HENRY BRYDGES

A resident of Fairview Manor, Mr. Wilbert Henry Brydges, passed away at the Manor on
Saturday, May 26, 1979. He was 84.
Before retirement Mr. Brydges farmed in Ramsay Township. He was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, and was a veteran of the First World War.
Born in Ramsay Township on January 1, 1895, he was a son of the late Samuel Brydges and his wife, Margaret Young. He received his education at S. S. No. 12, Ramsay.
He was married at Almonte on November 12, 1924 to the former Myrtle Thompson, who
predeceased him in 1945.
Mr. Brydges is survived by six sons, Keith, Kenneth, Robert, Cecil, Gordon and Ivan, all of
Almonte, and six daughters, Katherine (Mrs. Francis Gardiner), Galetta; Idabel (Mrs Carman
James), Almonte; Mary (Mrs. Armer Howie), Carp; Marion (Mrs. Graham Armstrong), Carp;
Edith (Mrs. John Campbell), Fitzroy Harbour; and Grace (Mrs. Sterling Howie), Stittsville;
(three sets of twins).
Also surviving are a brother Howard of Almonte, and three sisters, Ruby (Mrs. Gilbert Grainger), Arnprior; Myrtle (Mrs. William Drynan), Clayton, and Roda (Mrs Clifford Dtynan),
Amonte. A brother, John, is predeceased.
The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, to St. Paul's Anglican
Church for service on Monday, May 28, at 2 p.m. Rev. Harry Brown officating. Burial was at
St. Paul's Cemetery.

Obituary for Mr. Earl Cecil Brydges

Brydges, Earl.
Passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 in Barrie, Ontario in his 96th year. Earl was born on the family farm near Almonte in the Ottawa Valley on May 7, 1917, the son of Charles and Annie (Irvine) Brydges. He earned his teaching certificate from Ottawa Normal School and started his teaching career in rural elementary schools in 1935. Interrupted by army service 1942-1945, he then furthered his education graduating from Queen's University, Honours English and History, in 1948. He taught English at Renfrew High School before setting down permanent roots in Barrie in 1952, teaching at Central Collegiate and then teaching at North Collegiate when it opened in 1957. He was principal at North Collegiate from 1962 until his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed semi retirement while continuing to teach English part time at Georgian College. He also tutored English to Hispanic children for 10 years while wintering in Texas in later years. Dad was an avid square dancer well into his 80's. He enjoyed the close friendships he developed through square dancing and education. He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church from 1952. He enjoyed travelling, taking many trips that included Scandinavia, Europe, Russia, the Caribbean and Hawaii, and many parts of the U.S. and Canada. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Joyce (Throop), daughter Helen Andrews (Gregg), son Graham Brydges (Ruth), grandchildren Caitlin and Carolyn Andrews and Sarah and Allison Brydges and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by sisters Margaret Boland, Muriel More, Stella Dowdall and brother Orville Brydges, each of whom he loved deeply. He was proud of his extended families. Dad was a gentle man, always patient, accepting, optimistic and grateful for what life had given him.
Family and friends will be received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Homes, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie on Friday, February 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 12 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home followed by an opportunity to socialize with family and friends over light refreshments. Well-Known fiddler dies at Fairview Manor May 8

Long-time Ottawa Valley entertainer Milton Symington died May 8 at Fairview Manor. He was 92.

After a long career as fiddle player, Mr. Symington moved into Fairview Manor in Almonte last September. He continued to play with the band, Milton Symington and Friends at local venues, including the Manor and Country Haven.

Mr. Symington lived with his wife Annie in Ramsay township until 1953, when they moved to the Arnprior area. They raised six children and Annie , who died in 1887, attended as many of her husband's concerts as she could.

Mr symington headed the Renfrew County fiddler's Association, sang in the Almonte United church choir and volunteered with the Oddfellows and the Masons. He also called square dances.

"I wonder now how I found the time." Mr. Symington said in an interview last September. "Many's a night I didn't have time to sit down to supper."

Mr symington is survived by sisters Mary McIntyre of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Evelyn McIntyre of Almonte, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is the father of Helen (Bill) Dean, Kay (Jim) Kilburn, Doreen (Garnie) Zeibarth, Ron (Denise) and father-in-law of Barbara symington and Merlyn Zeibarth.

He was predeceased by son Allan and daughter Eileen Zeibarth, as well as brothers Alex and Charlie.

After a private family funeral on May 10, interment took place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Glenn, Dale and Barry Dean, Dwayne and Greg Zeibarth, and Jason Symington were pallbearers.

Mary Ann McIntyre (nee Symington) January 10, 1909 June 28, 2011 Mary Ann McIntyre (nee Symington), passed away peacefully Tuesday June 28, 2011 at Saskatoon, Sask. aged 102 years. Survived by daughter Margaret Phillips, four grandchildren (Glenn, Kimberly, Laurie Sutherland; Mark Phillips) and two great-grandchildren (Naim, Hannah Sutherland), four nephews (Allan and Dave Brown; Edward and Charles McIntyre), and three nieces Joyce Bergman, Darlene Peterson, Wilma Chapman and Gail Colbourne and other nieces and nephews much loved in Ontario. Pre-deceased by husband Everton McIntyre, daughter Evelyn (Sutherland), brothers Milton, Charles, Alexander, and sister Evelyn, nephews Jack, Gordon, George Brown and nieces Eileen Fouhse (Brown). Born 1909 on a farm in Almonte, Ontario, Mary was raised with two home boys who went off to fight in WW1, and she also knew as a child a survivor of the Titanic. Although she loved school, especially algebra, Mary only completed Grade 10, at which point she had to stay home to help her mother. She obtained her Licentiate in Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 1928. Before her marriage to Everton in 1930 she played at dances throughout the Ottawa Valley with her brothers as the Symington Orchestra, stalwartly driving all of them home in the wee hours in a model T Ford. Upon moving west in 1930, she and Everton raised their family and farmed near Langham, Sask. until 1974. One of her first tasks upon arrival in Langham was to feed the road crew that was building the Yellowhead Highway and the Borden Bridge. Her legendary cooking from her large kitchen garden and loving manner made her a main stay in the District, where she boarded the teacher (supporting, among others, William Perehudoff to get his education), fed threshing gangs and kept several members of Everton's large family during the Depression. During many years living in Saskatoon, she was an energetic center of social and family events, sports, and an inexhaustible source of garden blossoms, food, and laughter for friends and neighbors. Since 1995 she lived at Prairie Springs Care Home, where the laughter continued to the end. Besides her love of plants and birds, family and friends near and far were the centre of Mary's life, and she remained keenly interested in their wellbeing all of her life. She leaves behind a very large legacy of love, light and grace in those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prairie Springs Care Home, Saskatoon. It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of an incredible wife, mother, sister, Nan and Great-Nan. Beverly Ann Madden (n. Brydges) passed away with dignity and grace at her home on Golden Line Road, Almonte. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years Joseph "Joe" John Madden, and by her son Jeffrey Joseph Madden; survived by her daughter and best friend JoAnn Donaldson (Jack). Cherished Nan to Chris (Jessica) and Jonathan (Anna Laurie), and very special Great Nan to Joseph "Joey" Christopher and Austin Timothy Donaldson, and Breeda Beverly Donaldson.

Born in Almonte to Orville Charles Brydges of Almonte and Gladys May (n. Lancaster) of Carleton Place, Beverly was the eldest of 10 children. She is survived by siblings Clarence (Marian); Blair (Lynda); Harold (Lucille); Bruce (Willie); Joan Scott (Kevin); Roy (Debbie); Stephen (Mary Ann); Heather Denvir (Basil) and Darrell.

She was a medical secretary in Almonte for 52 years: to Dr. Rolf Bach for 35 years, until his retirement, to Dr. Cecil Rytwinski and to Dr. Heather Abramenko for 20 years. Her dedication to her profession was outpaced only by her devotion to her family.

Beverly was proud to be a devoted farmer's wife and worked side by side with Joe to make the Madden homestead "Tara Hill Farm" a successful farm and welcoming place for family and friends alike. First her children and then her grandchildren became part of the many adventures she planned; be it taking the RV on the road, traveling to far off destinations, or enjoying camping just down the highway in the Ottawa Valley. Wherever they went, Bev and Joe could always make fast friends, enjoy good music of all kinds and dance the night away - always sharing the last dance with each other.

Beverly shared her love of downhill skiing, snowmobiling, boating and water skiing with so many friends and family over the years - snowmobiling with her great-grandsons was undoubtedly one of her happiest moments. She planned extended family gatherings for all occasions; birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, showers, and holidays - and they always featured a game, recitation, or skit making memories and keeping us smiling.

With her seemingly unending supply of energy, Beverly found time amidst all of the farm, family and work activities to volunteer with St. Paul's Anglican Church. She remained an active member of the Altar Guild until just a couple of years ago, and always made time to share her excellent cooking and baking skills in support of the Harvest Supper, Tourtiere and Bake Sales.

To know Bev was to know what mattered most in life; family, friends and community. She was so proud of the years spent developing Tara Hill Farm with Joe and creating a home where all were welcomed with open arms and a fantastic meal.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

It is with shattered hearts a great man passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 8th, 2023. Born in Almonte, Ontario arriving as the fifth child of ten. Predeceased by his parents Orville and Gladys Brydges. Proudest and cherished Grandpa of Conner (Aili) and Colton. Beloved Husband of Willie for almost 56 years. Cherished Dad of Janet (Mike O'Rourke) and Rob (Mandy). Step-Grandfather to Cayle, Kathleen (Tom) and Jack (Aneta). Kindest brother to the late Beverly Madden (Joe deceased), Clarence (Marion), Blair (Lynda), Harold (Lucille), Joan Scott (Kevin), Roy (Debbie), Stephen (Mary-Ann), Darrell and Heather Denvir (Basil). He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and deeply missed by so many friends.

His work life was spent shifting gears driving a big rig for 52 years with his proudest years spent at Esso trucking with his trucking family. After hauling fuel, in his words he had 'the perfect hobby' trucking aggregate, heavy equipment and agriculture which allowed him to see the country and talk to every person he met. His dedication did not go unnoticed whether it be to his family, his friend's or his working life to always get the load there on time. Known to work hard, he played just as hard spending his time during the winter months doing his favorite sport - riding his Yamaha sled! His happiest moments will always be the times he spent with his grandsons Conner and Colton, his kids Janet and Rob and travelling the world with his wife Willie. Always genuinely taking the time to chat with those he knew and met ? with a story to tell or a question to ask.

Visitation will be held at the Alan R Barker Funeral Home and Chapel, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place with visitation Thursday, April 13th from 2 - 5 and 6 - 9. Funeral Service will take place in the chapel Friday, April 14th at 12 noon with a reception to follow downstairs. The service will be livestreamed, please search YouTube for "BarkerFh Bruce Brydges" starting at 11:55 a.m.
Cremation to take place after the Funeral with a private family inurnment in Munster at some point in the future.

With great sadness, the family announce that Claire Peter Symington passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Faye (Wagenblass) Symington and his sons:
Rod (Donna) Symington and Paul (Alanna) Symington. Claire will also be lovingly remembered by his 4 precious granddaughters: Leah, Deanna, Madison and Sarah. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Alec and Jean Symington and brother Donald and sister-in-law Doris.
Claire was born and raised on the family farm in Almonte. He moved to Arnprior in 1950 with his parents and was the devoted ESSO Agent for Arnprior and area residents from 1954 to 1993 and then he discovered that selling cars for someone else was a 9-5 job, when he felt like it. Throughout his life Claire enjoyed hunting and time spent with family and friends boating on the Ottawa River, pulling up to shore at Pontiac Beach and cruising the Rideau Canal through the Waterway on to Georgian Bay. He would say "Of course, the best thing to do is to travel the Rideau either way". Claire's retirement was spent enjoying the outdoors and touring in his red pick-up truck with the Dog. He will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious smile, keen interest in the lives of others and his ability to spark a friendly conversation with anyone he met. Claire's arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyce Funeral Home Ltd., 138 Daniel Street North, Arnprior. At Claire's request, a private interment is being planned for immediate family at Arnprior Albert Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
