Elizabeth Duncan Paterson 1870-1953
Elizabeth Duncan was born on April 7, 1870 on the 11th. line of Ramsay Township to James Duncan (12 June 1825 to 5 August 1909) and Elizabeth Lockhart (10 April 1833 to19 Jan 1905) who were married by Rev. J. K. Smith.
In 1903 she and her mother and father moved to Elgin Street, Almonte, to a home built by her father, for his retirement.
Elizabeth Lockhart Duncan died there on 19 January 1905, aged 71 years. James Duncan died there 5 August 1909.
Elizabeth Duncan married Dr. Thomas Robertson Paterson, D.D.S., L.D.S., D.D.C.,. on 23rd. January 1907 and they lived in the Elgin street house until his death on 23rd. June 1946, in his 79th. year and her death on 21st. August 1953, aged 84.
Elizabeth was a pianist and an Honorary Life Member of St. John,s Presbyterian women's Missionary Society and a charter member of the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Alexandra Club. She was also an Honorary member of the North Lanark agricultural Society.
Dr. Paterson was an elder of St. John's Church, a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Sons of Scotland and the Independent Order of Forresters, a bowler and a curler.
He had served on the the Town Council and the Board of Education.
He delivered papers on the care of teeth to Teacher's Associations and conducted the first survey of Lanark county children's teeth to report to the Ontario Government in 1920.
They had two sons; William born 5th. October 1909 and Clarence, born 7th. September 1915. Both were school principals, presidents of their Teachers' Institutes; Past Masters of their respective Masonic Lodges, and Life Members of the Ancient and Accepted Scotish Rite of Freemasonry.

Mrs Elizabeth Paterson, widow of Dr. T.R. Paterson, a resident of the Almonte District all her life, died in Kingston General Hospital on Friday. She was in her 84th year. Daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Duncan, Mrs Paterson was born on the 11th line of Ramsay Township. She moved to Almonte 50 years ago and had resided there the remainder of her life. She was married in Carleton Place to Dr Paterson in 1909. Her husband died in 1946. A member of Almonte Presbyterian Church, she was active in church organizations, Mrs Paterson was an honourary life member of the Women's Missionary Society, a charter member of the Alexandra Club and an honourary director of the North Lanark Agricultural Society. Surviving are two sons, William G.D. Paterson and T.H. Clarence Paterson, both of Kingston; one brother, Albert Duncan of Regina, Sask; a sister, Mrs Ben Holden (Aggie), of Calgary, Alta, and four grandchildren. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from the Comba Funeral Home to the Presbyterian Church where a service was conducted by the pastor, Rev Jas M. Ritchie, Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Kenneth, Robert, Morden, Gordon, Hugh and Albert Duncan.
