Funeral services were held at Vancouver for Dr. George Edward Kidd, 65, orthopedic surgeon in Vancouver since 1922, who died after a six-month illness.

Interested in physical anthropology, Dr. Kidd had done research work on prehistoric, and modern Indians on the Pacific Coast and for work on the Marpole Midden was named Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. He also was a Fellow of the American Geographical Society.

He was past president of the Vancouver Arts and Historical Saciety and was an authority on Egyptology, in which he became interested during the First World War when he served there in the Army Medical Corps. He presented a mummy he discovered to the Vancouver Museum.

He was born in "The Derry" a small community near Carleton Place, the son of the late Joseph Kidd and his wife Mary McDiar-mid.

He attended Carleton Place and Kemptvlle high schools. Graduate of Queen's University in Arts and Medicine, Dr. Kidd was professor there for three years until 1914. Oversea; he won the Military Cross and was mentioned in dispatches. He returned to Canada with a lieutenant colonel's rank.

He resumed his Queen's professorship, but resigned to do post-graduate work in Edinburgh, London and Liverpool. Earlier he had studied in Germany. He came to Vancouver in 1922, after being made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Dr. Kidd compiled a history of the Vancouver Medical Association and was author of the history of the school district of Derry, County Lanark, Ont. He also was past master of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge of Vancouver.

Members of St. John Ambulance Brigade, of which he was a life member, formed an honor guard at the funeral, conducted by Rev. E. D. Braden, D.D., at Nunn and Thompson Chapel. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

He was married in 1913 to Miss Lulu Hastey of Ottawa, who passed away in 1941. Surviving are two brothers. James of Nokomis, Sask., Livingstone, of Carleton Place. Ont., and two sisters. Margaret and Elizabeth of Carleton Place.

William Livingstone Kidd
A lifetime resident of Beckwith Township, William Livingstone Kidd, or R. R. 3 Ashton, (The Derry),
died at his home on April 13, 1984. He was 95 years old. Born in the Derry on Oct 8, 1888, William
was the son of the late Mary McDiarmid and Joseph Kidd. A farmer by occupation, he received his
education at SS No 6 Derry School in Beckwith Township. During World War I, William served
overseas with the 73rd Battalion of the Royal Highlanders of Canada as well as with the 13th Battalion
of the 1st Canadian Division. He was overseas from 1915-1919. Along with his involvement in the
Prospect United Church, which he attended all his life, he also held a life membership in the Canadian
Bible Society. As well, William had a keen interest in history, assisting in the collecting of
information for ?The Story of the Derry ?. On Sept 8, 1927, he was married to Jeanette Leach in
Vancouver. William is survived by one daughter of R. R. 2 Carleton Place and one son, of the Derry.
Also survived by nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Predeceased by sisters, Annie,
Margaret and Elizabeth and brothers John, Angus, Dr. George Edward and James. Funeral service
took place from the Kerry Funeral Home, Carleton Place, on April 15,1984 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Eric
Lynk officiating. Interment was in Franktown Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons.

of Cochrane, AB passed away quietly at the Foothills Hospital, on Monday, February 9, 2004, after a severe stroke at the age of 94 years.

Mary enjoyed the closeness and love of her family and friends and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She was an inspiration to all. She had a zest for life and amazing drive with a warm and gentle kindness. We love you Gramma V. Mary is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lorne and Norma Jean Vidler of Cochrane; four grandchildren, Terry McCracken, Scott (Jackie) Vidler, Jayme (Kirstie) Vidler, and Jodi (Chris) Collins; and four great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Ashley, Cale, and Claudia. She is also survived by a sister Ina Greenfield of Saskatoon, SK and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Vernie Victor in 1985; son Murray Dean in 1967; brothers, Art and Ken Kidd; and sister Beth Eggertson.

A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Cochrane at a later date with the Rev. Don Koots officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. With profound sadness, we announce the passing of John William Kidd, loving husband for 64 years of Leona (Holley) and devoted father to Richard (late Roxanne), Holley (Rodger Gardiner), Beth, and Edward (Hanna). A few weeks shy of his 90th birthday, John died on a sunny autumn day surrounded by his family in the place he was born - on the family farm in The Derry, Beckwith Township. Predeceased by his parents, William Livingstone Kidd and Jeanette (Leach), John is survived by his sister Dorothy Lewis and ten grandchildren: Livingstone, Melissa (Sean), and Grant (Loralie); Casey (Beverley) and Ainsley (Kyle); Katie and Jillian; Jaden, Mia and Ashton. John was also the loving great-grandfather to Duncan, Finley, Keegan, Vivien, Gordon and Angus.

John attended Carleton Place High School where he was a member of the 1948 E.O.S.S.A. championship football team. John took over the family farm continuing in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Married in 1958, John and Leona raised their family on the Kidd farm and continued the generational spirit of community leadership and service. John was elected to Beckwith Township Council in the 1960's serving for 10 years. He was an original member of the Beckwith volunteer fire department starting in 1964. A lifelong historian, his knowledge and historic memory of local lore and lineage were legendary. He regularly hosted genealogists searching for clues to their Lanark County family tree and consulted by historians seeking confirmation of their research.

Friends may visit the family at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, on Friday November 11, 2002 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel Saturday November 12, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Franktown Public Cemetery. Donations may be made in John's name to the Prospect Church Maintenance Fund (cheques made payable to The Township of Beckwith) or the Carleton Place Hospital Foundation (funds directed to "Healthy Futures. (Medical):On December 19, while crossing a rice paddy in the vicinity of Dong Tien in an area of Dien Ban District in Quang Nam Province known as "Dodge City" a patrol of Marines were hit with enemy sniper fire followed by a automatic weapons fire and volleys of grenades. The superior force of Viet Cong overran the Marines killing three of the men, took their weapons, equipment and fled by the time a reaction force of Marines arrived on the scene.

The reaction team recovered three of their dead comrades, one of whom was PFC Vidler who had been killed as a result of hostile gunshot wounds. One severely wounded Marine was found who had survived the attack and was evacuated for medical treatment.

Murray was the son of Vincent Victor Vidler and Gemmell Vidler, the brother of Lorne Vidler all of Regina SK. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on May 1, 1967 in Minneapolis MN with his home of record designated as Fargo ND.

Murray arrived in Vietnam on October 10, and was assigned for duty with Company M, 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

Suddenly at Russell Meadows on Friday May 8, 2015, James Kidd at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Betty (May). Dear father of Andrew (Vanessa Chang) and Sara (Sal Eldin). Loving grandfather of Zayden, Vivian and Lily. Predeceased by parents Arthur and Freda Kidd and his brother Gary. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Daley Family Funeral Home, 6971 Bank St.(between Scrivens Dr. and Metcalfe corner) on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. Funeral to follow in the Chapel for service at 11 a.m. Interment North Russell Cemetery.
