The Late Enoch Giles
Mr Enoch Giles, a well known resident of Ramsay, passed away on Friday morning, aged 72 years. Deceased
was born and lived all his life in the township. He had been in poor health for some time and a week before his
death sustained a stroke from which he never rallied. he is survived by six sons and four daughters, his wife
having predeceased him by five years. The sons are William, Charles, James and Herman, in Ramsay, Elijah in
Lanark and John in Drummond. The daughters are Mrs. John Ramsbottom, Lanark Township; Mrs Geo. McCall
of Ramsay, and Jessie and Ethal at home. Deceased was a member of the Anglian church, a man well known
and much esteemed. The funeral took place Monday to St. George's cemetery at Clayton.

Enoch married Margaret Manson in 1870. W. R. Giles.
A resident who was well known here passed away in Ottawa last Friday Feb. 2nd, at his home at 104 First Ave., in the person of Wm. R. Giles, after an illness of some two months, following an attack of pleurisy. Deceased was born in Ramsay township about fifty-five years ago and there spent the greater part of his life. After his marriage to Miss Angeline Lowe,; youngest daughter of the late Wm. Lowe of Cedar Hill, he settled on a farm near Clayton, where he resided for a number of years after which he moved to Almonte, where he was engaged as agent for the Frost & Wood Co. for a few years. About eight years ago he moved to Ottawa where he took up real estate business. Besides his widow and one son and two daughters at home, he is survived by three brothers, and one sister, Elijah and Enoch of Ramsay, George of Carleton Place, and Mrs. Chapman of Glen Tay, who have the sympathy of many friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral took place on Monday, afternoon to St. Matthew's church, thence to Beechwood cemetery.

Enoch Giles of Ramsay
Enoch Giles, lifelong resident of the Clayton section, passed away on Sunday after a short illness. he was 71 years of age. Mr. Giles was born in Ramsay, son of the late Robert Giles and his wife Amedia Willis, pioneers of the district. Marrying Annie Moulton. Mr. Giles settled on a farm near Clayton. he was a member of the Clayton Orange Lodge. Surviving are his widow, four sons, Lloyd and Milton Giles at home, Orval Giles, of Almonte, and Resford Giles, Ramsay; two daughters, Mrs. William Cole, of McCleary and Mrs. Earl Sweeney of Marble Bluff; one sister, Mrs. Alfred Chaplin, of Glen Tay, and one brother, Elijah Giles of Ramsay. His funeral took place from his late home to St. George's Anglican church.

MRS. WILLIAM LEACH
The death occurred Saturday evening of Mrs. William Leach at the home of her son Daniel Leach, 6th line of Ramsay, in her 73rd year. Deceased was a daughter of the late Daniel Lynch and Jean Giles of Ramsay, and was born on the 4th line of Ramsay. She was married 50 years ago to Mr. Wm Leach, who survives her. Mr. and Mrs. Leach resided on the 5th line of Ramsay for upwards of 50 years. To them there were born four sons and two daughters, namely, William on the homestead; Daniel on the 6th line of Ramsay; Ross, who died in 1924, and Louis who died in infancy. The daughters are Eva May, Mrs James H. Saunders and Lila Maud, who was the late Mrs. F.E. McNeely. She passed away in 1925. Of her own immediate family there are left to mourn her loss, two living sisters, Jeminiah, Mrs. T. Byron of Ottawa and Ethel, Mrs. W. Thompson of Carleton Place, and three sisters deceased, Edith, the late Mrs. Duncan Hamilton of Carleton Place; the late Phoebe Lynch, and Matilda Lynch who died in childhood. There were also three brothers namely, William of Ramsay, Robert of Pembroke and the late Albert Lynch, a well-known resident of Almonte. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the home of her son, Daniel Lynch, 6th line of Ramsay, to St. Paul's Church, Almonte, where service was conducted by the rector, Rev. J.J. Lowe. The remains were placed in the vault of the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Archie Byron, Wm Thompson, Daniel Lynch, W.J. Paul, Robert Hilliard and James H. Saunders. The deceased and her husband have long been known throughout the community for their hospitality and their kindly helpness. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the husband and other members of the family in their great loss.

WILLIAM J. LYNCH OF RAMSAY
One of Ramsay township's most highly esteemed farmers, William J. Lynch, died at his farm on the fourth line, last Friday morning. For the past two years Mr Lynch had not enjoyed the beat of health. The late Mr Lynch was born in the township, seventy-one years ago, a son of Daniel Lynch and Jane Giles. Forty-seven years ago he was married to Caroline Manary of Lanark, who survives with three sons, and three daughters, Daniel Lynch, John Albert Lynch and Wilfred Lynch, all of Ramsay, and Margaret, Mrs James McNeely, of Beckwith; Stella, Mrs Ray Bigham of Picton, and Miss Ellan Lynch of Cornwall. Also surviving are one brother, Robert Lynch of Pembroke, and two sisters, Mrs Thomas Byron, Ottawa, and Mrs William Thompson in Ramsay, and some eighteen grandchildren. The funeral took place to St James Church, Carleton Place, on Monday afternoon, the service being conducted by the Rev Mr. Bruce, and was very largely attended. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Daniel Leach, William Leach, jr., John A McArton, Alex. Munroe, William Thompson of Ramsay, and Welland Byron, Maryland, Que. Many beautiful floral tributes were received.

MR. ELIJAH M. GILES
One of Lanark Township's oldest residents, Mr. Elijah M. Giles,
passed away at the G.W.M. Hospital, Perth, on April 25th, following an illness of nine months. Mr. Giles was born on July 25th. 1872, in Ramsay Township, a son of the late Mr. Enoch Giles and his wife, Margaret Manson. When just a young man, he settled on a farm on the ninth concession of Lanark township where he lived all the rest of his life. On January 19th, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Isabel Warren who survives with two sons, Warren on the homestead and Kenneth of Almonte. Other members of his family are three brothers, Will and Charles of Ramsay and James of Carleton Place; also three sisters, Mrs. Ida McCall, Mrs. Ethel McNeely and Miss Jessie Giles of Carleton Place. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him, John of Drummond Centre and Herman of Ramsay; Ida and Elizabeth (Mrs. John F. Ramsbottom) Lanark. Largely attended, the funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from Alex. Blair & Son's Funeral Home, Perth, to Elmwood cemetery. Rev. S. D, Holmes, Anglican rector, officiated at the services. The pallbearers were five nephews, Harold and Clarence Ramsbottom, Lloyd McCall, Wilbert and Calvin Giles and Harry Warren. Numerous floral tributes were received by the bereaved relatives.

A sad event occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Giles on Friday April 11, when their son, Leslie E., a bright boy of thirteen years passed away after a trying illness of over two months duration, which he bore with wonderful patience for one so young. Rheumatic fever with heart complications was the cause of death and at times he suffered a great deal but through it all was never heard to complain and when death came he looked upon it as a happy release from his suffering. The funeral which was largely attended took place on Monday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Bruce, rector of St George Church, officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Anglican cemetery. His teacher and schoolmates sent a spray of Easter lilies and carnations to show their love and respect. There was also a beautiful wreath from his parents and brothers and sisters and a wreath from his uncle Mr. H. Moulton. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to the bereaved ones in their sorrow.

Tragic Death of Ross Leach Under a Load of Wood
was taking load from bush when it overturned and pinned him below
Young man was found by his father, Body had lain under for probably about an hour
Mr. Ross Leach, who resided on the old Templeton farm of Ramsay met a tragic death on Monday afternoon. His body was found under a load of wood. His father Mr. Wm. Leach, found his son. It appears that Ross Leach after dinner on Monday went to the bush for a load of wood. About four o'clock Mr Wm Leach, who had been also in the bush, came upon the overturned Sleigh. The horses were still standing as evidently they been for about an hour. Removing the sticks. Mr. Leach found his son underneath life was extinct. It was thought that the sleigh became unmanageable going down a hill at the foot of which Ross Leach was found, and that the horses had become entangled in the harness with the result that the load was overturned, and pinned the unfortunate young man underneath. Ross Leach who was only thirty-three years of age, was widely known, and held in high esteem. His wife was Miss Sadie Toop, daughter of Mrs. A.E. Toop. He leaves, besides his widow, two little daughters aged 8 and 2 years. The sad occurrence stirred the sympathy of the community and there was a very large concourse of people at the funeral which took place to the Anglican Church and Cemetery on Wednesday, The service was conducted by Rev. J.J. Lowe. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Wilfred Toop, John Toop, William Leach, Daniel Leach, Frank McNeely, and Daniel Lynch. Dr. A.A. Metcalfe, the corner was notified of the fatality but decided that an inquest was unnecessary.

Mr William Leach Dies - 75 Years
At the Almonte General Hospital on Saturday, December 11, 1971, the death of Mr William James Leach came very suddenly after a lengthy illness. Suffering from Polio in 1953 he had been crippled ever since. In 1965 and 1966 the amputation of both legs, caused by the hardening of the arteries confined him to the wheelchair. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jean Robertson of R.R. 2 Almonte, and daughters Lila and Stella. Also surviving are Mrs William Neil (Evelyn), Carleton Place, and a sister, Mrs James H. Saunders, (Eva) of Ottawa and a brother Daniel of Nairn Centre. Predeceased are brothers William Louis, and Ross, also a sister Lila Maude (Mrs Frank McNeely). He was born at R.R. 2 Almonte where he resided his entire lifetime. Mr Leach was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 240, Almonte, and served overseas in World War I. A service by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 240, was conducted December 13 at 8 p.m. The funeral was held on Tuesday, Dec. 14th, from the Comba Funeral Home, Almonte, thence to St Paul's Cemetery, Almonte. Arch-deacon J.A. Salter officiated at the service. The many flowers and memoriams showed the esteem in which he was held and his cheerful voice will never be forgotten. The pallbearers were James Paul, Alex Hazelwood, Gordon Thom, Fred Toop, Wilfred Lynch, and George Hilliard.

JOHN LYNCH
The death occurred in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte on March 17th of John Lynch in his 58th year. He was the son of the late William Lynch and his wife the former Carrie Manary and was born in Ramsay Township in 1896 where he spent all his life. Left to survive besides his wife the former Mildred McNeely of Carleton Place, is one brother, Wilfred Lynch of Ramsay and two sisters, Maggie, Mrs. Jim McNeely of Carleton Place and Ellen, Mrs. Melvin Hollister of Cornwall. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the Fleming Funeral Home to St. James Anglican Church where Rev. Mr. Weegar conducted the service. Pallbearers were T. A. Daniel Lynch Buried Tuesday
Last respects were paid Tuesday to the memory of Daniel Lynch, Santiago St., who died suddenly on Sunday at his home. The service was held at 2 o'clock from Fleming Bros Funeral Home to the Anglican Church and conducted by the Rev D.F. Weeger. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were: J. Howard P. Giles
A life-long area resident, Howard Giles, passed away peacefully in the Rosamond wing of the Almonte General Hospital April 5, 1997. He was in his 90th year. Born on Sept. 24, 1907, Mr Giles was raised on a farm on the Clayton Road by his parents, the late William Giles and his wife Margaret Pritchard. he received his education at Ramsay S.S. 6 and 7, Almonte High School and Guelph Agricultural College. During his life time, Mr Giles was a beekeeper and operated a honey-making business, was a linesman and installer for Bell Telephone and later, operated a business, Giles Auto Parts, on Mill Street in Almonte. He also served terms as property assessor for Almonte and building inspector for Ramsay Township. Always and active in the community, Mr Giles had particular involvement in the North Lanark Agricultural Society, the Ottawa Winter Fair, Almonte United Church, the Auld Kirk Cemetery Board, Almonte Lions Club, Almonte Business Association, Almonte Credit Union, Almonte Fish And Game Association, Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, and the Department of Lands and Forests. In later years he particularly enjoyed his involvement with the Renfrew County Old-Time Fiddlers' Association and various senior citizens' groups. Mr Giles married the former Olive H. McKay in Arnprior Sept 4, 1935. They resided in homes on Martin Street in Almonte until 30 years ago, when they moved to their home that Mr Giles had built on the Clayton Road. Mr Giles will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by Olive, his wife of 61 years, his children, Beverly (Steve) Summers of Etobicoke, Harold (Rosalyn) Giles of William's Lake, B.C., David (Diane) Giles of Dorchester, Ont., and Donald (Roxie) Giles of Vancouver, B.C. Also sharing in his loss are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A private family funeral service was conducted by Rev Ted Colwell at the Kerry Funeral Home in Almonte April 8, followed by cremation. Interment will take place late in the spring at the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth May. Survived by his daughters Penny (Ronald), and Paisley (Ron). Proud "Grandpa" of Trevor, Trisha, Kyle, Kayla and Koby, and "Poppa" to his great-grandchildren Jake, MacKenzie, Emily, Kane, Kole, Evey, Karson, and Kassidy May. Missed by his special friend Bram.

Grandfather of Sarah (Brad MacFadden), Crystal (Jamie Quinlan), Connor and Brody. Step-grandfather of Amber (Tyler Senack). Step-great-grandfather Skye, Autumn, Gage and Knox. Brother of Eileen Healey, Helen Watt and Barbara Briand. Predeceased by his daughter Heather, parents Ressford and Margaret (Easton) Giles, sisters Norma Young, Evelyn Devlin, Dorothy Gale, and brothers-in-law Thornloe Young, Mervin Devlin, Gerald Healey, Don Irwin, Archie Campbell, Jim Gale, Jim Watt and Herve Briand. At Raymond's request, cremation has taken place. A graveside inurnment service will take place in the spring at United Cemeteries. W.B. McNEELY DIES - 52nd YEAR
Final tribute was paid to the memory of Willard Bryce McNeely at his funeral which took place on Wednesday, April 17, 1968, from the Fleming Bros. Funeral Home, Lake Ave. west. to St James Anglican Church where the service was conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev E. Daniel Fleming assisted by Rev R Crawford of Ottawa officiating. Interment was in St James Cemetery. Mr McNeely, who had residing on the Arklan Farm, Beckwith Township, passed away on Sunday, April 14, in Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was in his 52nd year. Born in Carleton Place on August 28, 1916, he was the son of James McNeely, who survives and his wife the late Margaret Lynch. He was educated in Beckwith Township and had farmed all his life on the Arklan Farm. he was a member of St James Church. -594- Besides his father, he is survived by two brother, John of Ashton and Arnold of Carleton Place; five sisters, Edith (Mrs William Simpson), Dorothy (Mrs Ray Kennedy), Jean (Mrs H.K. Coleman), Fay (Mrs Robert Service) all of Carleton Place and Mrs Pat Yeamen of Montreal. The pallbearers were Keith and Kenneth McNeely, Dale Tysick, Percy Hay, Norman Clark and James Kennedy.

COLEMAN, Jean Ellen
Suddenly, but with great peace, JEAN ELLEN COLEMAN in her 71st year, joined her Saviour August 23rd, 1999. Mom will be deeply missed by her children to whom she devoted her life; Reverend Margaret Coleman, Liana Gallant (Deacon Bing), and Ron Coleman (Kathy). Nana will be forever cherished in the hearts of her grandchildren Genevieve, Jamie, Joshua, Justin and Emily Gallant and Travis and Peter Coleman. A lifetime of memories are held by her sister Faye Service (Bob) of Smiths Falls, Ontario. Part of a large family (McNeely), Jean was predeceased by her parents and siblings Willard, John, Arnold, Edith and Patricia. A member of Community Pentecostal Church in Orleans, Jean will be remembered by many friends for her beautiful smile and generous ways. Deep and heartfelt gratitude is expressed to the devoted staf of the Glebe Centre/Bronson Place, who loved and cared for Jean through her final days. According to Mom's longheld wish, her body has been donated to medical research so that the lives of others may be improved upon by her lengthy struggle with heart disease. The illness brought much suffering to Mom's life but she lived and died with great dignity as was her way in all things. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 28th, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the Garden Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Bells Corners (Nepean), with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Glebe Centre/Bronson Place would be much appreciated.

Faye was the cherished wife of Robert for 59 years, deeply loved and respected mother to Cindy (Myles McLennan) and Janice (Jeffrey Follett), and adoring Nana to Courtney Follett, Stephanie Follett and Thomas McLennan. Predeceased by brothers Willard, John (Edna) and Arnold (Wanda); sisters Edith (Bill Simpson), Jean (Hod Coleman), Dorothy (Ray Kennedy), and Patricia (Jack Yeaman).
