SUDDEN DEATH ? An old and well known resident, Mr Graham Forgie, of Ramsay, and father of Messrs, Forgie bros, of Almonte and Ramsay, died at his son's residence on Wednesday morning last. The old gentleman ate his breakfast as usual and was left in the house all right by his son, who was only out of the house for a few moments and on returning found the father dead. This was the third paralytic stroke from which he had suffered.

The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, to the Arnprior cemetery. Rev. Mr. Holbein conducted the service.

A resident of Winnipeg - since 1910. Mrs. Eliza Van Courtland Workman, widow of Prof. W. G. Workman, who died Monday, aged 88 years, at the residence ol ner daughter. Mrs. W. T. Craig, 899 Jessie ave., was burled today. The funeral took place at 2 p.m. from the Clark Leatherdalo funeral chapel to Elmwood cemetery. Mrs. Workman was born In 1848 In Ottawa, Ont. when that city was still known as "tfyetown. - She wss the daughter of John Forgie, a pioneer wholesale mer chant of the town. In 1872 she married the late Professor Workman, a musical Instructor In the Ottawa Normal school. Some 24 years ago, she came to Winnipeg to make her home with Mrs. Craig, and since then had been a faithful attendant at Augustine church. Mrs. Work - mans faculties remained - unimpaired until the end, and she often spoke of the, to her, familiar per sons and events of pre - Con federation days In eastern Canada. She la survived by three sons: H. C. Workman, of Ottawa; W. E. C. Workman, of London, Ont, and H. A. Workman, of Chesney, Ont.; and by one daughter, Mrs. Craig. There are 13 grandchildren and two great - grandchildren living.

Mr Gilbert Forgie had been suffering for some time from cancer of the stomach, and had been gradually growing weaker, until the end came on Friday, a welcome release to him from the suffering he endured with fortitude and patience, tenderly cared for by his daughter, Miss A.J. Forgie, and his granddaughter, Miss M. Cavers. The late Mr Forgie, who was in his 85th year, was born in Lanark township, a son of the late Gilbert Forgie, and one of a family of twelve children of whom five are still living. These are Mrs John Simpson of Winnipeg; David Forgie, of Cleveland, Ohio; Henry of Toronto; Robert in the west, and James in Almonte. A good many years ago he was married to Agnes Baird, and to them were born four children. Of these Mrs Thos Cavers is dead, and Robert of Ottawa, Graham on the homestead in Ramsay and Mrs P.E. Young of Sault Ste Marie, are still living. His first wife died quite a number of years ago, and he was married again, to Jane Dunfield, who died about sixteen years ago. To them were born three children, Jas G., at Renfrew, and Miss A.J. and David at the home in Almonte, to which Mr Forgie came about twenty-five years ago. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the eighth line cemetery, and was largely attended, quite a number of relatives and friends coming from a distance to be present. The services were condcuted by Rev Mr Rattee. The pallbearers were sons of Mr Forgie's old neighbours when he was in Ramsay ? John Stewart, Donald Stewart, John Neilson, John W. Neilson, M. Aikenhead and J. McFarlane. The late Mr Forgie was a man of public spirit, and he took a deep interest in matters that were for the general good. he was an ardent Liberal in politics, and was one of the oldest officials of the North Lanark Agricultural Society, of which he had been an honourary director since advancing years compelled his retirement from the active list. But of all the interests that engaged his attention none were so dear to his heart as his church. he was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was one of the most active and generous in building of St John's and was always a liberal contributor to its support. he was always an active and energetic man, and it is only a few weeks since his familiar figure had been missed from the Express wagon as his son went his daily rounds

The deceased was in the full enjoyment of health less than two weeks ago, but was suddenly seized with congestion of the lungs which rapidly developed into a complication of diseases from which recovery was impossible, and on tuesday last he was called to join the ranks of those who have gone before. DEATH'S HARVEST
Mr Jas Forgie
Another of Almonte's very oldest residents has responded to the inevitable call that comes sooner or later to every one, and Mr James Forgie passed beyond this world's recall. On Saturday he had been about as usual but on Sunday he was taken very ill, and on Wednesday morning he quietly slept away. The late Mr Forgie was born in Ramsay township on April 1st, 1833, a son of the late Graham Forgie and Ann Gemmill. He came to Almonte when he was a young man, and here he engaged in occupation of one kind or another. He was a wagon-maker by trade, but even in those early days real estate divisions were attractive and he purchased the land on the northern end of the town through which Ottawa street is today the main thoroughfare. From the proceeds of this transaction he was enabled to embark in other enterprises in which his efforts also proved successful, and aided him in making ample provision for his declining years. In 1870 he erected the brick store and dwelling, in which he carried on business for a number of years. On May 5th, 1855, Mr Forgie was married to Miss Isabella Thomlinson, and to them twelve children were born, on two of whom are now living. These are Mr J.G. Forgie, barrister, of Pembroke, and Mrs A.E. Teskey of Winnipeg. On May 5, 1905, Mr and Mrs Forgie celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Two years later Mrs Forgie was called away, and on August 29, 1911, Mr Forgie was again married to Georgina G. Smith, who survives him. Two brothers of Mr Forgie's are still living, Henry at Toronto and Robert at Portage la Prairie. The funeral took place this Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock to the Presbyterian cemetery and was attended by a large number, both of townspeople and others, whose respect and esteem Mr Forgie had won. The late Mr Forgie was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, and was one of the staunch supporters of and liberal contributors to St. John's church, when it did not enjoy prosperity that marked its later years. No appeal for truly religious or charitable purposes was ever made in vain to him, and very few knew the amount of the benefactions dispensed by him, as he put into actual practice the scriptural injuction, "Let not thy right hand know what thy left hand doeth." He was possessed of very quiet and retiring disposition, and it was only as one was taken into his confidence that the true strength of his character became known. He was upright and straightforward in his dealings, in which his word was his bond. His passing away was the closing of a life that any person might well covet possession of.

Mrs Wm Simpson
Death claimed another old resident of Ramsay on Monday last in the person of Mrs Wm Simpson, whose home for quite a few years has been on the ninth line, near Almonte. Deceased had not enjoyed robust health for some time, and when she was seized with pneumonia just a week before her death she lacked the necessary vitality to combat the disease. Deceased was a daughter of the late Graham Forgie, and was born in Lanark township a few miles from Lanark village, one of a family of twelve, six of whom are still living. These are Messrs Gilbert and James of Almonte, Mrs John Simpson in Winnipeg, David in Cleveland, Robert in Ottawa and Henry in Toronto. Those who are dead are John, William, Mrs Campbell, Thomas and Andrew, and now the subject of this notice. Deceased was married to Mr Wm Simpson over fifty-five years, and to them twelve children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Those living are Chas, at White Lake; Mrs Alex Scott and Mrs W.J. Scott, at Sault Ste Marie; Mrs Dodds in the west; Mrs John Metcalf, William and John in Ramsay; and Misses Martha, Belle and Herb at home. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the eighth line cemetery and was attended by a large number of friends and neighbours. The deceased was a woman of a quiet disposition, but possessed of kindly heart which made her a welcome sympathetic visitor where trouble was until failing health prevented such ministrations. She was a member of St John's church, but has been unable to attend the services for some time, but enjoyed such ministrations as her pastor could impart. Her life was one of simplicity, and was lived in a clear hope of the home beyond.

?/b?Robert Forgie, resident of the Capital for the past 35 years and former empioye of the Dominion Experimental Farm, died yesterday at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Mr. Forgie, who was in his 80th year, had been In ill health for some time.
Mr. Forgie was born In Ramsay township and faamed in that district for many years before coming to Ottawa. He worshipped at Parkdale United church and prior to his Illness, took a keen and active interest In congregational affairs.
He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Campbell; two sons, G. B. Forgie and J. C. Forgie, both of Ottawa; two daughters, Mrs. A. B Basset and Mrs. Fred Griffith, both of Ottawa; two sisters, Miss Agnes Forgie of Almonte and Mrs. P. J. Young of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; and two brothers, James of Renfrew and David of Almonte. There are also 15 grandchildren. The funeral will be held privately from his late residence, 181 Armstrong street, on Friday at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be in Pincrest cemetery. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

Mrs James Forgie
Last Saturday Mrs James Forgie was around as usual, bright, cheerful and happy, going about her household duties in her customary manner, and this (Thursday) afternoon she passed on to test the realities of the great beyond. On Sunday morning she was taken suddenly ill and all through Sunday and Monday her condition occasioned grave apprehension. On Wednesday, however she apparently was slightly better and brighter, but the improvement proved to be only temporary, and this morning it was seen she was rapidly nearing the end. Mr and Mrs John G. Forgie came down from Pembroke on Tuesday, and word was sent to Mrs Teskey at Winnipeg, who is coming by today's Winnipeg train, but too late to see her mother alive. Mrs Forgie whose maiden name was Isabella Thomlinson, was born near Innisville, a daughter of the late John and Jessie Thomlinson, and on the 7th of May, 1855, was married to Mr James Forgie, Rev J.K. Smith, then Presbyterian minister at the eighth line, Ramsay, performing the ceremony. Of a number of children only two are now living, Mr John G. Forgie of Pembroke, and Mrs A.E. Teskey (Miss Leila) of Winnipeg, the others having died in infancy. Mr and Mrs Forgie came to Almonte immediately after their marriage and have been residents here ever since, and during these fifty-two years have made many friends by their uniformly constant lives. Mrs Forgie was always of a bright and buoyant disposition and many of the trials of life were lightened by her cheerful spirit. Just two years ago this week (May 12th) Mr and Mrs Forgie celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage and in all the company there was not a cheerier voice than hers. Since coming to Almonte Mr and Mrs Forgie were both workers in many a good cause, and in the Presbyterian church of which both were a members their activities found scope, Mrs Forgie being an encouragement and inspiration to all with whom she came into contact in the departments of work which she was most interested. She has for years been a life member of the W.F.M.S. of which organization she was for a number of years treasurer, and was one of its most liberal supporters. Mr Forgie and the son and daughter have the sincere sympathy of many warm friends. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 2.30 p.m., to the eighth line cemetery. Service will be held at the home at 2 o'clock

The death took place at Govern, Sask, on Tuesday April 17 of Mary Jane Kemp, wife of Mr. Sherman Baldwin. The remains were brought East for interment at Almonte and were accompanied by her daughter Mrs. W.S. Baldwin, arriving on Saturday April 21. The funeral took place on Sunday from the residence of her son Mr. W.E. Scott, Elgin St., to the Presbyterian Cemetery of Ramsay.

the late Mrs. Baldwin, who was the relict of William Scott of the Union Hall Section, was born on June 4, 1840, and spent sixty-eight years on the farm on which she was born, removing west to Govan, Saskatchewan, in March 1909.

It was always the wish of Mrs. Baldwin that her remains would be laid in the Old Kirk Cemetery, 8th. line Ramsay, having attended the church there when a girl, as far back as the year 1850.

She leaves beside her husband to mourn her loss three daughters and two sons; Lucinda, Mrs R.W Young, Ramsay; Jean, Mrs John Robertson, Alberta; Addie, Mrs W.S Baldwin, Saskatchewan; John A. Scott, Toronto and W.E Scott, Almonte. The youngest daughter, Minnie, Mrs. F.N Alexander, predeceased her seven years ago. All the members of the family were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Robertson.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jas. D. McCrae. The pallbearers were Messrs M.R. MacFarlane , W.C Pollock, George A. Robertson, W.A. Nichols, Lawrence Naismith, Jos. Paul and John Lindsay.

Graham Forgie Drops Dead
Mr Graham Forgie dropped dead in the barnyard near his house on Monday evening. He had a sale during the day, and after the crowd had gone away he went out to do the necessary chores. As he did not return as soon as he was expected to Mrs Forgie went out to see what had caused the delay and was shocked to find her husband lying prostrate just outside the barn door. Neighbours were summoned by telephone and the family doctor called, but life had departed and nothing could be done. The cause of death was thought to be heart failure, caused by exhaustion following a busy and exciting day. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, and the many who attended showed to what extent the sympathy of the community went out to the bereaved family. The services were conducted at home and the grave by Rev Mr Brown. The pallbearers were Messrs E. Duncan, John Neilson, Jos Symington, John Stewart, J.W. Neilson and W.J. Duncan. Interment made in the Almonte Presbyterian cemetery. Among those from a distance who were present at the funeral were Mr and Mrs R.T. Richardson of Woodroffe, Mrs Geo McCreary, Mrs R.L. Black of Montreal, Mr and Mrs J. Ridgway of Ottawa, Robt J. Forgie and his son Gilbert Forgie of Ottawa, Mr and Mrs Jas Forgie of Renfrew, Arch F. Campbell of Arnprior, and Mr R.N. McCreary of Pakenham. The late Mr Forgie was the second son of the late Gilbert Forgie and his first wife Agnes Baird, and was born on Jan 27, 1857, and was a couple of months over 58 years of age. He was married on December 29th, 1886, to Mary Amelia, daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex Snedden of the 7th line of Ramsay, and to them one daughter, Edna A., was born, and is now Mrs Jas Ridgway of Ottawa. Mr Forgie spent three years in the west before his marriage and the balance was spent on the farm which had become to him from his father. One full brother of the deceased, Mr Robt J., lives in Ottawa, and a full sister, Mrs P. Young, at the Soo. One sister, Mrs Thos Cavers, is dead. Mr James Forgie of Renfrew, and D.W. of Almonte are half brothers, and Miss A.J. of Almonte is a half sister.

Following an illness of six months Miss Agnes Jane Forgie, esteemed resident of Almonte for 50 years, passed away at her home on Church Street, on Tuesday afternoon, March 19. Miss Forgie was born in 1868 on the 11th line of Ramsay, a daughter of the late Gilbert Forgie and his wife Jane Dunfield. She enjoyed a particularly wide acquaintance in the town having served as librarian of the Public Library for the past 15 years up to the time when she relinquished the post on account of ill health. She was a devoted member of The Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one brother Mr James Gilbert Forgie of Renfrew; one sister, Mrs Peter E. Young, Sault Ste Marie and her niece, Miss Margaret Cavers at home. The funeral was held this afternoon (Thursday) at 1 p.m. Rev A.J. Fowlie of the Presbyterian Church, officiated. The body was placed in the Auld Kirk Vault to await interment in the Auld Kirk Cemetery in the spring. A profusion of beautiful flowers bore testimony to the esteem in which Miss Forgie was held. Among them were pieces from the Almonte Library Board. The Alexandra Club. The Lawn Bowling club and the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church. The pallbearers were R.A. Jamieson, J.D. McCallum, Harry Houston, Duncan Forgie, Ross Barr, and Robert Templeman.

TORONTO. Dec. 30. Founder and owner of one of the oldest typewriter repair firms in Toronto, William H. Forgie, 80, died suddenly yesterday at his home.
Mr. Forgie came to Toronto from Almonte. Ont. in 1897. After a short period as manager of the Dominion Typewriter Company, he started the W. H. Forgie Typewriter Co. in 1915. He managed the firm up to the time of his death. Surviving are his widow. Annie E. Royce Forgie; a daughter. Lota H. Forgie. and two grandchildren. Mrs. Nancy Moore. Saint John. N. B., and J. Cairns. Word was received here of the death at Maynard, Mass., of Graham Forgie, a former wtll known Almonter. Mr. Forgie died Wednesday following an extended illness. He was born in Almonte, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Forgie.
In the earlier days when lacrosse was booming, Mr. Forgie played on several championship Almonte teams. He. left Almonte many years ago and following some time at Sherbrooke. Que., moved to Maynard, Mass., where he had made his home.
Surviving in addition to his widow, the former Mary Robertson, is one son. Fraser Forgie of Maynard. There are also two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Alex McLean of Moose Jaw, Sask.; Mrs. R. J. Cowie of Winnipeg; Duncan Forgie of Almonte; John and Robert Forgie, both of Winnipeg, and William Forgie of Toronto.
Interment was at Maynard, Mass.

The death occurred in Carleton Place on Sunday March 22nd, of Duncan James Forgie, in his 81st year. Born in Ramsay Township, he was a son of he late John Forgie and his wife Jessie Hamilton. All His life was spent in Ramsay and Almonte where he was a textile operator for a time. For 40 years he was an employee of The Almonte Public Utilities Commission and retired a few years ago on account of failing health. In 1891, he married Miss Margaret Switzer who predeceased him by several years. He leaves one sister, Mrs Margaret McLean of Vancouver; one daughter, Miss Hattie Forgie of Paris; one sone, Mr Mason Forgie of Toronto; Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Scott Funeral Home, Almonte, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev Llewellyn Graham, rector of St. Paul's Church officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs. J.B. Illingworth, E.P. Clement, W.A. James, Jas Moreau, Frank Honeyborne and D.M. Campbell.

Mrs J.W. Neilson
In spite of the conditions of the roads on Saturday practically every family in this district was represented at the funeral of the late Mr John W. Neilson. We extend deepest sympathy to Mrs Alec Turner and to the Neilson family in the passing of Mrs Neilson, who was laid to rest in the Auld Kirk Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, after many years of suffering. Mrs Neilson was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wm Simpson and had spent most of her married life on the 12th and 11th lines of Ramsay, till she and Mr Neilson moved to Almonte 10 years ago. All her family were born in the home on the 12th line and two daughters died there, Elsie in infancy and Laura, a beautiful girl of 19 years. Mr Neilson died about five years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss five sons, four of whom were with her at her death. Gordon of Winnipeg, was home recently but was unable to be present at the funeral. George had been helping to care for her since early fall, William H. and John B. of Ramsay and McFarlane of Toronto. There are also six sisters and three brothers bereaved. The sisters, Annie, Mrs Alec Scott, Margaret, Mrs Wm Scott, both of the Soo; Elizabeth, Mrs John Metcalfe of Ramsay; Mrs Marion Dodds of the West, and Misses Belle and Martha of Almonte. Three brothers, William, John and Herbert are also in Ramsay. One brother Charles Simpson died in Arnprior last year. Mrs Neilson was very highly esteemed by her neighbours and friends, and had a wonderful devotion for her home and family. She was Presbyterian in religion. Her minister Rev Fowlie had charge of the funeral, assisted by Rev Aird of the Baptist Church. The floral offerings were beautiful. A pillow from the family; Broken Circle from the sisters, Misses Belle and Martha and Mr Herbert Simpson; a spray from the grandchildren; spray from Mr and Mrs Alec Scott, Soo; and a spray from Mr and Mrs Wm Scott, Soo; a beautiful floral basket from Mr and Mrs Geo Comba; a wreath from Miss Annie Neilson, Appleton; a spray from Mrs Alec Turner, and a spray from Miss Ida A. Paul, Appleton. The pall-bearers were Messrs William, John and Hugh Metcalfe. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs William Scott and Miss Florence Scott from the Soo, Mr McFarlane Neilson, Toronto, Mrs Chas Simpson, Mrs R. Robertson and Mrs McNab, Arnprior.

Miss Martha Simpson
The death occurred a Sault Ste Marie on Saturday, August 6th, of Miss Martha Simpson, at the age of 94 years. Born on the 11th line of Ramsay Township, a daughter of the late William Simpson and his wife, Ann Forgie, she attended the local schools and later moved with her family to a farm on the 9th line of Ramsay ? the farm now owned by Mr Jos Hickey. About 35 years ago, she moved to Almonte where the family resided on Union Street. Of a family of 13 brothers and sisters, she is survived by one sister, Mrs Marion Dodds of Tisdale, Sask., and a number of nephews and nieces. A brother Herbert Simpson of Almonte, predeceased her in November, 1953, and since that time she made her home at Sault Ste Marie with her niece, Miss Jennie Scott. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug 10th, at 2.30 p.m. The service was conducted by Rev V.L.A. Hirtle, minister of Almonte Baptist Church, of which deceased was a member. The pallbearers were five nephews, Graham Simpson, William and John Neilson, Hugh Metcalfe, Harold McIntyre ad a cousin, John Keller. Interment was in the family plot in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

Mrs John Metcalfe
Word was received here of the death in Toronto on Thursday, March 11th, of Mrs John Metcalfe, in her 80th year. Mrs Metcalfe, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Simpson was born in Ramsay Township, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wm Simpson. Following her marriage to Mr John Metcalfe they resided on the Metcalfe homestead on the Clayton road until his death seven years ago when she went to Toronto to live with her daughter Mrs J.F. Keller. The remains will arrive in Almonte on Saturday morning. The funeral will be held from the Comba's Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, March 14, at 2.30 p.m., to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev Wm Aird at 2 p.m. Mr Metcalfe is survived by one son Hugh of Arnprior and one daughter Mrs J.F. Keller of Toronto. Of her immediate family, one brother and three sisters survive, namely Herbert Simpson and the Misses Bella and Martha Simpson, all of Almonte, and Marion, Mrs J. Dodds of Tisdale. Sask.

Miss Isabella Simpson
On Thursday, Sept 10, death claimed one of the oldest residents of Almonte. Deceased was in her 88th year. She was a daughter of the late William Simpson and Ann Forgie and one of a family of thirteen of whom three survive, Martha and Herbert of Almonte and Marion, Mrs Dodds, of Tisdale, Sask. The late Miss Simpson, in her earlier days, followed the nursing profession. Her funeral was held from her late residence on Union Street on Saturday afternoon to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr William McKenzie Simpson
Largely attended by friends and relatives, the funeral of William McKenzie Simpson, well known Ramsay township farmer, was held Saturday afternoon from his residence, 9th line of Ramsay, at two o'clock with interment being made in the Auld Kirk cemetery. Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist church, conducted impressive funeral services. The pallbearers were Messrs Lloyd Watson, John Simpson, Alton Matthews, Wilfred Metcalfe, Wesley Rae, and Herbert Simpson. Numerous floral tributes were in evidence. The late Mr Simpson had been in poor health for some years and passed away Thursday evening. Born 70 years ago on the 11th line of Ramsay, the son of William Simpson and his wife, Mary Forgie, deceased had lived all his life in Ramsay township. Some 38 years ago he was married to Emma Blythe Munro, who predeceased him seven years ago. Another well-known and highly regarded resident of this community passed away at his home on the 9th line of Ramsay, in his 70th year, in the person of John H. Simpson. Mr Simpson had not enjoyed good health for the past year but was only seriously ill for two weeks. He was a son of the late William Simpson and his wife Ann Forgie and was born on the 11th line of Ramsay. Forty years ago he was married to Miss Margaret Anne Lowe of Galetta, who survives. Also left to mourn are two sons, Bert Simpson of Carleton Place, and Graham at home, and one daughter Myrtle, Mrs A.J. Milligan of Goderich. Five sisters and one brother also survive, Misses Martha and Bell and Mr Herbert Simpson of Almonte, Mrs Lizzie Metcalfe, Toronto; Mrs Annie Scott, Sault Ste. Marie, and Mrs Marion Dodds, Tisdale, Sask. Mr Simpson was a valued member of Almonte Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, choir leader and as a member of the Trustees Board. The funeral which was largely attended, was held at 2 p.m. from his late residence. Rev Wm Aird presided, assisted by Rev A.C. Dixon of Toronto and Rev A.J. Milligan of Goderich. The pallbearers were two sons, Bert and Graham, two nephews Earl Simpson and Hugh Metcalfe and Mr John Ryan and Mr Herbert Simpson. Interment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Among those who attended from a distance were two nieces, Misses Florence and Jean Scott of Sault Ste Marie and other relatives from Ottawa.

There passed away suddenly at the R.M. Hospital on Monday, Nov 9th, one of Almonte's esteemed residents in the person of Herbert Oswald Simpson. He was in his 77th year, the younger son of the late William Simpson and Ann Forgie. He was one of a family of thirteen children of whom only two survive, Martha, at home and Marion (Mrs Dodds) of Tisdale, Sask. Funeral service was conducted at his late residence on Union Street on Wednesday Nov 11th, by Rev A. Hirtle of the Almonte Baptist Church, assisted by Rev Alfred Milligan of Perth who lead in prayer. The funeral service was attended by many friends from the surrounding district and some from a distance including Messrs John and William Ryder of Toronto and Mr and Mrs Graydon Willoughby and daughter of Ottawa. Interment was made in the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews.

The death of John Simpson of Winninpeg, formerly of Almonte, occurred in St. Francis General hospital, Smiths Falls, on Nov. 18. For several months Mr. Simpson had been visiting his family and friends in eastern Ontario and the Ottawa district. Mr. Simpson, who was born 85 years ago on the 11th Con. of Ramsay on the farm now occupied by Chas. Brydges and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Simpson. He married Catherine McLean of Perth, who predeceased him in 1935.
Mr. Simpson was formerly a prominent member of North Star I.O.O.F. lodge, No. 2, Winnipeg. He was a member of the United Church of Canada. The funeral was held from the J. J. Marsh and Sons Funeral Home, Smiths Falls and burial was in Almonte, Monday. The service was conducted by Rev. R. W. Armstrong of Merrickville, Ont. The funeral arrangements were held under auspices of Rideau lodge No. 241, I.O.O.F., Smiths Falls, members of the order acting as pall bearers and attending the burial service at Almonte.
Mr. Simpson is survived by five sons and one daughter, J. F. Simpson of Los Angeles, Calif., H. E. Simpson of Detroit, P. N. Simpson of Outlook, Sask., L. H. Simpson of Ottawa, A. E. Simpson of Montreal and Mrs. J. R. Guthridge of Belleville.
Two brothers and one sister also survive, namely, Graham Simpson of Victoria, B.C., William Simpson of Crystal City, Man., and Mrs. Alex Mutch, MP of Winnipeg South, is a nephew. There are four grandchildren.
Herb Simpson and Duncan Forgie of Almonte are cousins of the late Mr. Simpson.

The death occurred in the G. W. M. Hospital, Perth, on Tuesday, May 3, of Mr. James Cowie, of Balderson, aged 70 years. A patient sufferer, the late Mr. Cowie had been in failing health for about three years, but was only confined to hospital for the past three weeks. Born in Bathurst Township, he was the son of the late William Cowie and his wife, Margaret Kemp. Having spent 26 years as cheesemaker, Mr. Cowie was widely and favorably known throughout the community. The esteem in which he was held was evidenced by the large number of friends who gathered for the service on Thursday, May 5, in the Balderson United Church, which deceased regularly attended. He was a valued member of the church choir from his boyhood days, until health failed. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. G. A. Beatty of Balderson, burial taking place in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth. A favorite hymn, :Christ Is All in All" was rendered by Mr. Robert A. D. McTavish. Many beautiful floral offerings were received. The pallbearers were Messers. John Rintoul, Wilbert Cowie, Chas. Rintoul, nephews, and Gordon Spring, Walter McIntyre and R. S. McTavish. The late Mr. Cowie was married 27 years ago to Miss Elizabeth Rintoul who survives. Left to mourn his loss, besides his widow are four brothers, Isaac, of Ottawa, Robert, of Winnipeg, Frank, of Morden, Man., Nelson of Three Hills, Alta., one sister, Mrs. Gordon Spring of Perth and a cousin, Miss L. F. Cowie of Balderson. Those attending the funeral included friends from Ottawa, Chatsworth, Brockville, Almonte, Westport and the surrounding country."

A highly esteemed member of the community in the person of Mrs Robert W. Young, passed away at her home on the 10th line of Ramsay Township on Tuesday August 28 in her 87th year. Mrs Young has been in declining health since March and was confined to bed for the past three months.

Born at Union Hall on March 9, 1870, she was the eldest daughter of William Scott and his wife Mary Jane Kemp.

On July 10, 1901 she was married to Robert W. Young who predeceased her.

She leaves three sons and two daughters, Dr. W.S. Young of Geneva, N.Y.; John E., of Toronto; Robert A., 10th line of Ramsay Township; Jeanne O. of Toronto and Marion, Mrs M.F. Teskey of Calgary, Alta; five grandchildren, Peter, Jim and Jane Young of San Francisco, Mrs Jack Laycock (Joan Young), Summerside P.E.I.; Robert W. Young of Geneva, N.Y.; and one great grandchild, John Stephen Laycock.

One sister, Jean, Mrs John Robertson, of Edmonton also survives.

The funeral service was held in Almonte United Church on Thursday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m. the minister Rev J. Ray Anderson officiated and internment was in the Auld Kirk Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Messrs Kenneth Scott, Morley Alexander, Ernest Robertson, Roy Robertson, Bob McKay and George Robertson.

The floral tributes were nimerous, among them were baskets from the Session of Almonte United Church; Circle No 3, Almonte United Church; Mississippi Lodge No 147; Almonte Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No 254; the staff of Young's Drug Store, Toronto and the Tops Restaurant.

A. Jean Robertson passed' away in Edmonton on March 13, 1968. Born Agnes Jean Scott at Clayton, Ontario, May 3, 1871 she married John Robertson in August 1909 and came to homestead in the district northeast of what later became the town of Castor, residing in the Knob Hill district until 1935.
Since 1937 she has resided with her daughter in Edmonton, her husband having predeceased her on January 12, 1930.

Final tribute was paid Mrs. William Banning who died in Rosamond Memorial Hospital. She was 81. Services were held from the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home, Elgin Street. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. J. R. Anderson minister of the Almonte United Church officiated. Mrs. Banning was a daughter of the late William Scott and his wife the former Mary Jane Kemp of Ramsay Township. She received her early education in Ramsay and in 1892 she married William Baldwin of Almonte who predeceased her in 1935. In 1938 she married the late ' William Banning who died in April 1947. During her first marriage she lived in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Left are two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Young (Lucinda of Almonte and Mrs. John Robertson (Jennie) of Edmonton. Two brothers, John A. of Toronto, and W. E. of Almonte predeceased her along with a sister, Mrs. Frank Alexander (Minnie).

The funeral of the late John Alexander Scott was held on Thursday afternoon, Dec 3rd, from the home of his brother W.E. Scott, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service were conducted at the residence and grave by Rev J. Ray Anderson, pastor of Almonte United Church. Mr Scott died in Toronto on Monday, Nov 30th, in his 78th year. The body was brought here Wednesday afternoon and rested at the home of his brother until Thursday afternoon. Born at the Scott homestead on the first line of Ramsay near Union Hall, the late Mr Scott was a son of the late Wm Henry Scott and his wife, Mary Jane Kemp. He is survived by his wife, the former Fanny Johnstone; by a son, Kenneth Edward, on the mechanical staff of the Toronto Star, and two grandchildren; one brother, W.E. of Almonte and three sisters, namely, Mrs R.W. Young (Lucinda) 10th line of Ramsay; Mrs Wm Banning (Adeline) of Almonte and Mrs Robertson (Jean) of Edmonton. Deceased was educated at the rural school near his Ramsay home and in Almonte. While a young man, he learned the printing trade under the late Wm Pittard in the office of the old Almonte Times. From there he went to the Kingston Whigg, to Hamilton and Toronto. After a time he gave up his trade and for some seven years conducted a furniture and undertaking business in Smiths Falls. While in Toronto, Mr Scott had worked for the Catholic Register, where he learned the typesetting machine. Deceased was a life member of the Masonic Order, belonging to one of the Toronto Lodges. He was also a member of Withrow Park Bowling Club. He often visited his brother in Almonte during his long residence in Toronto and even after he retired and was in indifferent health he enjoyed coming here and having a holiday during which he went aback to the homestead to renew scenes of his youth.

Former Mayor and Warden of County Dies at Home Here

Almonte lost one of its most prominent citizens on Wednesday morning in the death of William Edward Scott which occured at his home on Elgin Street following an illness of several months. He had enjoyed phenomenally good health up tothe latter part of 1953, and it was often remarked of him that he was one of the best preserved men in town for his age.

Born on a farm on the second line of Ramsay near Union Hall, a son of William Scott and Mary Jane Kemp, Mr Scott was educated in the country school near his home and at Almonte High School. While a young man he went to Toronto where he worked with an undertaking firm until 1904 when he purchased the business from the late L. W. Shipman, which he carried 0n ever since.

50th. Business Aniversary
Having taken stock, Mr. Scott reopened the store to the public on May 4th. 1904, and it was from that day that he really dated his connection with the business life of Almonte, celebrating anniversaries from time to time as the long period of years unfolded until he came to his 50th in May of this year. By that time he was in indifferent health and was confined to his home with Mr. R. A. Goodison, an experienced furniture dealer and enbalmer, in charge at the store.

In the long period that has elapsed Mr Scott was singularly successful in his own business and in municipal affairs. His first venture in public life was when he was elected as a trustee to the public school board, soon after coming here. He then migrated to the Electric Light Commission, as it was known at the time, and in 1911 became reeve. His career in the County Council brilliant. He was an able representative of the town and when his colleages raised him to the Wardenship in 1916 he filled that high office with ability and destiction.

Elected to Mayor
Having fulfilled his ambition on the County Council, Mr Scott sought and was elected to the mayoralty of Almonte in 1918 and again in 1921 and 1924. It was during his last term that the present renerating plant was constructed.
After that Mr Scott retired to private life for a considerable time. As he often said to his friends, he did not expect to come back. But in 1943 he was prevailed upon to seek the mayoralty once again, together with a slate of colleagues of whom he approved. He continued to hold office until 1946 when he retired again. this time in spite of pressure brought to bear on him from time to time he adhered to his decission not to re-enter public life.

He Wrought Well
during his time in the Council as Mayor, many progressive steps were taken that will live long in the memory of those fellow citizens who were old enough to appreciate them and who appreciate him. The late Mr. Scott had great administrative ability, was a good speaker and was blessed with a fine appearance. He had an alert manner, a spingy step and gave the impression of being capable and able to grasp a subject without much exertion. He always felt it was a rather unique distiction to have been mayor of the town when World War One ended and again when World War Two was concluded.

Had Many Interests
He was a member of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and a past master; also a member of Granite Chapter. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church up to the time of Union and later to the United Church. He was interested in many forms of sport. Thes included hockey, which he always supported, golf which he played in late years, curling and fishing. He was one of the charter members of the Pickeral Piont Fishing club and up to a few years ago enjoyed going to White Lake for a Holiday.
taken all around Ed, as he was known to many, was an oustanding citizen of the town who will be sadly missed in many ways.

In 1906, Mr Scott married the late Effie James who predeceased him in December, 1931. A daughter and son survive in this first family, namely, Marjorie (Mrs. C.R. McDowall), Carleton Place, and Allan Ottawa South Druggist. In 1938 he married Loretta Foy of Almonte who survives him along with three children: Judith, Robert and Kevin.

Mr Scott was one of a family of six - two brothers and four sisters. Of these only three sisters survive, namely Mrs John Robertson (Jean) of Edmonton; Mrs Robert Young, (Lucinda) of Almonte and Mrs William Banning (Addie) of Carleton Place. He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Frank Alexander and by on brother, J.A Scott of Toronto.

Final Tribute Paid Former Mayor Of Almonte at Funeral on July 23

The funeral of the late W.E. Scott, held from the family residence, Elgin Street, Friday afternoon, July 23rd. was largely attended not only by people from the immidiate district but from many neighbouring towns in the Ottawa Valley.

Mr Scott, a former councillor, reeve and mayor of Almonte and ex-warden of the County, was widely known. He died on Wednesday, July 21st, following an illness of several months duration.

Following his death, the flag on the town hall was hauled to half mast as a tribute to one who served to town well in several important capacities.

Services at the home and at the grave in the Auld Kirk Cemetery were conducted by Rev J. Ray Anderson, pastor of Bethany United Church.

The following acted as honourary pallbearers: Edward James, W.A James, John Lindsay, R. A. France, George Hourigan, D.W. Snedden, E.P. Coady, James Abram, William Anderson, James Connery, D.K. Fraser, Lorne James, Louis Peterson, Wm. Shaver.

Active pallbearers were: Roy Robertson, Ernest Robertson, R.A. Young, Kenneth Scott, and M.K. Alexander.

Among a profussion of floral offerings were the following from organizations and firms with which the deceased had been connected in his lifetime: Town of Almonte, Peter's Point Fishing Club, the Board of Park Management, Almonte Girl Guides, Public Utilities Employees, Elliot Brthers, Lanark County Council and Officials, Ottawa and District Funeral Directors Association, Officers and Members of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. & A.M., 147 Dominion Manufacturers Ltd.

The remains of the late Mrs. Frank Alexander, who died at Govan, Sask. last week reached Almonte on Sunday morning, accompanied by her husband. the funerl took place on Monday afternoon from the residence of her brother, Mr. W. Word of the sudden death of Mrs Frank N. Alexander (nee Minnie Scott), was received on Tuesday, February 1st, by her brother, Mr W.E. Scott, of town. A letter received the day before contained no hint, even of illness, which added to the sudden shock. The late Mrs Alexander was the youngest daughter of Mrs S. Baldwin, by her former husband, the late Wm Scott, was born in Ramsay, and was 34 years of age. She taught school in Almonte for several years, and in 1907 she went west to take a position as teacher at Govan, Sask. About five years ago she was married to Mr Frank N. Alexander, who, with two children, a boy of four years and a little girl of two years, are left to mourn, besides her mother, three sisters and two brothers. These are Mrs R.W. Young, of Ramsay; Mrs John Robertson, of Castor, Alta; Mrs W.S. Baldwin, of Govan, Sask; Mr W.E. Scott, town. Mrs Alexander's death is the first break in the family circle since her father's. The remains are being brought to Almonte for burial, and are expected to reach her on Sunday morning's Imperial Limited. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of her brother, Mr W.E. Scott.

Margaret Cavers
Miss Margaret Cavers, a retired registered nurse, passed away at the Almonte Nursing Home, on Monday, May 20th, 1974, following a lengthy illness. She was in her 99th year. Born in Almonte, on September 22, 1875, the late Miss Cavers was a daughter of Thomas Cavers and his wife, Ann Forgie. She received her education in Almonte schools, and took her nurse's training at a Cleveland, Ohio, hospital. She was employed as a special nurse in Cleveland hospitals. In Almonte she was a member of Almonte Presbyterian Church. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, 127 Church street, on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, with Rev Douglas McQuaig officiating. Burial was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were elders of the church, Ernie Giles, George Lowry, Roy Van der Meer and Harry Fuller.

Death from Diphtheria
Keen sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs James G. Forgie, of Petrolea, in the loss of their little boy under rather distressing circumstances, Early last week they left Petrolea for a visit to Mr Forgie's parents, Mr and Mrs Gilbert Forgie, of this town. When they left home both their children were apparently quite well. They remained one night in Toronto, and then came on to Smith's Falls, where they remained one night. While there their eldest child, a little boy two years old, was taken ill. A Smith's Falls doctor, who was consulted would not, at that stage of the trouble, pronounce it diphtheria, and Mr Forgie come on to Almonte. An Almonte physician was promptly summoned, and he pronounced it a case of diphtheria, and despite everything that good nursing and constant medical attendance could do, the little one passed away on Wednesday night. Owing to the mature of the trouble, the body was quietly buried on Thursday morning. We regret to learn that Mr Forgie's younger child also has the disease, but we understand it is not a severe attack, and hope it will be entirely recovered in a few days. TESKEY - Maurice Forgie, PhD, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2000. Predeceased by his dearly beloved wife, Marion Adeline (nee Young); brother, Arthur; sister-in-law, Frances; and brothers-in-law, Robert, John and William, he leaves his sister-in-law, Grace, nieces, nephews and many good friends. At the age of 25, Maurice received his PhD in Economic Geology from the University of Toronto. After a career as a geologist in Alberta, Northern Ontario, and finally in Ottawa as the Chief of the Gas and Oil Reserves Division National Energy Board, he retired to Victoria in 1972, where he pursued his hobbies of photography, painting and golfing. Cremation. Interment will take place in the Auld Kirk Cemetery in Almonte, Ontario.

We deeply regret to chronicle the death of a young lady in our midst, in the person of Miss Laura May Neilson, whose spirit took its flight on Friday night of last week at the early age of 18 years and 6 months. The deceased young lady contacted a cold last winter, which settled on her lungs, and notwithstanding all that medical aid could do she kept gradually going down, till finally the end came. Laura was of a bright disposition and the only daughter of Mr and Mrs John W. Neilson, another little girl having died about nine years ago. Deceased was confined to bed for a short time only during her sickness, as at times she was able to be up, and last Friday morning was able to sit up for a short time. All the family approached the bedside as the end drew near, and she said goodbye to each one of them, her last words being "Asleep in Jesus." The father, mother and five brothers remain to mourn the loss of a loving daughter and sister. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from her father's residence to the eighth line cemetery and was largely attended. The pallbearers were Messrs J.A. McGreagor, John Woods, John Struthers. Robert Aitken, Edger Cavers and E.H. Turner, Mr and Mrs Neilson and family have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement.

Tragic Death Of Ramsay Farmer
Young Man Falls Under Tractor While Operating It Near Home
Friends of Almonte and district were shocked, Thursday evening, Oct 17th, to learn of the tragic death by accident of Mr William Earle Simpson, wellknown young farmer who resided on the Ninth Line of Ramsay. Mr Simpson had been plowing in a field not far from his house and when time came for the evening meal, about five o'clock, Mrs Simpson thought it strange he did not shut off the tractor and come home. She went to investigate and was horrified to find her husband's body under one wheel of the machine. She closed off the engine and sent for neighbours who came to her assistance. No Inquest Necessary The coroner, Dr A.A. Metcalfe, was summoned and he found the victim of the accident had sustained a broken neck. No inquest was considered necessary. It is thought Mr Simpson must have slipped off the platform of the tractor while standing up or leaning forward. In this way he would fall in front of one of the drive wheels. It was a new machine having been purchased about a month ago. A son of the late William McKenzie Simpson and his wife, the late Emma Munro, the young man was born on Feb 6th, 1908 on the homestead where he met his death. He attended Greig's School and the Almonte High School. His mother died in April and his father in July, 1938. He continued to operate the farm very successfully being a good worker and having a thorough understanding of the business. On Oct 18th, 1938, he married the former Jean Aird, a daughter of Rev Wm and Mrs Aird of Almonte. She survives him with one daughter, fourteen months old. There is also a sister, Mrs J. Dequettville of Almonte. Funeral Saturday
The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the family residence ninth line of Ramsay, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev Wm Aird of Almonte Baptist Church; Rev J.F. Dingman of Carleton Place Baptist Church and Rev A.J. Fowlie of Almonte Presbyterian Church, took part in the service at the house, while Rev G.C.R. McQuade of Trinity United Church, Almonte; Rev W.J. Scott of Bethany United Church and Rev Wm Aird officiated at the graveside. The pallbearers were Messrs A.W. Matthews, Wilfred Metcalfe, Roy Rodgers and Melvin Rae. Included in the floral tributes were offerings from the Baptist Church Board of Almonte and from the neighbours. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were the Misses Florence and Jennie Scott of Sault Ste Marie; Mr and Mrs Duncan McIntyre of White Lake; Mr and Mrs Robertson of Waba; Mrs and Mrs A. Scott and Wm Scott of Peterborough and Miss Helen Aird, Reg N. of Boston. The late Mr Simpson was the treasurer, a trustee and deacon of the Almonte Baptist Church. The sympathy of a shocked community goes out to the widow in her hour of great sorrow.

Charles Herbert Simpson
The death occurred suddenly on Wednesday, Jan 18, 1967, at his home 76 Union Street, Almonte, of Charles Herbert (Bert) Simpson, son of the late John Henry Simpson and his wife, Margaret Ann Lowe. The sudden passing was a great shock to his family and friends. Mr Simpson was born on the 9th Line of Ramsay Township and spent most of his life in Almonte. He was employed in Findlay's Foundry in Carleton Place. In December he was awarded the "Gold Watch" in recognition of his 35 years as an employee. He is survived by his sister, Myrtle (Mrs A.J. Milligan) of Bracebridge, and one brother, Graham, of Almonte. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan 21st, 2 p.m. The service was conducted by the Rev John MacPhail of the Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev G. Beaton of the Presbyterian Church. The pallbearers were, Messrs Kenneth Simpson, Carns Lever, of Carleton Place, Alex Spinks, Merville McGrath, John Miller and Arthur Scott. Interment in Auld Kirk Cemetery.
