Mrs John Arthur, sr., answered the call to the great beyond on Thursday morning at the home in Ramsay, after 82 years of the joys and sorrows of this world. The deceased, whose maiden name was Martha Crow, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1824, and in 1844 was married to Mr Arthur, who died two years ago last March. In 1851 they came to the United States, and ten years later to Almonte, where they lived for seven years and then moved to the farm in Ramsay now occupied by their son. Mr James Arthur. About eighteen years ago they moved to the Smith Farm on the tenth line, and here they spent their declining years. Six children, Maggie (Mrs Allan Slater, Waskada, Man), Misses Annie and Letitia, at home, and Messrs John and James in Ramsay, and Samuel at Wapella Assa. ? survive. The funeral take place on Saturday at 1.30 o'clock to eighth line cemetery.

? Death cast gloom over another home here last week when Miss Letitia Arthur passed peacefully to rest at the age of 62 years. Deceased had suffered for a number of years from rheumatism and heart trouble, but of late other troubles developed, which proved too much for the already weakened constitution and death released her from all sufferings on Friday, Throughout her long illness she bore her affliction with Christian patience, looking forward to a brighter life, Two brothers and two sisters survive, Samuel and Mrs Allan Slater of Manitoba, and James and Annie of Blakeney. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock to the eighth line cemetery. Rev D.M. Macleod conducted the funeral services. A large circle of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their sorrow.

Lanark County has lost one of its oldest residents in the death of Miss Annie Arthur, who passed away at 12.45 Tuesday, March 15th, at her home on the 10th line of Ramsay, after a short illness, in her 87th year. She was a daughter of the late John Arthur and his wife, Martha Crow, two of the early pioneers of Ramsay. The late Miss Arthur was born in Maryland, U.S.A., one of the family of nine, three daughter and six sons, who have all predeceased her except one brother, Sam, of Rocanville, Saskatchewan. Let to mourn Miss Arthur are a nephew, Geo Arthur and niece, Miss Agnes Ballantyne, with whom she resided. The late Miss Arthur was a member of the Blakeney United Church in the welfare of which she took an active interest. She was a kindly lady and much beloved by a wide circle of relatives and friends, and especially to the younger generation to whom she was known by the affectionate term "Auntie Annie." Her passing will be widely mourned. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, March 17th, from the home of her nephew, Mr George Arthur. Service was conducted by Mr Fred Rice, pastor of Blakeney Church. The pallbearers were Robert McPhail, Robert Stewart, John McGill, Jas Bingham and Gordon Hanna. The body was placed in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault.

The funeral of James Arthur of Blakeney, who died on Tuesday, December 22nd, took place from the family residence on Thursday to the Auld Kirk cemetery, Almonte. The service was conducted by Rev Mr Warren of Blakeney United Church of which the deceased was an elder; assisted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon, of Almonte, and Rev Mr Merillees of Iroquois, former pastor of Blakeney Presbyterian church. There was a large attendance at the funeral and numerous floral tributes were received by the bereaved family. Included in them was a spray from the session and a wreath from the Ladies' Aid of Blakeney United Church; Wreath from the Overbrook Public School Board, and a spray from Mr and Mrs George Armstrong and family. The pallbearers were: Alex Barker, George Pool, Robert Young, James McGill, George Robertson and James MacIntosh. Mr Arthur, who was in his 79th year, was born in Maryland and came to Canada in 1860. He was the son of the late John Arthur and Martha Crowe, who were pioneers of Ramsay township. He was married in 1888 to Ellen Paterson. For upwards of 65 years Mr Arthur conducted a farm at Blakeney, and was widely known in the district. The chief mourners were: one son, Howard Arthur of Blakeney; seven daughters, Mrs Russell Ellerbeck of Glenvale; Mrs William Sutherland of Ottawa; Mrs Melville Royce of White Lake; Miss Isabella at home; Miss Mary Arthur of Ottawa; Miss Margaret Arthur of Toronto; Miss Gladys Arthur of New York City, and an adopted daughter, Miss Jessie Ballantyne of Toronto. Another daughter Mabel Arthur died in infancy. Miss Annie Arthur of Blakeney, a sister and Samuel Arthur of Rocanville, Sask., a brother, also survive in addition to nine grandchildren.

James married Ellen Paterson in 1887. Ellen (daughter of Buchanan Paterson and Isabella Stewart) was born on 31 Aug 1863 in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 18 Sep 1941 in Blakeney, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Margaret M. McGill
Mrs Margaret Morrison McGill (nee Arthur), widow of the late John McGill Sr., of R.R. 1, Pakenham, passed away at the Lake Avenue Nursing Home, Carleton Place, at 11.15 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 1975. She was 86. Born in Pakenham Township on March 12, 1889, she was a daughter of the late John and Jessie Arthur. She received her education at Blakeney Public School and at Willis Business College in Ottawa. On October 31, 1919, she was married at Blakeney to the late John McGill. Mrs McGill was a member of the United Church, the Women's Institute, Ladies' Aid and the Horticultural Society. With a special interest in handicrafts, she was a lady director of the North Lanark Agricultural Society. She is survived by two daughters, Jean S. McGill, Toronto and Marion K. (Mrs Murray Cavanagah) of Pakenham, and three grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs Jean McPhail of Almonte and Mrs Kathleen Rose of Perth. She was predeceased by one brother, Oral. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, Almonte, on Wednesday afternoon, April 30th with Rev C. Dodds of Pakenham United Church officiating. Burial was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. The pallbearers were Keith Armstrong, Art McPhail, Ted Woods, Ken Campbell, Jack Arthur and Alex Bowes.

The death of Mr Oral Arthur occurred at Almonte in the General Hospital, Saturday, April 10, 1971. He was 77. Born on February 9, 1894, he was a son of the late John Arthur and his wife, the late Jessie Stewart. He was married to Kathleen Anderson on September 29, 1921, who predeceased him February 7, 1966. Surviving are two sons, Jack of Almonte and Donald of Pakenham and five grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs Jack McGill (Margaret), Pakenham; Mrs Frank Rose (Kathleen), Perth, and Mrs Robert McPhail (Jean), Almonte. He received his education at Blakeney school. He was a member of the Masonic Order, receiving his 50 year membership pin in February. The funeral was held at the Kerry Funeral Home on Sunday, April 11, 1971, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev Robert McCrea officiating, Entombment at Auld Kirk Cemetery Vault, with interment in the spring. The pallbearers were John Currie, Weldon Timmons, Melville Royce, John Gorman, Sam Arthur and Jack McPhail.

Kathleen Almeda Rose
Kathleen Almeda (Arthur) Rose, died August 19, 1981, at the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, in her 82nd year. Born Dec 25, 1899 in Ramsay township, she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Stewart) Arthur. As a young woman she was employed in Almonte at the Telephone Co and later at Taber's Dry Goods Store, until her marriage in 1926 to Frank Rose of Ramsay township. After residing for a short time in Hamilton, Ohio, USA, they settled in Smiths Falls in 1928, where her husband began a 20-year career in the OPP. Predeceased by Frank in 1948 she began practical nursing, which lasted until she was 70, but her lifelong service to others continued. Mrs Rose leaves two daughters Barbara (and her husband Keith Armstrong, Kingston, Ont) and Margaret (and her husband Ken Campbell, RR 6 Perth, Ont) and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her older sister Margaret, Mrs Jack McGill and her only brother, Oral Arthur. Surviving is her younger sister, Jean, Mrs Bob McPhail, RR 3 Almonte. Since 1940 Mrs Rose upon moving to Perth, attended St Paul's UC. The funeral August 21 was conducted in the chapel by the staff of Blair & Son Funeral Home with the Rev Mr Andrew McKenzie officiating. The pallbearers were: Frank Campbell, Robert Campbell, Jack Arthur, Jack McPhail, Raymond Arthur, Murray Cavanagh. Honourary pallbearers were Arthur McPhail and Ronald Arthur. Interment was in Auld Kirk Cemetery 8th Line Ramsay, near Almonte. Floral tributes were beautiful and other donations were many.

The death occurred in London , Ont on Sunday last of a former wellknown resident of this district in the person of Mrs William M. Sutherland. She had been in ill-health for two years. Twenty-one years ago she was married to William M Sutherland in Ottawa and resided there until two years ago. Her husband died in 1934. The funeral was held Tuesday morning, April 11, of Mrs Wm. M. Sutherland who died the preceding Sunday in the hospital at London, Ont. She had been in ill health for nine years. The former Millicent Arthur she was born near Blakeney, the daughter of the late James Arthur and Ellen Paterson. Twenty-one years ago she was married to William M. Sutherland in Ottawa and resided there for several years. He died in 1934. After a lengthy illness, Agnes Winnifred (Arthur) Royce, of Almonte, died in St Vincent's Hospital, Ottawa on Dec 12, 1982. She was in her 80th year. Born in Blakeney, on Nov 6, 1903, the daughter of late James Arthur and his wife the late Ellen Buchan Paterson, she was educated in Blakeney, Almonte schools and Ottawa Teachers' College. She was married to the late Melville Wilfred Royce at Blakeney, Ont on Feb 8, 1928. She was long time resident of Almonte. Mrs Royce was a very dedicated mother and grandmother. In her early years she was also a dedicated school teacher. She is survived by Marjorie (Mrs Henry Stavenow), Arnprior; Muriel (Mrs George Trick), Toronto; Kathleen (Mrs James Eccleshall), Ottawa; Robert, Trenton; Elizabeth (Mrs Walter Buffam), Carleton Place; Delmer, Killaloe, Eldon, Almonte and Lynn of Buffalo, USA. She is also survived by sisters, Margaret Arthur, Almonte; Gladys Burke, Baltimore, USA and Jessie Brown of Toronto. Predeceased by one brother Howard and sisters, Isabel, Martha, Mary, Millicent and Mabel. Jean Stewart

Jean passed away at Stoneridge Manor in Carleton Place, on Thursday, March 7th, 2019 at the age of 98.

She is survived by her sister Marion Cavanagh, nephew Stewart Cavanagh, nieces Barbara Cavanagh and Norah Yuill (Brian) and grand nephew Michael Yuill and will be sadly missed by all. Jean is predeceased by her parents John and Margaret McGill (nee Arthur) and by her brother-in-law Murray Cavanagh.

After finishing Almonte High School, Jean worked for the Federal Government in Ottawa before moving to Toronto in the 1950's where she held jobs as an editorial assistant, copywriter and researcher. The last 12 years of her working life were spent doing research for the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Jean enjoyed writing and researching and authored a number of books including one on the early history of Lanark County and one on the life and work of sculptor Robert Tait McKenzie. Jean also wrote and published two children's books. During her spare time Jean enjoyed sketching and painting watercolour landscapes.

The family would like to thank Dr. Drake and the staff at Stoneridge Manor for their care of Jean over the past 10 years.

In memory of Marilyn Whittle who passed away at the Temiskaming Hospital on Friday March 7, 2008 at the age 60.

Beloved wife of Tom,

Loving mother of Mark and his wife Nicole of Whitby and Lisa and her husband Shane Taylor of Haileybury. Dear grandmother of Samantha, Katie, Bradley and Nathan.

Friends will be received at the Perrin Funeral Chapel 128 Whitewood Ave. New Lisekard on Wednesday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m.
