A Memorial to be Registered pursuant to the Statute of the Province of Upper Canada in that case made and provided of an Indenture Bearing date ?b?the eighth Day of May in the year of Our Lord One Thousand eight Hundred and Thirty Two?/b? made between James Simpson of Goulbourn in the County of Carleton in the province of Upper Canda yeoman of the one part and Elinor Lancaster of the same place Widow of the other part Whereby the said James Simpson for and in consideration of a Marriage intended to be shortly had and solemized between the said James Simpson and Elinor Lancaster he the said James Simpson covenants and agrees and hereby binds himself his heirs, executors, administrators and asigns to the full and entire fulfilment of the grants and conditions therein after written, (that is to say) the said intended marriage having been duly held and solemized and thereafter should the said James Simpson depart this life before the said Elinor then and in that case the said Elinor is to have, hold occupy and enjoy during her life (having a reference to the conditions therin after stated) The one fourth part or Twenty Fve Acres of Lot no. four in the ninth concesion of the Township of Goulbourn of which he the said James Simpson was then possesed in fee simple subject neverless to the following conditions
"that is to say" should the said Elinor (after the death of the said James Simpson) again marry or without other marriage of the said Elinor at her death the said land to revert as follows. That is to say & in the event of issue from the said marriage of James Simpson and Elinor then and in the cases before mentioned the said lands are to revert and become the property of such issue in portion or portions as may be further decided upon by the two nearest relatives (then over age) but in the event of no issue from the said marriage then and in the cases afore mentioned the said lands are to revert to and become the property of the children of the said James Simpson by a former marriage in the proportions and positions as the said James Simpson may will and direct.

Simpson, who was well known in the Ottawa district, passed away recently at his home in Smiths Falls, at the age of 89 years, following a short illness which was attributed to a fall. Deceased was born at Ashton, where he resided till 15 years aso, when he retired from farming and took up his residence in Smiths Falls. He was the last of a family of seven sons and five daughters. Surviving are three sons: Willoughby, of Edmonton: Robert of Chilliwark, B.C.; and Joshua of Smiths Falls; and four daughters: Mrs. Robert Shilllngton, Moose Jaw; Mrs. W. J, Bleeks, Winnipeg; and Misses Maude and Pearl Simpson, Smiths Falls. The funeral took place to Munster Union cemetery, the services being conducted by Revs. Ellis and Bradfoid. The pall bearers were Messrs Kidd, Clayton, Ormond and James Simpson, and Milton and Willard Graham. Many floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community.Funeral service conducted by the Revs. Ellis and Bradford.

Death came to Mrs. Mary Simpson Healey, widow of the late Robert Healey, at her residence near Stiltsville on Monday, March 5th, in her 81st year. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. John Massy of Munster, eight years ago, and Mrs. George Healey, of North Dakota, barely a month ago.
Since her marriage to Robert Healey in 1871, the late Mrs. Healey resided on the 7th line of Goulburn. She was a staunch member and supporter of the United church of Mansfield.
She was born at Ashton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Simpson, both highly respected residents of that district. Since the decease of her husband ten years ago she had been living with her grandson, Harold McCoy.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank McCoy; two sons-in-law. Mr. Frank McCoy, Stittsvllle, and John McCoy, of Franktown; and nine grandchildren. Mrs. Elwin Hobbs, of Harold, Alfred, Orval and Norman of Stittsville and Mr. Willie McCoy of Newark. N J.
She also leaves behind six great grandchildren. Beatrice and Bert Kenny of Stittsvllle. Clarence and Blanche Hobbs of Munster. and Irene and Ivan Seabrooke of Smiths Falls.
The funeral was held from the late residence of the deceased at one o'clock on Wednesday, March 7th. at Stittsvllle United church. The service was conducted by Rev. J. C. Eastcotte, assisted by Rev. T. Meredith of Ashton United church, former pastor of the Richmond circuit.
After the service was completed Interment took place in the family plot in the United church cemetery at Stittsvllle.

Harvey Cathcart Simpson (1862-1928)

Grain dealer, MLA (1908-1910), MLA (1911-1914).

Born at Ashton, Ontario on 11 February 1862, son of Robert Simpson and Frances Cathcart, brother of R. M. Simpson and J. C. Simpson, he was educated at Ashton and Carlton Place, Ontario. He came to Manitoba with his parents in the early 1880s. For a few years he was in the newspaper business then, in 1885, he moved to Virden where he resided for 40 years. There he engaged in the real estate and grain business and, for a number of years, was a member of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange.

He was first elected to the Manitoba Legislature for Virden in a by-election held in January 1909, necessitated by the death of J. H. Agnew. Simpson served two terms, being re-elected in 1910 but defeated in 1914. During the First World War, he served overseas as a Captain in the 184th Battalion. On 31 May 1892, he married Rhodella Armstrong Irwin. They had four children: Fred Irwin Simpson (1893-1917), Edith Francis Simpson (1895-?), Olive Mary Simpson (1897-?), and Harriet Mills Simpson (1902-?). Sourdough's Last Wish
Dies With His Clothes On
Declaring that he was going to die with his clothes on, Herbert Simpson, aged 76, a former Yukon prospector and ex-serviceman, fulfilled his last resolution on Saturday.
Mr. Simpson, who resided at 240 Twelfth avenue west, had been ill for some time and, despite encouragement offered by his physician, said he knew he was going to die and for the previous four days had lain in bed clad in his shirt, socks, trousers and sweater.
Born in Ontario, he spent many years placer mining in the Yukon, and was one of the countless prospectors who took part in the Klondike gold rush in 1898.
At the outbreak of war in 1914 he travelled to Winnipeg and joined the P.P.C.L.I., with which he served for the duration of the war. Following the war he came to Calgary and had resided here until the time of his death.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. R. M. Simpson of Winnipeg.

A resident of Ottawa since 1925, Mrs. Catherine M. Healey, widow of William Healey, died on Thursday following a short illness, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Duncan McLeod, Douglas, Ont. She was in her 76th year.

Born in Munster, Ont., she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Graham. Following her marriage, she moved with her husband to Stittsville, Ont., where they resided until Mr. Healey's death in 1925. While in Ottawa she attended the Metropolitan Tabernacle.

Surviving besides Mrs. McLeod, are two other daughters, Mrs. Frank Faulkner, of Ottawa and Mrs. W. James McCaffrey, Stittsville; two sons, Sydney Healey, of Pembroke and J.S. Healey, Ottawa; one sister, Mrs. Ian Healey, of Stittsville, and three brothers, James, Josh and Milton, all of Stittsville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The body is resting at Hulse and Playfair, Limited, until Sunday, when the funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, at two o'clock, in the Metropolitan Tabernacle. Interment will be in Stanley's Corners cemetery.

Stricken with a heart attack while letting some cattle out to pasture on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 14, Robert M. Simpson of Atchelitz passed away shortly after he went indoors to rest. Born at Ashton, Ontario, 63 years ago, the late Mr. Simpson came to the Fraser Valley twenty - five years ago and had been a well known and respected citizen of the district since that time. Prior to coming here he resided in Winnipeg.
Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. F. Toop and Roberta Simpson, South Su - mas; Mrs. J. Hogg, Sumas; Mrs. George Bradwell, South Sumas, and Mrs. Harold Bradwell, Radium Hot Springs; and four sons, Cecil of Rosedale, and William, Joshua and Wesley of South Sumas.
Mrs.. Simpson was in the south at the time of her husband's passing, the funeral arrangements were held over till her arrival. The funeral took place Wednesday from chilliwack United Church, with interment in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.

Mrs. Bleeks was crossing Portage ave. when she apparently slipped and fell In the pathway of an auto driven by Thomas Keeler, of Newman ave. Taken to the hospital, it was found she had sustained a possible fracture of the skull, possible fracture of one or more ribs, cuts, bruises and shock. She died, without regaining consciousness.

Mrs. Bleeks, who was born at Ashton, Ont., is survived by her husband and two sons, Dr. Cherry Bleeks and Claude Bleeks, both of Winnipeg. She also is survived by three sisters and three brothers: Misses Pearl and Maude Simpson. of Ottawa; Mrs. H. Shelington, of Grayburn. Sask.; Robert Simpson, New Westminster. Juneau opened its first hospital when the Sisters of Saint Ann decided to expand their mission to Alaska. The Sisters arrived in Juneau on September 11, 1886. The Sisters operated St. Ann's Hospital in Juneau until March 1968 when they leased the building to the City and Borough of Juneau for $100 per year. At that time a new site was required to build a replacement hospital. In 1965 The Borough of Juneau appointed a Greater Juneau Borough Hospital Planning Committee. The new hospital , Bartlett Regional Hospital, opened its doors on August 19, 1971.
Dr. James K. Simpson, 25, graduate of the medical school in the University of Minnesota, joins Dr. H.S. Wyman in attending patients at the hospital.

Mrs Wm J. Duncan
A highly respected resident of Ramsay, Mrs William J. Duncan, passed away suddenly on Monday morning, July 15th, at the age of 65 years. Mrs Duncan had been in apparent good health and her death came as a great shock to the whole community. Deceased, whose maiden name was Mina Simpson, was the daughter of the late Joshua Simpson and Eliza Kidd of Goulbourn and had lived in Ramsay since her marriage. Left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother are her husband, Wm J. Duncan and two sons James of Ashton and Robert at home. Two sisters, Mrs Powers of Weyburn, Sask., Mrs W. Cram of Carleton Place and two brothers, Mr John Kidd Simpson and Mr Clayton Simpson, both of Ashton and Mr Rolland Simpson of Winnipeg, also survive. A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral on Wednesday July 17th. Rev C.D. McLellan of Bethany United church of which deceased was a faithful member, conducted the services at the home and the grave. Interment was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. the pallbearers were to sons, James and Robert, two nephews, Ormand and James Simpson and Allan and Morden Duncan. Numerous beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. A kindly charitable woman a good neighbour and friend, Mrs Duncan will be greatly missed in the community.

The funeral of Robbie, second son of Mr. and Mrs. George P. Sanderson, took place on Thursday afternoon to the Edmonton cemetery, and was largely attended. Service was held at the residence of the bereaved parents by Rev. Mr. Adamson, who also conducted the service at the grave. Death was caused by a gun shot wound accidentally inflicted on Monday while the deceased was out coyote shooting at the Sturgeon. In trying to strike a squirrel which was in a tree with the stock of the rifle the weapon was discharged. The deceased was brought in to the residence of his parents, where he died on Wednesday morning. He was a bright boy, twelve years of age. His parents and friends have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.

Pearl Edith fJF Menholm Rd., Chilliwack, passed away April 14, 1988 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 92. Born Sept. 29, 1895 at Winnipeg, Man., she lived in the Chilliwack area for 80 years. toop She was a housewife at home. She was a member of Sumas United Church and superintendent of its Sunday School. She produced many Christmas concerts. She enjoyed entertaining many groups with her comic recitations. With the Ruth Rebekah Lodge 7, she was a Past Noble Grand and financial secretary as well as a life member. For many years, she was a member of the Willing Workers Group of the Chilliwack United Church.
Funeral service was held April 18 from the chapel of Henderson's Funeral Home with Rev. Reg Brown officiating. Interment was at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Robert Edwards, Ronald Edwards, Harley Edwards, Bruce Morrison, John Anderson, and David Brooks.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Evelyn and Roy Edwards of Sardis, Ethel and Robert Anderson of Victoria, Edna annd Lloyd Brooks of Victoria; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Edgar and Muriel Toop of St. Albert, Alta.; 15 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; sisters Emily Hogg of White Rock, Lillian Bradwell of Chilliwack, Roberta Wilson of Hope; and by her brother Wesley Simpson of Sardis.
