?b?Mrs. Sarah Jane Kidd?/b?, widow of the late John Hodgins of Hazeldean, mother of Ms. Young of Kent street, aunt of Mr. Geo. Kidd, and cousin of Mr. T. Hodgins, died suddenly at her daughter's residence on Saturday evening. The deceased, who sustained three strokes of paralysis some eighteen months ago, complained while visiting her daughter of pain in her head, and died before Dr. Potter, her medical attendant, could be summoned.
Her remains were removed to the residence of her son, Mr. J. J. Hodgins, of Hazeldean, whence the funeral took place this afternoon. Deceased was highly esteemed throughout the country, and leaves two sons and three daughters to mourn her loss.

THOMAS A. KIDD
Mr. Kidd is the son of William Kidd, a wealthy farmer of Marlborough. Thomas was born December 14, 1845, and married, January 29th, 1875, Esther Ennis, daughter of James Ennis, of Ennisville, by whom he has had one child, Edith Eveline.

Mr. Kidd became a clerk in 1866, and in 1871 bought out the mercantile business of John Meikle, at Burritts Rapids, where he carries on an extensive general store.

In 1878, he was elected Reeve of Oxford.

Joining the militia in 1864, he secured a second class military certificate, and became Lieutenant of No. 3 Company, 56th Battalion, in 1868.

THOMAS A. KIDD

Edward Kidd (September 9, 1849 '96 September 16, 1912) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Carleton in the Canadian House of Commons from 1900 to 1905 and 1909 to 1912 as a Conservative member.

He was born in Oxford Township, Canada West, the son of William Kidd, and was educated in Burritt's Rapids. Kidd served on the council for North Gower Township and for Carleton County. He owned a number of cheese factories in Carleton County. He resigned his seat in 1905 to allow Robert Borden, the party leader, to sit in the house. Kidd died in office in 1912.

His son Thomas Ashmore Kidd later served as speaker for the Ontario legislature. <- does not match Thomas Kidd's marriage certificate

George Nelson Kidd (October 1, 1864 ? February 9, 1907) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Carleton in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1894 to 1907 as a Conservative-Patrons of Industry, then Independent Conservative and finally as a Conservative member.

He was born in Carp, Canada West, the son of Richard Kidd, an Irish immigrant, and educated at Carp and in Kingston. Kidd served as reeve of Huntley Township from 1889 to 1894. He was also president for the Huntley Agricultural Fair. Kidd married Esther Alvira Young.

Mrs. Thomas Hodgins?/b? passed peacefully away about 1 o'clock on Tueesday afternoon, About two weeks ago she had a stroke of paralysis which caused unconsciousness most of the time since. All that medical skill and careful nursing could do was to no avail. On Saturday, however, she improved wonderfully and had regained consciousness, but after a second stroke on Monday she became weaker, lapsing into unconsciousness and slept away, apparently without pain or ache, until until her spirit took its flight.
Deceased's maiden name was Sophia A. Hodgins, she was born at Hazeldean and was in her 64th. year. The family retired from farming and came to Carp to reside. Mr Hodgins predeceased her by about 15 years. The children who survive are Mr. Herbert Hodgins, Mrs. E. Scharf and Mrs. A. H. McIver, all of this place. Two sisters and one brother also survive namely, Mrs. Adam Hodgins, of this place, Mrs. J. J. Young and Mr. J. J. Hodgins of Ottawa. The late W. A. Hodgins, member of parliment for Carleton county, was also a brother.
The funeral will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. to the Christ Church and cemetery, third line of Huntley.

William Thomas Hodgins (February 27, 1857 ? December 3, 1909) was a farmer and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Carleton in the Canadian House of Commons from 1891 to 1900 as a Conservative member.[1]

He was born in Goulbourn Township, Canada West,[1] the son of John Hodgins and Sarah Jane Kidd.[2] His grandfather William Hodgins, an Irish immigrant, was one of the first settlers in Carleton County.[3] Hodgins served as a member of the municipal council for Goulbourn township in 1888.[1] He died in Goulbourn township at the age of 52.[2]

Thomas Ashmore Kidd

Thomas Ashmore Kidd (May 1, 1889 ? December 19, 1973) was speaker of the Legislature of Ontario in 1930-1934 and served as Conservative MLA for Kingston from 1926 to 1940 and Progressive Conservative MP for Kingston City from 1945 to 1949.

He was born in Burritt's Rapids, Ontario, the son of Edward Kidd, and was educated there and in Kemptville. Kidd was a manufacturer and wholesale merchant. He served in France with the Royal Regiment of Canada in 1915 and was wounded at Ypres. In 1920, he married Eva Richardson, the daughter of the late senator Henry Westman Richardson. Kidd was a member of Kingston city council from 1922 to 1926 and also served on the Kingston Board of Works. He won the Conservative nomination in Kingston after the incumbent Conservative, William Folger Nickle, resigned from the cabinet of Howard Ferguson in order to protest the government's decision to run for re-election on the platform of repealing the Ontario Temperance Act and allowing government controlled liquor sales. Kidd defeated Nickle who ran as a Prohibitionist candidate in the 1926 provincial election.

Kidd was re-elected in the 1929 provincial election and served as Speaker of the Ontario Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1934.

He resigned from the provincial legislature to run unsuccessfully for the Canadian House of Commons in the 1940 federal election but won on his second attempt in 1945. Kidd was defeated in bid for re-election in 1949 and again when he tried to return to politics in 1957. Kidd was also a Grand Master in the Orange Lodge.

Florence Gardiner

Florence Marion Gardiner, Carleton Place, died in Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, Tuesday, October 3, 1978 after a short illness in her 80th year. Born May 27,1899 in Beckwith Township, Mrs. Gardiner was a daughter of the late Francis A. Bennett and his wife, Florence E. Kidd. She was educated in Beckwith Township, Carleton Place High School, and Toronto Teachers' College. Mrs. Bennett's marriage to the late W. Oliver Gardiner took place June 11, 1924 in St. James' Anglican Church, Franktown. A retired school teacher, Mrs. Gardiner lived all her life in Carleton Place and district. She was a member of St. John's Anglican, Innisville and the Anglican Church Women. (ACW). She was also a member of Innisville Women's Institute. Mrs. Gardiner is survived by two daughters, Saidee, (Mrs. Ken Dowdall), George, Ontario and Thelma (Mrs. Mel Dowdall), Carleton Place. She is also survived by two sons, T. Francis Gardiner , Galetta, and Kenneth E.G. Gardiner, R. R. # 1, Carleton Place. As well as her sister, Alice (Mrs. E. P. Robertson), R. R. # 6, Perth. Mrs. Gardiner is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Gertrude (Mrs. J. M. Sheil) and one brother, Harold Bennett. The funeral took place from the Barker Funeral Home, Carleton Place to St. John's Church, Innisville for service Friday, October 6, 1978 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roger Young officiating. Interment took place in St. John's cemetery. Pallbearers were John Sheil, Howard Bennett, Eric Robertson, Arnold Jackson, Clifford Gardiner and Thomas Gardiner.

Berkley Kidd of 305 Second avenue, died yesterday in the Ottawa Civic Hospital In his 45th year. . ' ' . Mr. Kidd had been In failing health for some time but word of -his death will be received with regret by the many friends and. acquaintances who admired his nesting personality. A saxophone player of repute, Berkley Kidd was organizer and leader of one of the best known and popular dance orchestras in Ottawa during the past 20 years, playing for many seasons at Lakeside Gardens and the. Chateau . Lsurier. K won himself a wide circle of friends in aU walks of life and, despite his busy career, maintained an ardent interest in sports and other activities. Mr. Kidd was a valued employs of the audit department, of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for a number ot years prior to his death.

A son of the late William John Kidd, K.C former magistrate of Ottawa, and Mrs. Kidd. Berkley Kidd was born in Ottawa. He was educated at Lisgar Collegiate and St. Andrew's College la Toronto. He attended St. James United Church and was a former member of McLeod Streejt United Church. . He married the former Winnl-fred Matheson of Ottawa, who survivesAlso surviving are, one son. . Leading Seaman Berkley Kidd. of Comox, B.C.; one daugh- ter. Barbara Kidd. at home; and two brothers, Melbey Kidd. Alta-' dens, California; and Nelson Kidd, , with the Metropolitan Life In-; sura nee Company. Ottawa. The body is' resting at Hulse and Playfair. -Limited, 31S Mc-Leod street, where Rev. J. Mrs. Ephraim Scharfe, of Carp, passed away this morning after a long illness, at the home of her sister, Mrs. A.H. McIver, 59 Grosvenor Avenue. She had been ailing since becoming a victim to the influenza about three years ago, and came to Ottawa several weeks ago when physicians in Carp despaired of saving her.
She was in her 43rd year, and was a native of Carp, where she was very well known and held in high esteem. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Hodgins.
She is survived by her husband and one son, Pitman and four daughters, the Misses Mildred, Thelma, Kathleen and Estelle, all at home.
The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, to Beechwood cemetery. Rev. M.E. Brownlee, of Manotick, formerly of Carp, will perform the services at the home.

STEWART, Joan Elizabeth (Bachelor of Science in Home Economics) (Nee Hamilton) Suddenly, as the result of a severe stroke on Thursday, December 9th 2010 at the age of 83, Joan Elizabeth Stewart died at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, surrounded by her much loved husband Francis Alvin Stewart, daughter Frances Elizabeth, sons James Hamilton (Suzanne), Ian Robert, Paul Russell (Darlene). Loving grandmother of Sarah, Stewart, Matthew, Andrew, Amelia, Hilary, Cameron, Blair, Elizabeth, Graeme, Quinn and the late Thomas. She will be sadly missed by her brother Dr. John Richard Hamilton C.M. (Patricia) and sister-in-law Dorothy Mabel Stewart and lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and members of the business community. She was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, the daughter of the late Dr. John Russell Hamilton and his wife Muriel Sarah Kidd. There were three crew members, as well as three passengers aboard the Hudson, and all six servicemen perished in the aircraft accident. Though a military search was immediately launched, the crash site was not located until 6 Nov 1944.

Peacefully at the Carleton Place Hospital on Thursday, February 14, 2013, with his family by his side, at the age of 79.

Loving husband of Irene for 56 years. Dear father of Randy (Helen), Dave (Kim), Barbara (Earle Robertson) and Dale (Kimberley Madejchuk). Proud grandfather of Lisa, Rebecca, Tracy, Sarah, Ashley, Shanelle, Damon, Evan and Tiernan. Great-grandfather of Karenna-Marie. Predeceased by his sisters Evelyn Campbell, Doris Nolan and Mildred Conlon and his brother Harold. Survived by his sister-in-law Norah Currie and many nieces and nephews.

Peacefully at the Carleton Place Hospital on Friday September 9, 2016, in his 99th year.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Doris (Coleman) and best friend Verna Ryder. Loving father of Gail (Mervyn Downey) of Pakenham. Dear grandfather of Stephen (Carol) Downey and Lori (Doug Racz). Great-grandpa to Spencer, Gracie, Jonathan Downey and Marc and Meagan Racz. Survived by his sisters Linda (late Jack Soward), Ida (late Clare Johnson) and sister-in-law Joan (late Keith Sheil). John was predeceased by brothers York and Keith Sheil and sisters Florence Barclay and Olive Topps, half-brothers Percy and Owen, and half-sisters Marjorie Curtis and Maude Scott.
Friends may visit the family at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, on Sunday September 11, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service Monday in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at United Cemeteries.
For those who wish, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Down Syndrome Association, National Capital Region, would be appreciated by the family.
