Funeral Of Mrs Jessie Chisholm Held On Tuesday Afternoon
Following a week's illness, the death occurred at her home on Union Street, Sunday morning, Nov 30th of Mrs Jessie Chisholm. She was in her 76th year and had lived all her life in Almonte. Mr Chisholm was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Cameron. Her father was a well-known contractor, here, and built some of the town's important buildings. She received her primary education in the public and high schools after which she attended Queen's University where she graduated in 1897 with the degree of B.A. In 1898 she married Roderick Chisholm of Almonte who predeceased her in 1919. For 20 years ? from 1919 to 1939 ? she was a member of the teaching staff of the local high school. She specialized in languages and history and was a most successful and popular teacher. The late Mrs Chisholm attended Bethany United Church, was a member of the local branch of the Women's Institute and active in Red Cross work during the war and in other activities calculated to further community welfare. She served on the library board for a long time and her training as a teacher was valuable in that connection. She leaves four sons and one daughter, Alex, of Flint, Michigan; Robt of Montreal; Donald and John of Ottawa; and Jean of Montreal. Three sisters also survive, Misses Elizabeth and Mary Cameron of Victoria, B.C., and Mrs H. MacNeil of Kississing, Man., also four grandchildren, all of Ottawa. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Comba Funeral Home to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Service were conducted by the Rev H.C. Wolfraim of Bethany United Church assisted by Rev Wm Aird of the Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Messrs Peter Young, George Etherington, P.A. Greig, W.C. Pollock, W.F. Thom and J.H. Martin. Among the floral offerings were pieces from the Board of Education, the Library Board, the W.M.S. of Bethany Church, the Bell Telephone Co., Ottawa and National Defence Headquarters of Ottawa. Mrs Chisholm was a popular member of the community having taught many people living here or in distant places. Her death was a great shock to her friends as she had been ill only a few days.

Jessie married Roderick Chrisholm in 1899. Roderick was born on 28 Jul 1864 in Kirkhill, Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died on 24 Aug 1919 in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried on 27 Aug 1919 in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Ramsay, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
